Ha! You got me there. Actually, I was hoping it would be better. I just bought the U35jc without doing enough research. Fortunately, I'm not a heavy gamer, but I really, really love Civ4, so it would break my heart if I could not play Civ5 on my new toy.

    Hi,

There doesn't seem to be any Aion player with a Geforce 330M equipped laptop. This is my last hope! If you have a similar graphic card, I would like to ask you the same favor.
If this person exists, will you let me know how it runs at 1920x1080 resolution and maximum settings but no AA or AF? Please tell me your CPU as well. I appreciate all replies but if you are going to take a wild guess, please don't bother.

    Thanks for reading.

My macbook with Intel crap graphics managed to run Aion on low. Your fine by all means. However after playing aion for 2 month I quit due to the grindfest that proceded lvl 20.

    Thanks for the reply!
Were you doing quests? You shouldn't have been grinding too much. If you plan to play again, look up quests online and group as often as possible. Also, a recent update boosted quest experience considerably.
Anyway, that tells me nothing. I'm not convinced a 330M can play at highest settings and resolution.

The 330M is a medium level graphics card. I'm sure it could play at 1080p with close to high settings. Theres no telling what will happen with that big graphical update though.

I'm concerned about that. Is the graphic update coming with 2.0?

to my understanding, but apparently that Aion video was a promotional video, to things they are working on, but it might take years for some of the stuff to gets released. it was not a indicator for how the entire game would look like a 2.0. It's a fantastic trailer, but at this point, from what I've heard from people who played it - Aion seems to be a slowly sinking ship in the US and EU, but I haven't played it, so I can't comment on it.

In short, no. Intel's integrated graphics can't run anything.

Target a notebook with at least the Mobility 5650.

The ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650 is waaay more powerful than the GeForce 8600M GT, it can even beat the 8600M GT SLI. :D

According to Notebookcheck.net, the 4650 almost doubles the 3DMark06 score of the 8600M GT, as well as a higher, almost double framerate in current games like Crysis.

Take the results from that site with a grain of salt, as many times they're skewed by overclocking and such, but the general trend is that your 4650 is about 2x as fast. If the resolution is higher though, you won't see a ton of difference.

Sure, but considering 1080p is a pretty high screen resolution you may need to turn down the settings quite a bit. Its a mid range GPU and 1080p is a big boy resolution.

These are general fps numbers at 1024x768. 1920x1080 is more than 2.5x as many pixels.

Don't listen to the other guys, the 8600m is 10x faster... than an Intel X3100.

    3dmark06 scores:

    8600m: 3347 Crysis - GPU Benchmark: 9 FPS

    4650: 6394 Crysis - GPU Benchmark: 28 FPS

Do you think (Since exact requirements haven't been released) the laptop I want to buy could run Diablo 3 and/or SWTOR at 1920x1200? if not, would they be able to run it (30-60fps) at any resolution?

Yeah if your ok with lowering the resolution you'll get more performance out of it. Of course LCD's tend to look horrible outside of their native resolution.

the 4650 is way better easily but it can't handle full HD res.. ur looking at more like 1600X900 res for playing.

should do medium but u need to OC CPU to play on high..

Number one will do but try getting one with ATI 5650.. much better than 330M and not much more expensive..

5650 will not be good enough for full HD... at 1600X900 should play medium... look for something else.

should do as long at low..

no way... look for something with ATI 5850 or ATI 5870 GDDR5 if u want such specs... I recommend Asus G73 or Sager NP8760 at least..

    no way..
should be able to run.. might need an X9000.. try getting one and OCing it.

With a 4650, I'd cut the resolution down to 1280 x 720. I did that even on the 9800M GS in the laptop I used to have. I did it for the desktop 4670 I used to have and the 5570 I have now. The 5850 in my gaming desktop is the only case of me using 1080p for Crysis. I want completely smooth framerate, and we know how variable Crysis can be in that regard.

Is it possible to get a graphics driver to enhance the performance? I did something similar with my 8600GT and it made a noticeable difference.

Theres a youtube video with a M11x on youtube showing how aion plays on max settings. I suggest looking at it and determining whether you like what you see. Also I should say I got up to lvl 25 before I ran out of quests to do... Waiting for FFXIV as of now.

Also 330M is pretty similar to the 335. The video had it maxed with 8x AA, maybe turn yours down to 2x (as anything after makes little diff).

I can also confirm with luffytubby that the game is indeed dying. Its far to optimized for the asian market.

Are these the cards with just 512MB? If so, that'll be a huge bottleneck at x1200.

How much is this costing you? I'd take one Mobility 5870 or even 5850 over SLI 8800Ms.

I've played Aion since launch and I know we lost a lot of players after the first two months. A majority of them were whiny babies who were too accustomed to World of Warcraft. I think we're spoiled. WoW is too easy.

Thanks Breaking Brian but did you read I want to play at full HD screen?

It seemed you missed what I wrote each time you replied because I didn't want any kind of guess. That's all you gave me. I do appreciate you trying to help but you are not sure how it will run. I'll just have to see for myself. Laptop arrives sometime late next week.

When I had my gtx260m which should be at least 2x more powerful than a 330m, I could just barely play maxed out settings in major cities. This was also at 1440x900 res, which is a good deal less then 1080p. A 330m should be able to just play Aion on high settings, or come really close, but only in non populated areas.

Each new driver from ATI has increased the performance of the chips pretty reliably recently. But there's a limit to how much it will help. Best suggestion is to just play with it and see what works. It will be twice as fast or more at the same gaming resolutions as your M1530 is. Run the desktop at 1920x1080, run games at something less, or turn the details down and run them full screen. But that's only for newer games... older games that run ok on your current rig will most likely scream at full resolution on the 4650.

With the way SLI works, only 512MB will be utilized, making it a gimped solution.

Can you raise your budget to around $1k?

I'm not sure whether the CPU or GPU is the limiting factor, but my system struggles at 20 fps on high settings at 1280x720 on 3v3 and 4v4 battles and even in some of the single player cutscenes too. I have mine set to medium/low and it rarely ever dips below 30 fps.

The chances that somebody that plays Aion on a Geforce 330M happens to see this thread and feels like responding is pretty low. Other peoples' experiences with Aion on similar hardware should be pretty helpful and a good measuring stick for what your experience with the game will be like.

My desktop would lag in town as well. Apparently, it's normal. Reducing visual settings or resolution never helped.

I know. I thought I made that really clear, though. A laptop with a similar GPU AND full HD screen is also difficult to find. I already knew I may not find anyone. I just wanted to try one last time.
