But what games, at what settings, and with what framerates?
Details are necessary.

Well maybe I misinterpreted some of your posts - I don't mean to be attacking you. Anyways, I've successfully drove your thread OT and I apologize for that so if you have further questions/comments/complaints/whatever for me, just send me a PM. I'll leave the rest of the thread for your question

Okay, first of all keep in mind if not really a fraps enthusiast, so I don't know the exact framerate
Crysis Warhead: Everything on gamer except for shaders (mainstream), no AA - Around 25 fps, sometimes less when in heavy firefights.
Mass Effect: Maxed out, no AA or dynamic shadows - Around 30 fps.
Mass Effect 2: performed better than ME. Everything on max, no AA - Around 30 fps
DA: Origins: maxed out, 4xAA - Anywhere from 25 to 30 fps, with ocasional dips below.
Fallout 3: maxed out, not sure bout AA or AF, >30 (whenever i say this, it means really smooth gameplay)
The one that really performed like crap was SC: Conviction, I had to set everything to low and play at 1280x720 to get 30 fps. I think there was a performance patch for ATI cards, but it was only for desktop ones. If I remember any other games, I'll add 'em. -
Specific games would be Dragon age, Warhammer 40K 2 and Star Craft 2. Maybe just a few others down the line. I would like to play all these games on High if possible at a FR of around 35-45. there are a few more older games im interested in but have none in mind at the moment.

I was wondering if my laptop can play Mass Effect 2 and at what settings? Thanks in advance.
CPU: Intel i5-450m
GPU: Ati Radeon 5650
RAM: 6GB DDR3

I ordered a i7 studio 17 with the 4650. But after taking a further look I can change my order to an i5 with the 5650. I will be doing some light gaming (star craft 2, warhammer 2, and dragon age to start). Is this worth it or is the difference negligible?

I'd say yes, go with the 5650/i5. That's still a potent combination for casual gaming. You can always just upgrade your processor, but not necessarily your graphics adapter.
-
Except for few games that require good cpus, in the future, your gpu will most likely be bottlenecking your computer in gaming performance.

how would this run crysis? what is the best configuration for the optimal display/framerate for these specs? if possible please include how anti-aliasing would improve graphics/disrupt framerate?
thank you -
You shouldn't be ordering anything with the 285M, not with the Mobility 5870 being faster and cheaper.

can a new acer 4820 with
i5 520m-2.4ghz, 3mb cache (2.93ghz turbo boost)
radeon mobility 5650 1gb
ram- 4gb
how will this run bad company 2 at native (1366x768) resolution, as well as age of conan, and upcoming mmos guild wars 2, rift, tera and swtor (obviously sys reqs are not out yet for some, so a prediction would be cool)
thanks so much!
also, although this might be a question for the acer forum, how long would this laptop (with the best battery) be able to last gaming on full power as it says 12 hours web browsing (one hour, two hours of gaming?) -
Thanks so much! Do you know if my current specs will be able to handle upcoming games like Civ V and FF14? I don't know if the requirements are official for either game have been released. But, do you think this setup will be sufficient for a couple years in terms of moderate gaming? Thanks again. Its such a great asset for this site to have such helpful contributors.

I played competitive Dawn Of War on a GMA950, 15fps, max.
I had no idea though, until someone told me about FRAPS. I promptly bought an 8600M GT equipped machine, and I've been chasing framerates ever since.

approx how many fps would i get playing crysis at very high and aax4?
thank you -
Approximately eleventy and 1/3rd^2. -
I've never tried playing it on this, but I need someone to tell me how high i would get if I played Pacman 1 ... all on high settings of course.
-
Hmm would that be with AA x 4 like the guy trying to play Crysis? Because if so, it might bring your system to it's knees. -
-
In that case I'd guess approximately eleventy and √2/3² -
How well can my notebook run Oblivion? Any chance it'll do 30+ fps at 1280x720 with details set to high?
-

Does anyone know what kind of settings I can run GTA San Andreas on this Compaq laptop?
CQ62Z, Athlon II N330 2.3GHz, HD 4250 IGP, 2GB DDR3 ram.
My current Compaq with a Sempron 3300+ and X200M can barely run the game at 800x600 on low, and it looks terrible. Would the CQ62 graphics be a nice step up from what I have now?
The other option for the CQ62 is an HD545V, but this might be overkill for 5+ year old games? -
-
The 545v is essentially a renamed 4570.

Asus U45JC
i5 450 M
4GB DDR3 RAM
nvidia geforce 310m 1GB VRAM
I know this is a longshot and that the 310 is a crappy video card, but i was just wondering if this would pass by on medium settings in starcraft 2. I'm looking for one of the Asus ultraportables or something similar but those really sacrifice gaming needs. -
If the new Civ is a priority, return your notebook for something more powerful. -
Minimum settings at a very low resolution? Yes, it should pass.
-
yes itll be just fine for pre 2006...
you could run all pre 2006 on high settings... -

Hi all,
Just wondering if there is any possibility for my laptop to run SC2...pretty certain it won't but I'm no expert.
HP Verve 14.1' (HP Pavilion dv2500 Notebook)
Intel Core 2 Duo CPU T5250 @ 1.50 GHz
Memory: 2 GB
Graphics: Intel X3100
Thanks in advance! -
u should be able to run all these games at native res on medium-high details..
-
. One could only dream. Thanks very much for the quick response though!

Hey ,
Is overclocking of the GPU is dangerous ? , as yuou know ATI Mobility 5650 on sony is 450 Mhz and according to ATI.com , it says up to 650 Mhz , so if it is not dangerous , tell me a way to do that ..
Thanks in advance
