The 435 is right in the middle of mid-range. I can play most games on high at 900p with my 5730 (even crysis if I overclock), and the 5730 stock should be slightly faster than a 435m stock. So I'm guessing you'll get around medium at 1080p for most games. The 435 may overclock well, but with regular DDR3 ram, and a relatively high TDP, you may not be able to crank it up too much. I think the first batches of XPS15s should start arriving sometime in the next week, so hopefully some new user reviews will be able to give you a better answer.

@seeker moc
Thanks for the reply.BTW why only DDR3,i mean my 4yr old m1330 had 8400 mgs with GDDR3 ram.Is this a kinda typo or what!
Does it effect bandwidth and ultimately the gaming performance! -
GDDR5 is not available for laptops yet. DDR3 is still pretty cutting edge.
-
well i meant GDDR3 lol.Not GDDR5!
-
BTW msi gx640,GX660,M15x,G73jh/jw,asus g53jw and many more! all come with GDDR5 video cardS!
-
GDDR5 has been available on both ATI and Nvidia in laptops for close to 2 years now. Also, like Theprom said, I was contrasting DDR3 to GDDR3.

Hey guys, I'm new to this forum. I've been surfing the net looking for comparisons between these two mobile graphics cards but I've not come up with much.
Right now, I'm looking at a choice between the Sager NP8690, with the 470M and 8GB of RAM vs the MSI GX660R with the 5870 and 6GB of RAM. Both come with the i7-740QM. I'm interested to know which graphics card would offer better gaming performance. I also wish to hook up my laptop to a 23 inch full HD 1980x 1080 display and I'm not sure if my choice of card would affect the gaming performance on this screen.
The games I play are mainly Blackshot and L4D2, but I also wish to run all installments of the assassin's creed series of games and starcraft 2, preferably in the highest detail settings. Which card would serve me better?
Thanks! -
Is there a huge price difference between the two?
If there is, go for the cheaper setup. If not, pick the GTX470M as it should be slightly stronger than the 5870. 5870 has quite a lot more room for overclocking though I think
-
Notebookcheck rates the 470m higher than the 5870m, but to be honest it's give and take between different benchmark scores. As mentioned earlier simply picking the cheaper option will suffice, both cards are capable of overclocking to some degree which will help when they start to show their age.
-
This is more of a question. How well can the Intel GMA 5700MHD run CSS? Don't give me Notebookcheck's 79 FPS on high. I want to know some real experiences. I know for sure the 5650@1600x900 would be around 90FPS.

GTX 470M Benchmark Thread
The 470M appears to be on par with, and at times a little bit fester, than the 480M. -
A friend of mine is going away for work for a few months. He bought my Vostro 1500 from me with Core 2 Duo 2.4GHz and 8600m GT.
He would like to play Call of Duty Black Ops, primarily single player, and Fallout New Vegas. Should these run reasonably well? I OC'd the 8600 GT a good amount from what I recall too. Screen is 1680x1050 but he'll play at 1280x800, no issues there. -
On my 9600M GS which is 1GB GDDR2 I OC'ed it by almost 50% on every clock and it ran those games flawlessly at 1440x900.
I would assume GDDR3 and overclocks should work well on it. -
I've owned my Envy 14 for well over a month now and I'm very pleased with everything from the design to the performance, no complaints here. I customized mine, tried not to break the bank, and went with:
Intel Core i5-520 @ 2.40GHz
4GB RAM
ATI Mobility Radeon 1GB HD 5650
My question is how well will this configuration handle World of Warcraft and the upcoming expansion? In addition, I just got this monitor from Dell for my desktop PC - would my Envy be able to handle this monitor @ 1920x1080 for gaming, etc.
Thanks in advance for any and all help. -
Asus K40IN
Intel Pentium Dual-Core T4200 @2.0GHz
nVidia G102M 512MB (integrated with dedicated memory?)
4GB RAM
Windows 7 32-bit
I know that the graphics card is a low-power version, and my cpu is pretty weak.. but do you think i have a chance running the new Medal of Honor/Battlefield: Bad Company 2 on this laptop? I've only tried Battlefield 2142 so far (which is a pretty old game), and it runs perfectly smooth (30+ fps) on medium (1024x768). I'm not so picky about visuals and effects, just as long as its playable and looks comparable to how BF2142 looks on med..
I ran System Requirements Lab and it more than passed the minimum req, but I don't really trust the results. Thanks!
yikes, nvm about BF: BC2; the processor doesn't even pass on minimum for that. -
I am on a very tight budget and am looking at either of the 2 laptops listed below:
Lenovo Y560
core i5 2.53GHz
ATI HD 5730
4 gig ram
500 5200rpm HDD
$749.00
Gateway
Core 2 Duo 2.0
nvidia 9800m GTS
4 gig ram
500 5200 HDD
$700.00
I would like to play all the CODs and Battlfield franchise games including the newest titles. Will both of these systems support this?
Which is the best deal for the buck? -
Yikes. The Gateway has the better GPU, but the CPU is too weak for a game like Black Ops. I'm not too sure which would be best, honestly.
-
I just purchased the Y560 in my sig for $950 after tax. Granted I have the i7, but I run BFBC2 at medium without much problem at my native RES.
Haha...err, I've already put 20 hrs into BFBC2, having a blast. -
That's fine, but BC2 is far more optimized than BO, so they can't be directly compared. BC2 wasn't a concern either way. I think both cards are fine, but the CPU in the Gateway might be a bottleneck. thing is, it's usually better to go with the better GPU, which is why I'm stumped.
-
Is there a better laptop in the same price range that would run Black Ops?
City Pig - are you able to run black ops with your HP? -
He was also asking about the "Battlefield Franchise"...was just throwing the man a bone.
-
I haven't tried it yet (and frankly, I'm afraid to), but I will soon. If it's any consolation, I found this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I6tG1Rm8m_k (the GT 330M should be much slower than the HD 5650 or 5730, even with an OC)
EDIT: The single player runs great! You'll need to make sure to set the game's priority to high in the task manager to avoid lag, but when you do it's silky-smooth. The Lenovo should run it just fine if you choose it.
I know. I was just noting that the most demanding game has to be looked at first. -
nvidia GT240m
GeForce GT 420M
or

MahmoudDewy Gaming Laptops Master Race!
5650 all the way man ...... it is almost on bar with a GT335 and surpasses it sometimes
EDIT: what you are linking is a GT420 not GT240 which one are we talking about because the difference between the 5650 and the 420 is not as big as the 240 -
And whenever you compare something to the 5650 you may as well compare it to the 5730, since the 5650 easily overclocks as high as the 5730 (and in many/most cases it goes far past the 5730)
-
5650 IS the 5730 (only slightly under-clocked).
Identical cards.
It's the same thing when comparing 9600m GT and 9700m GT (same card, just the former is lower clocked). -
The card I'd compare a 5650 to from Nvidia is probably the 320M or 330M?
-
5650 is better than a 330m, heck it even outperforms the 335m in the M11x at standard clocks.
-
No way, my 320m makes 4700 3dmark06 points and the HD 5650 makes like 7000.
-
Yeah, definietly passes the GT240. And also the 5650 passes the GT425 as well.
-
Will I be able to run Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit?
-
According to this, yes you can.
-
i have a lenovo Y560
i5 430M at 2.27Ghz
Ati hd5730 1gb gddr3
4gb ddr3
1366x768 native rez
How im handling WoW:
all settings set to highest possible except shadows which are set to fair (dont see difference between max and fair setting, except max is killing FPS)
vsync ON
AF 4x
AA 8x
Raid 25man 25-50 FPS depending on the fight. Average is around 40FPS
Dalaran 25-40 FPS. Most of the time on 30FPS.
OG,SW 40-60 FPS. (depending on the amount of ppl)
IF 60 all the time
BGs - The biggest fight I had was in AV 30vs30(estimation) i never went below 20FPS and was still highly playable.
The only region where my laptop struggles is Grizzly Hills. Mixture of fog, fire, water and A LOT of trees.
Terrokar Forest is also handled pretty well.
NOTE: That is on 1366x768 resolution so you will probably have to lower most of the settings to be playable like that on 1900x1080 -
I know that my card (ATI HD 5730) was not really designed to run DX11, and if I understand correctly, not many games utilize it.
Right now, I really only play BFBC2. Would there be an advantage to uninstalling DX11 and installing DX10 instead?
Not too up on the DirectX ins/outs. I do remember seeing somewhere where dx9 actually had much higher FPS, though no sure if that removes any eye candy since it's two versions old and hence doesn't take advantage of some 'features'.
Thanks. -
There is no need to uninstall or install anything, its already there, you just have to know how to utilize it. In the case of BF:BC2, i run it in DX10 mode. To do this you must change it in the gamesettings config file. I don't have my laptop with me at the moment, otherwise I would say exactly where it is. I could run the game in DX11, but I don't see the difference in appearance, so rather than taking the fps hit, I play in DX10 mode.
-
Beautiful...I'll will look into this. Mucho thankso
-
I recently picked up a Dell D630 notebook for a relative song and dance, and I was wondering if it'd be able to handle Starcraft 2:
3GB DDR2667 RAM
T7100 1.8 GHZ C2D
1440x900 Native Resolution
quadro mvs 135m 128MB card
I'm not much of a gamer at all, so I'll run it at 800x600 with everything turned to low/off if I have to, I don't care. Will the game run at all, though? -
Hey Carlos, mind posting your settings? Did you have to change some .ini files or add a parameter to the .exe?
Thanks -
Should be able to run at 800x600 no problem, perhaps even at 1280x720, just set everything at low. NVS 135m is based on 8400M GS, which is quite a bit better than the intel 4500HD.
-
hi guys i was wandering if my new comp can run GTA4
specs:
CPU: Intel core i5 (2.53 GHz, Cache memory 3 MB)
GPU: ATI Radeon HD 5470 (video memory 1 GB dedicated)
RAM: 4 GB, DDR3
Display Resolution: HD LED (1600 x 900) native -
Probably not on the best of settings, but it should be doable.
-
I know there aren't any specs yet but I might end up getting a new laptop for it if I can't run it. Can I run Deus Ex Human Revolution?
CPU: Duo T6400
4GB
GeForce GT120M
VRAM 1GB -
I took new laptop from dell, it's specification is
1645
16 wled
i7-720qm
4gb 1333
500gb
5730 1gb gddr3
9 cell
i need to know which all latest games i can play in it...
like black ops,metro 2033,fear 3... -
You double posted. Let's just call this the real one =p
And it'll play most modern games. -

ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5730 - Notebookcheck.net Tech
That should give you a good idea as to what you should be expecting, but that site gets a lot of hate around here for not being reliable so take it with a punch of salt. -
People hate on notebookcheck?... it's a great site
-
Apparently they dont do their own benchmarks or something.
-
Yeah, they just aggregate benchmarks from other sites. The problem is that they're not all directly comparable, because benchmarks for any one GPU vary greatly depending on the CPU/RAM of the laptop they're paired with, and the resolution the benchmarks are run at, and other uncontrolled variables.
The notebookcheck scores are an average, so when a card has over 10 samples from varying laptops it's fairly accurate. With GPUs that have only 1 or 2 samples, especially newer GPUs, it's not very accurate.
