CrossFire from suba games, free cs clone.
i was skeptical but its really fun (mostly cause everyone who plays sucks)
and you get to save up xp and buy guns and stuff.
I love games with experience points.

    My list:

Oblivion (i just saw it in stores, never heard of the series before just saw the back of the box and bought it so it was a sleeper for me).
    The Witcher
Heroes of Might and Magic 3 (again, had no idea about the game when i bought it).

Troika the studio that made bloodlines and ToEE is now defunct so unless someone picks up the license again i doubt there will be a sequel anytime soon.

Quake 4, awesome replay value. I`d add Doom 3 to it also, there`s just something about these series that made me replay it.

Most fun for me were the Serious Sam series...pure slaughter!

dark cloud 2 was phenomenal. ranks as one of my favorite RPG's of all time. this series has it's following, and i think it should be given so much more credit... i've been waiting for dark cloud 3 for some time

Arc the Lad: Twilight of Spirits was a pretty fun game with some cool RPG elements.

Star Ocean: Til The End of Time was very good in my opinion, and i feel the game should be given more credit. the game world is GIGANTIC, and there is so much to explore

LOZ Majora's Mask i feel was rivaled too much by its predecessor making it sweep on through with dim light, so i guess that game can be considered a "sleeper" however, it hardly is not. though of the LOZ series, that is my favorite installment.

Fahrenheit: Indigo Prophecies was a pretty cool game. I never finished it though, but it was an awesome adventure.

The Unreal series ( not Unreal Tournament!). Unreal and Unreal II: The Awakening were both surprisingly deep single-player games. The original Unreal set standards for 3D games and made plenty of technological breakthroughs in gaming engines. And Unreal II was very pretty for its time.

I'm playing through Unreal II again now.

Ok some of you people do not understand the definition of a "sleeper" game...lol

N64 - Winback: Covert Ops, Army Men: Air Attack, Extreme G II, Roadster
PC - Natural Selection (HL1 mod), Mount and Blade
GBA - TMNT (this is a license game of the movie that came out, but pretty much no one bought this version or overlooked it. It was a great side scroller reminisce of the snes turtles in time and it was short, but really sweet.)

Umm, I defined a sleeper in this thread as the OP. Two kinds:

    (A) a game that didn't garner much attention, but ended up being a really great game?

    (B) a game in a genre you never cared for, but decided to play anyhow and enjoyed it thoroughly?

I have to agree, it is awkward, but I've gotten used to it. Also it makes you not treat combat like a walk in the park. Each fight becomes a real struggle (in a meaningful way) versus your opponent, so you don't take them lightly :p

Nethack-Basically a "rogue" game with a very crude graphical display and alot more death. Death is permanent, cursed items are everywhere, and it has a tremendous learning curve, but it is somehow extremely addictive. Also, FREE!!!

    B) Sierra's "The Incredible Machine". Rube Goldberg dominated my childhood through this game.

    A) I'm stretching the line for this particular argument, but I feel Morrowind received an amount of attention that did not match its superiority to Oblivion - it was a sleeper compared to Oblivion, which did not merit the attention it got IMHO.

    B) StarSiege. Mech games don't appeal to me, but StarSiege took me for a ride.

I agree with htwingnut, I really enjoyed JO and JO:E but adopted BF2 after it's following and success was much larger.

Otherwise, I really do not buy any "sleeper" games, I'd rather spend my money on major titles with good reviews.

1 and 2)Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines and Redemption.
I was never really into RPG's at all before I played Redemption. I loved Bloodlines, granted a bit (okay more than a bit) broke, but vampire goth chicks kick butt. Besides with all the unofficial patches out now, it runs very well.

3 and 4) X-com Ufo Defense and TFTD
I understand that the original is a considered a classic, but I mention here because that was the game that got me into gaming. Never was into nintendo, or anything else, but when I got my first computer my friend hooked me up with this game and I was instantly addicted. There was nothing like taking out Sectoids with a Blaster Launcher, or getting so upset that your best, and coolest soldier was taken over by an Etheral via mind control.. Still play it from time to time.

OMG YES! I loved SimAnt as a kid, I had a 3 disc box which also included SimFarm (also awesome, probably even more awesome than SimAnt) and another which I can't remember the name of. All I remembered was I couldn't figure out how to play it.
