Kinda disappointed in Black Ops with the short campaign and the same
multiplayer gameplay similar to Modern Warfare 2 but i was still tempted to buy cause of my friends =X

Where can I find the files mentioned in the first post? I can't even touch the game until I fix those values or else I'm positive my laptop will overheat.

C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\call of duty black ops\players,
just open it with notepad and search (ctrl + F) for "multi" and you'll see it easily. -

IMO, I don't get why everyone hates on MW2. It was probably one of the best FPSes ever. Tubing and G18s were the community, not the game. Plus, I've seen a lot of tubing in BOPs too. I guess somethings never change. -

Multiplayer in Black Ops feels like BFBC2???? Uh, no. Not even close.
BOPS
1. Small maps
2. Running in circles shooting people
3. Dedicated servers (same as bfbc2)
4. Large weapon count
5. Perk System (items purchased with COD points)
6. LAG
Bfbc2 -
1. Large maps
2. Destructive environment
3. Slower Pace gameplay
4. Dedicated servers
5. Smaller weapon count
6. vehicles
7. Weapons and perks available by leveling
The only similarity about the two games (besides dedicated servers) are the games are both online and as usual you have the hack kings trying to figure out how to get the max level and gear with minimal work. BOPS is fun, don't get me wrong but it's not even close to bfbc2. Not the same ball park, not the same sport, not the same quality.

Also, you forgot to include "in my opinion" at the end of that. -
BOPS feels and looks more like COD WAW. Even the Russian dude's voice in the beginning of the SP game is the same voice from WAW, lol. I've just been playing the single player, and it's not that great. I actually liked COD WAW single player and MP a lot more than this game. Not to mention the graphics and game runs a lot smoother in cod WAW. But in BOPS defense, perhaps more patches need to come out for it as it is relatively new.
Don't get me wrong, the SP does have it's moments and gets better as the game goes along. You'll see a lot of slow motion effects, and different characters that set the game apart. It's worth a pick up, but not for $60. Maybe for $20-30. -
This is actually my first CoD. Before this, I couldn't get them because I only had my 360, and I've never been able to use dual analog well. -
-
well caved in and bought it. Fun MP so far even though im lvl 4. I just want the performance optimization patch to come out already.

MW2-----BOPS------------BFBC2 -
Treyarch - BOPs
Two feel and look similar? Coincidence? I'm just joshing. -
the kindest thing i can say about the multiplayer experience on black ops is "it's not finished"
hopefully they'll sort some of the problems with a bigger patch soon, that 8mb patch only seemed to fix some limit on the amount of memory the game can use when open. -
Bad Company 2 and Medal of Honor also feel(somewhat) and look similar.

Heck, Black Ops uses an older engine than MW2, which is why it looks bad graphics-wise compared to MW2. -
-
Ugh, idk why I hit the prestige button AGAIN... but that's not the ugh. What sucks right now is since the last patch that was supposed to "optimize" the game, I've been getting random crashes where I have to kill it with ctrl alt del. I don't even know if it is counting my challenges/kills/stats ect when I kill it.
-
I've migrated to just playing on 24/7 Nuketown servers. Demolition, its quite fun actually and i like the map because you can try all sorts of stupid stuff with your classes. I tried sniping with a ballistic knife and so far i got 1 kill out of 40 tries haha.

Is anyone having freezing up issue in that the game just locks up and I have to control alt delete to cancel the game.
-
Just another caring kill...

cl_maxpackets 100
cl_rate 25000 (or maybe it's cmd_rate 25000)
either way your rate needs to be 25000.
the maxpackets helps with how many packets you can accept i believe, where 100 packets is considered what cable internet users should be able to use, whereas the default was 30 which is sufficient for dsl users and below.
the rate helps determine how much communication is going to the server.
50000 is max, and if you max that then you're flooding the server with communication and are going to slow it, or the server down. i don't recall the low, perhaps 1000 or something, but if you're too low you're not communicating with the server enough.
the game is perfectly fluid for me. it used to hang a bit occassionally before, but not anymore. -
Don't think you quite understand levenly, this is an issue of the game hard crashing, often without error messages. It's not stuttering, it runs perfectly - up until it crashes out of nowhere. It's just since the last 11/19 patch.
-
the most recent patch was supposed to help some ingame settings as well as lower the CPU ingame resources.
i used to get caught in "sending game settings" or something that would end up crashing my game. the game is getting stuck in an infinite loop somewhere. it'll probably take another month to iron out most of the issues. -
BlackOps MP, just nice revamp of MW2 MP. Just as fast and crazy, but with more balance and really fun killstreaks. Is it justify 60$? Hard to tell really, animation clunky, graphics outdated - Treyarch maybe fixed some Infinity Ward bugs, but all in all its same MW2. Guess i'll play a little more till BC2:Vietnam release and for one more year forget about Call of Duty.
P.S. Never got any freezes in game, its sure was laggy few days after release, but since server fix its work pretty smooth for me. You can try to disable steam overlay/cloud and/or just lower steam process priority while in game. -
It is unplayable for me atm. Crash/freeze too often to enjoy. What a waste...
-
froze twice for me yesterday on my server so ctrl/ald/del was the only way out. didnt affect other players at the same time but they also had the same issue at different times. also finding it very jumpy again since the last patch.
-
-
thats not good.
servers are playing up again today. sometimes only shows 50 in my list out of thousands.
hopefully one day they will get it sorted. -
Found a fix that is working for me to stop the random hard crashes:
open folder steam/steamapps/common/black ops/players
open config_mp.cfg in notepad or any editor
search for: seta r_multigpu
change BOTH values to:
seta r_multiGpu "0"
seta r_multithreaded_device "1"
It's been playing well for a few days now. It baffles me how they think that people commonly have SLI/XF setups but not multicore cpu's, which is what these 2 settings control.
Set the file to read only, the only downside is that every time you launch the game it will ask you if you want to revert to default recommended system settings, always click no. -

i had some freezes at the beginning but right now i worx just fine
