Battlefield 3 Discussion Thread

Unlocked CITV station today, was overjoyed.

Realized none of my friends or other tank drivers had Guided Shell unlocked. Made me feel like an idiot.

Anyway I feel that Reactive Armor is really good, especially since it resets if you just exit / enter switch with another person so it resets once it's used up. I can't really decide though if I want Thermal Vision or Zoom Optics... I mean Zoom Optics is really nice for the longer range shots and adjusting your aim, but Thermal is Thermal... hmmm...

 

Yeah the lockon for the CITV is really underwhelming, I like the part where you get your own private 3rd seat in the tank though

Reactive armor is excellent, I switch between that and local radar and always use IR vision. I don't have a problem with long range shots because all I ever did in BC2 was lob tank shots at helicopters, got really good at it too.

Even if you don't have a mic/don't want to talk/don't want to hear other people(??) you guys should really be on deagleson's mumble server when you are looking for folks to play with. Just sit in the the BF3 channel with yourself muted... it really helps coordinate things between us.

 

What's mumble? By the way I'm EU so if I play on US servers I'll prolly lag not sure might give it a shot.

CITV station with Guided Shell is a solid 1 shot vs helicopters, too bad range of the CITV laser i pretty (vs air).

By the way have you tried the Canister Shell? It's beast vs inf and light armored vehicles. Feels sooo good shooting infantry with it. I think the Coaxial HMG is better though but shooting thousands of tungsten balls at infantry... Just makes it worth it.

All i need to do now is level up my IFV, then I'll have all the vehicle unlocks and can start to enjoy the game.

Forgot to add, is it only me but don't you think the targeting/lock on range for Scout Heli / Attack Heli heat seekers is a bit long (relative to the map size). I mean it's silly how these helicopter vs helicopter standoffs high up in the sky spamming heat seekers on each other while barely seeing what they're engaging.

 

Mumble

Mumble and Murmur (server) is a Voice communication program similar to Ventrilo (Horrid), TeamSpeak (Managable) and Skype (Bandwidth hungry).
Mumble is open source, well supported and with its voice server can even run on routers like D-Link with Open-WRT + uMurmur.
uMurmur is a special build of Murmur that uses less ram.

 

I hadn't used Mumble previously because I was usually playing in my living room and people were watching TV. Now that I play in my bedroom, I have more privacy and I won't be pissing off my family.

 

Aww too bad. I had some fun playing with megabyte and HighRollerz on their server last night. The dudes are all just as sane and amicable as they were in BC2. They got some dudes who call themselves Global Aliens play on their server as well.

Both clans have their own 32 man hardcore servers, low ping.

 

The stationary TOW launchers are more fun than I previously thought. I killed a helicopter with one last night.

 

Holy cow, what's with all the empty servers? Are there THAT many people abandoning BF3 for MW3?

 

Maybe people returning to work after taking some time off for the release?

BTW you need to unlock co-op? I do. I'm online at night if you want to do those.

 

Yeah, I noticed the empty servers too. I thought it was a problem with battlelog or something.

 

It must be some issue with battlelog. My browser says there are only like 3 full servers, but for some reason battlelog doesn't work properly for me; it NEVER displays all of the servers properly. If I search for them specifically they show up, but not in the general browser even with no filters. I have posted this issue in the forums, but no one has responded which makes me think I am the only one with this issue...

I do too. Except when friendlies constantly wave it around, it gets annoying. And if you have two guys coming at you with them on, you can't see crap.

Nice, I can finally remove the IRNV scope ... basically that scope became useless once that tac light nerf comes in.

 

Interesting... Press and hold CTRL-ALT-S in game will give you your connection, ping, and fps info.

 

I'm not trying to complain. But I wish they would have made it easier in the first place to just have it appear on the scoreboard rather than some keybind combinations.

Plus pressing Ctrl-Alt-S will make you walk backwards while you check it, lol.

It just doesn't feel right.

 

Meh, sounds about right to me. BF3 imo is a better game but less polished while MW3 is a worse game but better polished, so it balances out.

 

If you check the comments on all the major game review websites you will see that the players don't agree. Activision just paid off the reviewers to give their stale game glowing reviews...

BF3 is pretty buggy though...

 

I had this issue after updating the game with the first patch. This is what solved it for me:

1) Exit Origin
2) Go into the BF3 directory
3) Delete "_Install" directory (this should be about 113mb)
4) Restart Origin and complete the download

Should install correctly after the 113 or s mbs are downloaded.

That's horrible and should be removed from the game. Fun for maybe a single player campaign, but for mulitplayer, just stupid IMO.

That player is a loser, shoots at everything, lucky he's on a no FF server. He's one of the morons when you do get on a hardcore server and you die more times from team-kill than from enemy fire. That weapon in a hardcore server... should be a bannable offense. I die enough from random grenades and rocket team kills as it is.

I'll recommend on a server I play on often, explosive round = automatic kick since it's a server with FF on.

Watch his other videos. He's such a loser, he plays on no FF servers and just shoots everything in sight.
- You can see him shoot players with trigger down hard, even though they are on his own team for 3 seconds. He doesn't care at all.
- No precision shooting from this guy. Luckily BF3 barely has any kickback on any of the guns.

 

Have to agree on this.
Personally i love playing on servers with FF on (Keeps most of the n00bs away), and if 3D spot + Killcams are gone too thats just a bonus for me.

I have learned to keep my calm and identify the target before shooting, since i mostly twitch fired before and that results in pissed off teammates.

What have they changed on the server side? The last few days hit detection has been atrocious. Most of the time I get the jump on someone, get a few good bursts into them, then they let rip with a couple bullets and I'm dead. Almost every damn time now. It's frustrating.

 

Yea I noticed this to I'm in a server with 40 ping and it feels like I'm on dialup Seems like its way worse than last week I dunno

 

The ironic thing there's significantly fewer people online than a week or so ago now.

 

Heh we knew it was coming with MW3 out, people will be jumping onto the next new thing over the next month, be it MW3 or skyrim or whatever. There are still a ton of players on that aren't buying MW3 (like me), and I expect that when they release a patch people will flock back.

As for the weird hit stuff I haven't really seen much of that, aside from the odd server being completely lagged. My guess is that EA's little stealth rubberband fix was less of a 'fix' and more of a bandaid... the underlying problem is still there.
