But we do. SHIELD tablet is launching on Jul 22.Cloudfire likes this.

Just because we know the tablet is coming doesn't mean it's the only thing they're presenting. A huge countdown like that for a tablet? Seems a bit ridiculous, in my opinion. The tablet isn't all that great, lol.

Did'd know the last thread was closed! Is this info updated somewhere?
Anyways " Nvidia may be preparing new GeForce 800M GPUs" from my last post. Still waiting on some leaks for mobile versions.
-
^^ They got that information from me
Also the November launch date for desktop Maxwell is Wccftech`s own assumptions, and something I completely disagree with.
-
Still see that XoticPC has the GT-72 for sale... last I heard is that these would switch to the next high end chip as they became available.Killerinstinct said: ↑Also The interesting thing is that MSI also delayed their gt72 release as wellClick to expand...
I kind of stopped holding my breath on the 860MX or 865M, just set on the 860M... only problem is now I'm holding my breath on the Asus G551 now for that to be released

I understand. What I really meant to state - Desktop version will release by Q4. So based on ur info (videocardz), assuming 20nm is true (I'm trying real hard to believe in that possibilityCloudfire said: ↑^^ They got that information from me

Realistically, how long would it be until we see broadwell and more high end maxwell chips such as the 865mx or 875mx in gaming laptops? Thinking about getting an asus rog gx500 but im not sure if I should get it when its released later this year with a haswell processor and a maxwell 860m or wait until a refresh with better hardware.

Why is everyone saying Q1 or Q2 2015? We're technically still in Q2 2014. Q1 means January through March. Q2 means April through June. Don't get ahead of yourselves. A lot can still happen in Q3 and Q4 of this year.
Obviously NVIDIA has something big planned for next week, and I highly doubt the "ultimate is coming" is referring to some lame tablet that everyone already knows about. That makes absolutely no sense for the largest gaming graphics card manufacturer in the world. A tablet is the "ultimate" thing? Come on people...
P.S. If I'm wrong, and for some odd reason this tablet is the only thing NVIDIA releases, I'll consider returning to console gaming because that's just dumb.Kaozm likes this. -

I'm not saying the tablet is completely out of the question, I just find it hard to believe NVIDIA would release only that and label it as "The Ultimate is Coming." Everyone knows about it already. A lot of people have experienced the Shield before. It's not really all that new or ultimate. -
I think you underestimate the sheer <del>stupidity</del> power of marketing hype.
In any case I hope to be wrong on this one as well, but given what nVidia has done with Kepler (and Fermi) I just don't know anymore.Cloudfire likes this. -
NVIDIA didn't choose to delay this long. They have to wait for Intel.

You can. I have a custom built one. PC Specialist, Scan 3XS, PWN PCs all sell customisable laptops where you choose the specifications. Those are some examples of sites that deliver to UK, I know other countries have equivalents like Mythlogic, Xotic PC and Sager for the US.marcos669 said: ↑Damn laptop OEMs, i wish we could have custom laptops as we have custom desktops, a 860m with a 1600x900 ips screen would be amazing for both performance and screen qualityClick to expand...

I mean "true" customs, those you build with your own hands, because even this laptops you talk about are somewhat custom, they are not completely custom, you can not put the procesor or GPU you want, you have to choose from a list, and for the screen there are even less options (1366x768 or 1600x900 IPS please....)Cakefish said: ↑You can. Worse than that, in some countries like in mine(Spain) you don´t have that many Clevo resellers with custom configs, we only have Mountain and is reported to have a pretty bad RMA, but is good to know that there are so many in UK because i am currently in UK working with in a scholarship and if i stay i would like to change my laptop -
No 20nm GPUs for Maxwell according to recent rumors. It is 28nm for GM204 then straight to 16nm FinFET with Pascal. Unless that architecture is too complex, they might design Maxwell GPUs in 16nm.tlprtr19 said: ↑I understand. What I really meant to state - Desktop version will release by Q4. The GM204 is apporx 430mm2. GK104 is 295mm2. Reason: Still on 28nm but got to fit in more transistors and cores to make the GPU people happy so they need to make space for those transistors.
I think the people who posted here earlier are correct: Its about the tablet. Videocardz posted everything about it earlier today: HereJ.Dre said: ↑Why is everyone saying Q1 or Q2 2015? You know marketing and stuff: Got to make things seem more important and big of a deal than it really is, to screw with people`s mind and make them buy it. Plus they have put their own Tegra K1 chip in it, so more reasons to try to make it the next big thing

Nah, Broadwell won`t be here until Q1 2015 earliest. MSI have just released the GT72, so they will be more than happy to feature the newest Maxwell chips in it. So does pretty much everyone else.J.Dre said: ↑NVIDIA didn't choose to delay this long. They have to wait for Intel.

I was with you earlier that OEMs waited for Intel to get Broadwell out, but that was before the Q1-Q2 2015 information was posted. Now its just too far away for Nvidia and notebook OEMs to wait for Intel instead of selling new units with Maxwell/Haswell and making money
Everything is pretty much speculation at this point, but if you want the greatest and something better than GTX 860M, you should def wait. Like posted earlier in this thread, something is being revealed in August and I think it is a presentation about second generation Maxwell. If we are lucky, we will see notebooks with 2nd gen Maxwell (GM204, 870MX - 875MX etc) in September.Dremith said: ↑Realistically, how long would it be until we see broadwell and more high end maxwell chips such as the 865mx or 875mx in gaming laptops? Asus is pretty quick at adding new tech in their notebooks so you might find these new Maxwell chips in the same GX500 notebook soon.

Considering that the K1 is a huge step for nVidia and will be the chip Google is using for reference in their develop kits for Android L (and will probably launch a device using the chip to replace the Nexus 7 when L launches), the shield tablet would be a huge deal. At least for nVidia who has not been successful at getting into the mobile market. May not be all that interesting to us but for them, it's huge.
I just hope that if nVidia launches something this year, it's faster and cooler than the 880M and Clevo releases a BIOS update that supports it for their P3xxSM-A machines or Prema can work support into his BIOS mod.

honestly, the K-1 is not that much of an expectation, if they released tegra M-1 featuring maxwell architecture that would be a BIGGGGGGGG deal, that thing thing can blow the crap out of qualcomm.
btw, it seems like apple's 20nm A8 ARM still can't beat K-1

yes, but it's also hotter. the main problem causing nvidia to struggle in SoC market is never performance, tegra 4 back then can beat the crap out of basically everyone else, but rather heat and power consumption. manufacturers are more worried about those rather than how fast the chip runsEthrem said: ↑The K-1 is faster than a Snapdragon 805 which isn't even in consumer devices yet and its 64 bit to boot, which is in line with Google wanting to increase RAM sizes in tablets. if they can release the M-1 taking advantage of the huge efficiency improvement along with less heat and performance boost of maxwell then nvidia can thrive in the SoC market. -
Finally this is the thread that I've been waiting for regarding new Maxwell cards. I was waiting for a very very long time.

No is not, a gaming tablet? there a few "hardcore games" for mobile devices, and i would be impressed if they release something that cant last at least 24 hours of gaming,Ethrem said: ↑The K-1 is faster than a Snapdragon 805 which isn't even in consumer devices yet and its 64 bit to boot, which is in line with Google wanting to increase RAM sizes in tablets. Yeah android, meh. There's nothing out there for gaming to get excited about.
-
It is funny if Nvidia will delay their Supre Excited news same as they delayed Maxwell)
-
Yeah, it's pretty hard to get excited about a "gaming tablet" (more or less an oxymoron) for quite a few reasons, but lackluster hardware aside, essentially a total absence of excitement worthy games is a pretty huge hurdle. I mean, c'mon... titles like Solitaire, Angry Birds and Asphalt don't really qualify. Those are great for a smart phone to kill a few minutes at a time, but it's not legitimate gaming platform, IMHO. At least not in the way it would be viewed by most PC gamers. But, my wife or her mom might look at as something nice to play their card and puzzle games on.
-
I agree. For game streaming from your PC the Shield seems like like a better option since it has a gamepad that appears to closely parallel a 360 controller. Most games support that. I fail to see how a tablet would be a better experience.Mr. Fox said: ↑Yeah, it's pretty hard to get excited about a "gaming tablet" (more or less an oxymoron) for quite a few reasons, but lackluster hardware aside, essentially a total absence of excitement worthy games is a pretty huge hurdle. Plus, you can't beat games running natively. Case in point, the OpenGL ports of HL2 and Portal running in Android on Shield have lower performance and IQ than they do on low-end Windows tablets such as the ASUS T100 and Dell V8 Pro, despite the fact that the Tegra 4 is theoretically faster than the Bay Trail Atom SoC.Mr. Fox said: ↑Yeah, it's pretty hard to get excited about a "gaming tablet" (more or less an oxymoron) for quite a few reasons, but lackluster hardware aside, essentially a total absence of excitement worthy games is a pretty huge hurdle. Even if there were such a thing as a "high performance tablet" the mere notion of using a filthy, nasty-looking, slime-smeared touch screen to fumble around like a monkey with a football trying to play enthusiast-grade PC games is extremely unappealing, LOL.

It doesn't make much sense to me, this whole campaign about "The Ultimate is Coming" being all about a tablet. Yes, it's a big deal they're entering the tablet market. And yes, Shield is an amazing product. But they did not do this for the initial launch of the first Shield product, and that was a much bigger deal than this (at the time). Also, as Mr. Fox basically said, are people really going to be playing BF4 on a tablet? Realistically speaking: no. NVIDIA manufactured the Titan Z...an insane GPU that is overpriced and truly a beast. What's this tablet in comparison? It's definitely unworthy of their campaign, assuming it's the ONLY thing being launched next week (when the countdown is over).
TL;DR: While it may be a part of this campaign for "The Ultimate is Coming," I find it extremely difficult to believe it will be the only thing they launch when that countdown reaches zero. And if it is the only thing they launch, I will be extremely disappointed, as both a consumer and gamer. -
