I keep getting really unbalanced teams in BF3, where at the end of the round the ticket count is like 0 vs. 254 or something...

 

I think that's still one of the issues with BF3 that they didn't consider fixing from BC2, not only team balancing but rank balancing. Often times it's the team with the most rank 40s and 30s that win.

 

Yeah, that is an issue. They just make sure there's equal number of bodies on each side. I think side balancing should be more complicated than that, even more than just rank balancing. Stats balancing of some sort. You can rank pretty high even if you're really bad (just look at my stats).

I actually play much better when I go solo than with a team. The game just encourages it. Sure you can do well if you have a really good team, but the game itself doesn't promote it in any way, shape or form really.

 

The balancing system is terrible too for splitting up friends/people who joined in a party, and it doesn't even do its job of making sure there are an equal amount of players most of the time. So many times I've joined with one or two other people in a party (like shobster and deagleson) and on servers with autobalance enabled, we can only manage to stay together for a game or so before the server decides to split us up. And then one of us is placed on the other team, which is missing 4 people...

I wish there was a way to coordinate entire platoons, like an advanced party system. As it stands right now the platoon is a nice little database for NBR to friend each other, but beyond that it doesn't offer much functionality. I'd like to be able to have people setup events or set up parties without having everyone invited on their friends list, it would go a long way to solve the lack of teamplay I think. For example my friends list says there are 6 people on 5 different servers, in 3 different parties, but we're all NBR. There needs to be a way to get everyone together without the friends list, especially now that we have our own server.

 

The bug that's bothering me is:
Battlelog makes me launch campaign when I want to play multiplayer.

So when are we taking advantage of this server? Anyone up for a game tonight?

 

It IS ridiculousness. I expected them to fix that sort of balance issue which was SO PREVALENT in BF2 and BC2 but no, it's still in BF3. It's a total buzzkill of a gameplay experience when your team keeps getting steamrolled round after round and it seems to be happening on whichever server you try.

 

Do you guys get disappearing crosshairs?

Every time I shoot during pull out, I don't get a crosshair.

Also, do squad specialty perks stack? ... not same one stack up but in other that just passively active for everyone who doesn't have it on yet.

I had that happen to me often during beta and pressing Esc usually brought it back. As for Squad Perks, I'm curious about that too.

 

I didn't realize this until after I maxed out my helicopter upgrades but if you want to level up in another way, you can find "training" servers with low people on it and start capping with your vehicle. All scores earned while in a vehicle (capping) will go towards your vehicle upgrades (make sure you are in a vehicle while neutralizing/capturing).

I don't know if this counts as "stats padding" though but it was pretty funny to see choppers and tanks moving between capture points ignoring everyone ^^

Also, in case you haven't already noticed, the F2000 seems like a ty gun right? Well add a grip and it's pretty darn good. Add a silencer and infrared sight and it's almost on the verge of overpowered in close/mid range combat. I usually go with iron sights though but this gun will get nerfed soon.

 

Had some good times tonight with 4 or 5 of us on, with all of us in mumble. Games we got into we pretty much dominated, it'd be crazy with more people... we started with just shobster and myself and by the end of about 5 hours we had 5 of us.

Need more of you guys actually playing at the same time

 

Anyone else having trouble with Origin, and thus BF3? I click the icon to launch Origin and there's a few seconds of hard drive activity but it does not launch. This just started happening and I'm not aware of any system changes I could have done to cause it. I was playing the game last night, and I haven't updated or messed with anything, yet when I try to run it tonight, nothing.

Launching Origin.exe directly has the same result, it does not launch. Can I uninstall/reinstall without losing all my games?

Hmm, i cant say i experienced that.
Since i got both Origin and BF3 on my Intel 510 SSD its pretty much instant, and after my bios upgrade i dont get SSD freezing anymore either.

But take a backup of your BF3 folder just incase.
You can restore Origin games by using the intaller in the install folder Origin makes in the game it downloads.

 

I downloaded and re-installed Origin over my existing install, seems to be working so far. What's interesting is that my laptop refused to run it but my desktop did it just fine.

 

I had an issue yesterday where Origin would start but then quit right away. Weird. So I would just go to battlelog and start a game from there, it would launch origin when I launched the game and it worked fine then.

 

The rubber banding on some servers makes the vehicles unusable.

 

No anti-armor weaponry? Simple. Banzai charge tank and wait for operator to bail as he thinks you're planting C4, if he doesn't get out climb atop his talk and start walking and shoot at it. He'll get annoyed, get out and you take the tank!

I only die in a chopper in 2 ways.
1. Bad landing.
2. A jet rams into me and causes me to crash upside down.

PC sales last. Xbox 360 #1 and PS3 #2. Though Origin has not released digital sales numbers...

If you read more, it sounds like PC may have soldl the most with 5.5 Million sales as the figures only show for 5 million when EA claims they shipped 10 million copies.
- This is very confusing since EA has said they have "SHIPPED" not "SOLD" 10 million.

That's 50% of what Activision probably expects MW3 to sell.

Interesting though, earlier Gamestop claimed that BF3 outsold MW3 in pre-orders. Might be a sign that MW3 sales won't be what the analysts are claiming it will be.

 

I think part of the problem for activision is that a lot of BF3 sales not only fund their competitor, but mark a sale they won't be getting. I'm not sure what percentage of people will end up not buying MW3 because of BF3, when they otherwise would have bought MW3. That's the really interesting number.

 

Mortars are cheating.

Thankfully I have them unlocked and I use them every chance I get.

I can promise you this will be the first thing "nerfed" in the balance patch that DICE releases. This weapon is a zero-risk, massive reward weapon. On a 64 player map you can go insane with this gadget, all from your uncapped spawn (out of bounds for the opposing team). It has a very good range on the thing, a reload of about 4-5 seconds, and does a massive amount of damage.

The only downside is that you're not helping your team very much (you'll have your occasional streaks).

I submit my proof. Exibit A!

What class gets that? Sorry, I've only played Recon and a small amount of Engineer so far.

 

Support Class gets the mortar.

 

Managed to get a few 730m headshots the other day. And then decided to work up my support score. The Auto Shottie + frag rounds = holycarpexplosionsofdoom.

 

That's a nice Mortar kill feed. I'm really unlucky with the mortar though, it seems like whenever I play mortar, only thing I have to do is kill other mortar dude before he kills me, and then relocate, wait for him to fire a shot and then shoot, relocate, rinse and repeat.

But smoke rounds with mortars really assist your team in Rush I've noticed.

 

I hate mortars coz it's so boring. I have way more fun with the SOFLAM, the MAV, and the EOD bot..

I've seen noobs setting up their mortars in the restricted areas on map, I just run in, killed them and run back out within the 10 seconds limit, again and again..

 

Awesome video maksin. I'll have to use the EOD bot more, lol. Every time I've used it though it gets slaughtered pretty quickly, but I guess I just have to use it more.

Also if anyone is looking for some good stress-free fun, visit the battlelog BF3 forums, lol. It's good entertainment to read all the crap there. I'll interject on occasion, but usually just reading it for the general stupidity of the users. The unfortunate thing is there's very little there that's actually productive for EA/DICE to build off of except for the sticky posts.

 

Just found out my next "Goal" for BF3. I want to do what this guy did!

Infiltrated the enemies carrier and took over the AA cannon. Apparently it's indestructible and still in bounds.

I love that thing. I try to help my team, but it's up to them to take advantage of it. There should be a condition that it's unusable in uncap unless your team is cornered which is usually the case on Tehran Highway or Seine Crossing. Besides, anyone with common sense will attempt to go into enemy spawn and kill the mortars or bust out their own. If you're in their range, then you will be too when you mortar them back.

All high profile games have hackers. Best we can hope for is getting the bulk of them banned if punkbuster stays on their game.

There was definitely a big ban wave a few days ago. I watched quite a few people get banned by punkbuster

 

I'm not sure how it's fun to be a no talent cheating scrub.

I mean, I'm a no talent scrub, but at least I take my lumps like a man.

I'm having a lot more fun playing now that I have a proper mousing surface. The difference between the tracking on a leather armchair and my Razer Kabuto is like night and day .

 

I read on kotaku that there is a points exploit for engineers on HC servers. You can apparently do endless damage and repair with them on empty vehicles with a friend.

 

Damn all cheaters! I earn my rank the hard way. Also, carrier spawn raping does not sound like fun for the other team. If anything it's only going to make them rage.

 

About the mortar ?

Does it always hit the target you specified?
On some maps, I still managed to get kills on the target even I hit a building in front of me or hit under the bridge part of the way, almost killing myself in the process.

One thing I'm not a huge fan of is the context sensitive bipod. It's nice sometimes, but if I'm going iron sights to snap off a couple shots for a kill, the last thing I need is a delay and repositioning. The stability is nice, but I wish there was a key to activate it.

I've did something similar once. Hakira said there was an open passenger seat in the attack chopper and I was in a transport chopper. He was below me so I bailed out and hit E at the right time and presto! In the chopper. I never felt more cool during that day.

Not always, but it might feel like it if you're frequently killing guys behind cover or just don't reposition.

 

I don't understand how this can be 365 pages long and yet there are so few people on the NBR mumble for BF3.

 

Depends on what times you're asking. Some people have work or school in the evenings. In my case, though, I have some cramming to do and this time only happens to be just browsing on some sites, but not really much play time.

 

I frequently can't get on mumble in the evening because my kids are sleeping and my voice will wake them up.

edit: WTH EA? Something FUBAR'd my BF3 install. It keeps saying ready to install now, I click it, it goes through some crap, a screen pops up then disappears super fast that I can't see what it is, it throws a blank BF3 icon on my desktop then just sits there. No way to repair install, no way to check for updates. It's like it's downloaded but not installed. Gotta delete and redownload everything again. Way to go EA. Good job...
