I know there are a variety of interests and personal preferences, but I really don't understand or appreciate where there is any value in a streaming device. I've played with the Steam in-home streaming and it works, but after tinkering with it for I bit I rapidly lost interest. I just my scratched my head and wondered "why is this even relevant" LOL. It seems like a huge waste of energy and resources on something totally unnecessary. If you have a great gaming laptop or desktop, what's the point is streaming the game to some pathetic handheld device instead of just using the laptop or desktop? I just don't get it... at all.
-
-
The idea behind it is having more mobility than a laptop or desktop provides. Freedom to go anywhere in your house and just carry a tablet with you is appealing to a lot of people. Just not hardcore gamers who know better.

I like being able to play a racing game or RPG before going to bed.
-
So just take your Y500 to bed, LOL. I've played games on my M18xR2 laying in bed many times.
-
Yeah I'm guilty of falling asleep next to my M18xR2 countless times haha.
-
I don't quite get it either. I love to go smaller and thinner with my laptops, but only for ease of portability, but like my stuff to be managed locally not over streaming. Clearly there's some form of market for it though. Just obviously not many of us here.
-
I agree 100%. Your review of the NP7338 is actually why I decided to get the 7358. It's performance/portability has been great for my briefcase when traveling.
-
I would if I were alone, but my significant other doesn't enjoy the menage a trois with my laptop and me.
A tablet or Shield, on the other hand, is OK. And it's very handy to have two of them so we can play co-op games together. -
Now, that is much more interesting, 27 days from 17th july is the 13th of august if i am not mistaken
-
Gaming laptops make steaming devices almost completely pointless. I can bring my laptop to any power socket in any building in any town - good enough for me. Heck, even trains have power sockets these days but I would never want to game in public! It is aimed at desktop owners who don't want to spend the money on a powerful laptop when they can use the streaming thingy for much less cost.
Don't underestimate the marketing hype machine. To NVIDIA's marketing team, the new tablet will be the best thing since sliced bread.n=1 likes this. -
Hi everyone, I have my GS60-052 on the way. Now I have the fear of the new maxwell cards being released shortly after. I made the "mistake" of reading this thread lol and it sounds like there will be an announcement/release somewhat soon. I currently don't have a laptop at all since I gave my old one away. Does anyone have any opinions on if I should wait for the more efficient maxwell cards (and their best guesstimation on when the new cards should be expected) or should I just stick with the pretty awesome GS60?
-
Your GS has Kepler card. Pretty HOT Kepler card in pretty thin laptop. Which is not so good. However you should understand that Maxwell cards gonna come not today. But most likely in Autumn. So it is up to you. I would either wait or buy GE with Maxwell variant of 850M/860M.

Nvidia Maxwell Flagship GTX 880 and GTX 870 Release Date Confirmed - Coming this November
Desktop 880/870 arrives in November.
I know I'm jumping in on the next round of GPUs for my upgrade from my G73, but I don't know if will be Nvidia's Maxwell or AMD's Tonga. -
"The source of the leak is insanely reliable."
That's reassuring.
-
So mobile Maxwell probably in December or early Jan 2015. Spot on with the Q4 2014/Q1 2015 prediction then.
Also, gonna pass until 20nm Maxwell (or 16nm Pascal if they skip 20nm) unless 28nm 880MX (or whatever it's called) brings at least 50% improvement over 780M. -
Killerinstinct Notebook Evangelist
I think there was a rumor that they are skipping 20 NM for 16 nm. Which is believed to launch Q1 2015. -

FYI:
The first N13E graphic cards was for the first time mentioned in a driver December 06 2011. Those cards launched mid March 2012. These were the first Kepler cards.
If that happens again, we are looking at mid October.
I have a very good feeling on either September or October for Mobile Maxwell GM204 (N16E Q1, Q3 and Q5).
There is also a good chance that the countdown from Nvida UK is about launching desktop GM204 since Nvidia will be on two computer fairs when that counter reach 0, Gamescom and SIGGRAPH. Plus it have been mentioned other places that something big will be revealed around mid August.
Mobile Maxwell will probably be released a month after that, so I`m thinking mobile Maxwell is available sometime during September or early October -
I have to say I tried streaming for the first time last night and while it worked great from my desktop (780 Ti) to my laptop at a pretty constant 120 FPS, it didn't work well at all the other way around averaging 30 FPS. If they're hedging their bets on this taking off the really need to fix it on SLI systems.

I've been planning to buy that tablet a few days as soon as it will be released on July 29. A bit costly but the gadget looks feasible to me.
-
1. If gtx 880m cost around 800 euros...gtx 880mx it will cost more
2. gtx 880mx it will consum more 130w 150w
3. it will be more performant but not huge I dont think it will be 50% on the gtx 780m...they dont want that much of a diffrence from start...step by step -

Shooting the messenger?
...isn't that a little cliché? -
1. it will probably cost more as it's the usual case, but that will also depend on how well amd is doing with m295x
2. very unlikely, you are looking at maxwell here, I don't know how you got to that conclusion
3. why not? start high so they can make a difference, why would you wanna buy a new card if it's only 20% more than the 780m? -
Yeah, those are some ridiculous facts you posted, Branzy.

At the height of AMD's mobile popularity (5870M to 6970M, what a run), Nvidia was still charging $800-$900 for their equal mobile chips.
Point being, Nvidia will charge a ton for the mobile Maxwell flagship, and they won't care what kind of business AMD is doing with the M295X.Cloudfire likes this. -
It would be a bad business decision. They already have the best mobile chips. Instead of blowing everything on one massive jump in performance, they can release modest jumps over several years and encourage more purchases than they would have gotten from the one awesome chip.
-
certainly that's the case, but let's hope amd can do a little than what they are doing before to lower prices down. the point is that nvidia can't really charge that much higher than 880m
no it wouldn't be. they have the best UNTIL amd releases something new such as m295x, if it's as good as what they say it is. both amd and nvidia are running on rebrands for 3 years straight and it's time for them to make a gap, they are not blowing everything on one jump, there's something called 16nm maxwell coming out next year. if nvidia wants to stay on top of the market then they have to give maxwell a kick.
nvidia can do modest jumps once when maxwell is released, but for now they need to distinguish the newer gen or they'll have expect some decreasing margins. it's certainly not the best business strategy to release a facelift when your opponent is bringing out a completely new model -
It's unlikely the prices will change for NVIDIA GPU's. If history serves as an example, the new cards will just take the place of the current GPU's, and the replaced GPU's will have lower prices. That's how it has been for years, and that's probably how it will continue to be. I'd say it's more likely AMD will have varied prices.
-
I honestly wouldn't mind if AMD charged a little more than that do just to guarentee the consumer market they'll have better driver support. I for one would pay a little extra to a more competitive gpu market. Sad part is, after my 7970m, I haven't even looked twice at AMD.
Look at the 880m performance issues for instance. I highly doubt nvidia would be taking their sweet time with a fix if everyone would or was able to RMA to a comparable AMD gpu. -
amd driver blue screen ftw!
-
Holy crap. What GPU is that? It scored 6578 in 3DMark11. GTX 780 Ti does 5153 while R9 290X does 5063

No entries from 3DMark.com score list have that GPU score either. -

It scored 28% more in GPU score (what matters) than GTX 780 Ti. Exactly what I figured a GTX 880 (GM204) with 2560 Maxwell cores would do.
I have cross checked all 3DMark11 Extreme scores that scored 6110 and nobody matches the GPU score.
The bench was run on July 19th.
Not too far away from my estimation calculation which may be correct when all benches are looked at:

Also how close do you think that prototype board will be to final build in terms of performance , I think the final should be a bit faster , god I need more info like tdp and power consumption ( the other important things)
EDIT: Just think of the 16nm now ..... Droool -
Alienware just dropped prices like 10% across all of their systems, and cut some of the configuration options, which is what they did last year right before a refresh.
I think "The Ultimate is Coming!"
Come on NVIDIA, don't disappoint.

Dude mentioned Gamescom. It will go down between 13th and 17th August, just in line with previous rumors about when GM204 finally will be revealed.

Either this is one epic troll with fake bench, or GM204 will be amazing. Beating GTX 780 Ti by 30%. Wonder what the TDP will be
-
First this is what I could see without adding or assuming anything.
Now some may say you can't see the 2nd 8 but if I move my head around my monitor I can get a spot which you can see the top of the number outline and its round, thus it can't be a 7 and must be the 880
And if you fill in the blanks it all fits

Wow... Talk about scrapping for crumbs of information
Anyway, it's about time we see something real that gets us all excited. -
It's not that hard to make out the 880 part in that picture
I'm going to predict the mobile version will see the same performance jump from 680M to 780M. Good, but not enough to justify purchasing if you own 780M SLI already.TBoneSan likes this. -

I say more like the jump between 580 to 680
even more if we don't get a cut down version of the gm204
Brace yourself: NEW MAXWELL CARDS INCOMING!
