Battlefield 3 Discussion Thread

I just played the most organized, cleanest game of Battlefield. Full 64-player. Chain of Command. It. Was. Epic.

 

I still feel there needs to be a commander position. More mature players and organized groups would help. Among other communication issues, what I hate is that you have no way of knowing who is attacking / defending which points. So you end up with everyone either helter-skelter or all converging on the same point. At a minimum show on the map or HUD what each squad leader's command is, so when I look at point B I see one, two, three, four whatever tick marks next to it so I know one, two, three, or four other squads have tagged that spot.

 

Wow, the nerf on the mav made it seriously fragile in hc mode. Just deploying it on the ground without taking off right away would destroy it.

 

So no more MAV riding? I like that.

 

I tried the MW3 free weekend and I must say it was one of the bad experience.
People yelling and cursing each other so loud, boring maps and other stuff.
I died many times shooting above head as I was trying to cover recoil and gravity . And I disliked the second right click to release the scope.
I am glad I bought Battlefield.

 

i don't really get what was so bad about mav riding? only thing i could find from looking online is that snipers use it to get into higher places and camp/snipe for the round, and this can be done easily using the spawn beacon. that nerf just sounds pointless.
u can't really fix the "players" that like to camp.

 

I'm sure its something very easy but I don't understand how people deploy into using a parachute during Team Deathmatch. For instance, I see people parachuting in on the Noshar Canals map in order to get on top of the crane.

 

Not really mav riding, more like trying to temp place while i got run off and hide in a bush.

They havent nerf the riding part yet.

About the parachute ... it cause you always spawn facing north.

 

I was playing BFBC2 online and I was getting a little used to it. But how do you win the match? All I do is I help take cover all the sites like the Alpha, bravo, Charlie sites and after that I don't really know where to go.

 

To win in Bad Company 2 you either capture and defend the flag control points or destroy / defend MCOM stations.

 

No, but the problem is people can reach places that weapons can't reach so they're unkillable. I don't find it much of a problem, and think it's pretty interesting, gives the Recon class a bit more wiggle room considering they're pretty fragile to begin with.

Probably a spawn beacon. Sometimes spawn beacons start you parachuting in.

 

I'm really up for some awesome, teamwork oriented games but they're hard to find especially with the lack of in-game VOIP.

 

Only maps with a high enough ceiling cap and a spawn beacon that isn't under a roof can spawn with a parachute.



As for voip, I wonder when the mumble server would go back up soon?

The Crucial M4 64gb that was powering my Atom 330 server is in my notebook atm, but as soon as the Intel one is back the server will go back up.

Our clan server is US based but it does not get as much action as it deserves.
Mumble will be online once i get my Intel SSD back.

 

Can I connect from the UK to the server though? Will that destroy my ping?

I think I currenty have 42mb d/l 12mb u/l and 8 ping.

 

I been joining European servers, even though I'm based in the US.

It is ok to me. Quite a bit of turbulence flying jets, but helos work out just fine.

 

Is the flag control the ones that says "Alpha," "Bravo," and "Charlie"? Sometimes we already captured all those sites but the game still isn't over.

 

Conquest usually has 3 or 5 objectives, yes. The game isn't over as soon as you capture them, though; holding more objectives than the enemy causes them to bleed tickets faster. The first team to run out of tickets loses.

 

Except in conquest assault, where one team has no home base and if the attacking base captures all flags and eliminates all enemies the game is over.

Do rifles damage tanks and choppers?

 

Not really, you need something more powerful like heavy MGs, explosives and rockets to successfully take down a chopper.
Tanks only go down with rockets and explosives.

 

No, but they do a really great job of letting them know where you are.

 

No. But if it's one of the smaller choppers (Little Bird or Z-11) you can take out the pilot with pretty much any gun. And you can also shoot out enemies in the transport choppers (i.e. blackhawk) that are in the side positions. As far as the Cobra and Mi-28 forget it. Only heavy gunfire will do anything to it.

 

Small arms don't do much against helos unless they are really lucky.

I been shot out of cockpit by usas 12 frags several times before.
Even in a jet cockpit.

 

You can shoot out the pilot/gunner of an attack chopper with standard rifle bullets. Same thing goes for the Little Bird / Z-11 and jets (although it's pretty hard).

 

Got a hold of a very cheap OCZ Vertex Plus 120gb (Not SandForce) today so that means the Mumble server is going up again.
Its backed up by 5 years warranty according to Norwegian consumer laws so if it fails to work the company is forced to replace it.

Anyways i will change the Platoon wall once its back online.

When I'm playing Battlefield Bad Company 2 online, the Q command shows objectives like tagging the enemies. However, there are games that this feature doesn't work. Is this a bug or the host really turns it off?

 

Hardcore mode only shows enemies on the mini-map not in the 3D view, it also doesn't show your health or ammo either, plus your health is like half of normal game mode. This is why it's called "hardcore".

 

Anyone see this?

Ah lame, they removed a teamwork bonus for interrupting enemy lockon when purposely flying behind your teammate.

Also, flares can be used as a counter measure to laser designation missiles.

They also removed the ability to dodge aa missile without the need of using counter measure. Boo, just when I'm starting to get better at that.

 

i wish DICE had mentioned something about the in-squad VoIP and hitreg in the patch notes as well. but since the list is not final, we can always be hopeful they'll be fixed for the release.
