cjs cd keys selling for £19.99 in the UK which is about $32, he's run out of keys though until the morning, typical!

WHAT? You call 4-5 hour 101% linear campaigns with crappy AI legendary?

I agree it is now the current standard - producers want to sell as much as CoD after all.

But seriously, its a crap standard to be comparing to. Compare to a game like half-life 1/2, not CoD.

Seriously, the original FEAR has better AI than CoD.

I don't think many people are oblivious to the Infinty Ward/Activision firestorm... Activision are one of the most hated publishers (by customers) and are notorious for imposing themselves on developers and studios (apart from Blizzard... nobody slaughters the goose that lays golden eggs)

unfortunately once quality series like Guitar Hero are subjected to the activision "yearly release" cycle where games are stripped of innovation and little more than expansion packs, when sales fall due to lack of originality the franchise is axed. At this point Activision likely make 90% of their money through sales of CoD and WoW... and that's a scary thought for anyone who wants to see innovative, original titles actually see the light of day.

rant over. All in all I'm actually quite looking forward to this, not a fan of COD multiplayer in the slightest but I've always enjoyed the single player, even if it is basically a 6hour long rollercoaster (in every sense of the word, rails and all)

i went to it as well and now have to wait 7 hours for it to unlock. i can play co-op but the only people playing co-op have 250ms ping from me, go figure. im gonna have to play singleplayer and so far MW1 singleplayer is much better :(.

I have my gifted copy on Steam unlocked (I'm in Australia) and played about 2 hours of SP and 40 minutes of MP. So far SP seems pretty nice & entertaining to me :), lots of different locations & interesting situations and less boring than MW2 & BO's SP. Haven't tried the coop missions yet.

MP, on the other hand, is pretty fail IMO. There were lag in a few of the games I played but it's not too bad as I still manage to obtain a good K/D ratio. All weapons have zero recoil, map design is absolute terrible and MP looks really bad (for some reason SP looked better to me). Gameplay is boring & very shallow from what I've experienced so far.. :( BF3's MP is wayyyyy better, for me even MW2 & BO's MP were better than this. I would have regretted if I actually paid for this lol.

Thanks for your feedback maksin. Appreciated. I'm finding it very strange that the steam forum has been off line for suposed maintanance for the last 16 hours especiaaly with one of the biggest franchise games being released.

The Battlefield series strongest card is its multiplayer, but its nice to hear that MW3 has decent singleplayer. :D
Battlefield 3 SP was pretty much a yawn fest for me.

IS BF3's multiplayer really that much fun? I bought BF2 recently, and the maps were too big, and there were to few people (duh), I also played battlefield Vietnam (which imo looked better, but those maps were too big aswell).

Cod4 got me hooked from the start though, the singeplayer was EPIC, and the multiplayer had me going for months ^^

I doubted to buy BF3 for a sec, because it costs 45€ instead of 60€ like the other games, but the memory of the huge maps of BF Vietnam and BF2 made me change my mind.

So, all these thoughts aside, how is BF3's current multiplayer? Is it more like the cod franchise or are there still huge maps where you have to walk 5 mins before you find an adversary?

Much has changed from Battlefield 2.
Players who want smaller maps can play on Team Deathmatch, Squad Rush, or Squad Deathmatch.
Regular Rush mode plays on bigger maps, but you advance through different smaller zones.

Then you got the regular size Conquest maps and the bigger versions of them.

I usually play on the smaller maps with 24 to 32 players but if i play with friends i go for the 64 player maps.

Either way i might grab a copy of MW3 for rental on my Xbox so i can complete the singleplayer.
Only played a little bit of MP on the PS3 version of CoD4 and it was pretty entertaining.
But then CoD4 was the best version. :3

So from what I can piece together now is that the SP is an improvement over MW2 and BO, yet the MP got worse?

That settles it then. I'm sticking to BF3 MP until MW3 goes on sale :D I just want to play the SP anyways. Maybe reach the max level in MP and be done with that too.

I don't know how the game will turn out, but the trailer with Jonah Hill, Sam Worthington, Dwight Howard was 100% win. Loved the humor in it. And Jonah Hill is the man.

I enjoyed MW, and MW2, so definately looking forward to MW3. BO I didn't play more than a few hours, even though I bought it the day it released. I just never seemed to have the time.

I feel the same way. I don't do multiplayer anything, unless it's co-op Diablo II or Borderlands with my closest friends. The original Modern Warfare is the first Call of Duty game I ever played, and its single-player was thoroughly enjoyable. I'll probably pick up MW2 used for PS3 since I can get it for less than $20 with discount card and some leftover trade-in credit. I'll probably do the same thing for MW3 once the price of that drops a bit. It probably won't be for quite a while yet, but since I don't have a whole lot of time for gaming, it doesn't really matter.

Not to sound like a fail troll but why would you want to play this when BF3 is out? BF3 does everything this does and much more with enhanced sound and vehicles. This just seems like more of running in circles with a knife and kids screaming at the top of their lungs to get a nuke. I know its got a 9.0 review from IGN but they always rate MW games high. Any reviews yet from non-biased game players?

It's a different kind of game. Sure, the gameplay isn't as deep and the engine isn't as advanced as Battlefield 3, but frankly, that's not what I expect out of Call of Duty. It's simple, mindless fun.

And isn't that why we should play games - to have fun?

From everything I've read and watched, CoD has the superior single-player experience, so that's why I will take it over Battlefield.

Thats because this iteration was not made by Treyarch (World at War, Blackops). Both of those games ran terrible compared to IW's engine.

It's bizarre how much of a disparity there is between IW and Treyarch CoD games. Blops was significantly worse than MW2.

I wasn't going to buy this today, but I think I have to now. How big is the Steam download?

played some of the single player and multiplayer before going into work (nightshift fail)

runs like a dream... seriously, can max the game out at 1080p and it still runs well (though I'm currently at 900p to get that silky 60fps) and, as expected the single player seems very good so far

went into multiplayer for half an hour. Despaired at the comparitive simplicity compared to BF3 and logged off

    it's definitely a case of
    Multiplayer BF3>MW3
    Singleplayer MW3>BF3

am sure there are those who prefer the quick 5min MW3 games over BF3's epic battles but I just love the freedom offered by BF3, vehicles, the range of classes etc

it's obvious that DICE tried to copy the modern warfare CoD formula with the BF3 singleplayer, and for the most part I think they succeeded - the visuals and atmosphere add a level of realism that genuinely draws you in (unfortunately the quicktime events are jarring) whereas MW3 doesn't pretend to be anything other than a massively fun arcade, action movie experience where you literally cut down wave upon wave of faceless enemies

they both have their good points and neither are perfect but am enjoying MW3 so far :D

had about 3 hours gameplay now and the last 3 games ive had to pull out as its started running like blops arghh! 3-4 second freezes and very choppy gameplay.
before that it was smooth play all the way.

I am having the same problem, though, the game has been choppy since the install. Gameplay will freeze for about 3-5 seconds every couple of minutes... usually resulting in me being dead by the time the game comes back to life.

    NVIDIA GeForce GT 540M 1GB DDR3
    Intel Core i5
    6GB RAM

    Anyone experiencing similar issues?

had another 10 games and about 2 of them were choppy here and there. its like youve walked 10 paces forward and it freezes for a second and you back where you started from and dead as theres always someone else spawned there in the mean time. rest of the games were fine.

also am i being a dumb numpty but were can i find the dedicated unranked servers?

Anyone getting micro stutter in single player and multiplayer?
Other than the stutter the game works with out any lag etc.
stutter tends to happen when new mission or area is loaded.
    anyways to fix it?

thanks for that, i will check it out tonight even though i wont be using them thanks to being un ranked.

there arent. they show as 2 games in your steam list but once youve downloaded one of them the other only takes about a minute to finish the download.

yup sure am. out of 3 hours gameplay 3 maps had stutter and freezes. you walk 10 foot forward and it hesitates and then you end up back where you started but in the mean time someone else has spawned there and kills you straight away.
all the other games ran fine with no lag or stutter even though ive got older spec than a lot of you.

So are there any major bugs to complain about? My main reason for not getting MW3 at initial launch was to give some time to work out some bugs. I purchased Black Ops the day it launched it it had some big bugs, and needed patches of the bat. I suppose that was due to the fact that it was a Treyarch game and not IW. I havn't really heard anything about bugs in MW3 which is good. I figure I'll pick it up as soon.

I kinda skimmed over the last 3 pages of this thread, so if this has been answered already I apologize:

Aside from the occasional freeze [packet drops?] how does the game perform from a programming/technical standpoint. I bought this for my 16 y/o, and he's terrified of opening it before reading a ton of PC reviews due to the never-fixed technical issues with black ops, etc. [I'm repeating what he said to me, I'm an MMO guy myself]

Are all the graphics where they're supposed to be positioned [hud, etc]? Issues with bad code, crashing, settings issues. . in other words, is the code itself overly buggy, or did they get it fairly solid before launch?

As far as playability, the one common thread I've read is that there's nothing really new or innovative in the game: If you've played MW2 or Black Ops, you're playing the same game re-skinned [some claim the worst of both]. Agree or disagree? [I don't think *HE* cares, but I'm curious]

^Black Ops was Treyarch. MW3 is Infinity Ward. The MW3 engine is based off the very first Call of Duty engine and is known to be stable. The first day of its release always comes with problems. They will be sorted out. Treyarch simply just did not know how to make a PC game. Infinity Ward is CAPABLE of making a good pc game, but most likely will not.

Things that are stopping me from buying this game:
--It honestly looks EXACTLY the same as mw2.
    --No leaning
--Small number of tweakable config options [i.e. no maxfps]

$60 for a mw2 mod? No thanks. I didn't even like that game. Maybe when cod19 comes out and the price drops, or they release some spectacular patches.

INFINITY WARD IS GONE! All the people who mattered with Infinity Ward are now in Respawn Entertainment, who have signed a publishing agreement with EA!!!
    - The latest iteration of the IW Engine, 4.2, is the property of the former Infinity Ward which is probably why MW3 and Blops did not use it.
    - When the creators and architects of COD series, Vince Zampella and Jason West left, so did the rest of the Infinity Ward employees. They all left. Activion screwed over the entire company.
    - The current Infinity Ward is just whoever Activision could find to work under that brand name. Nothing more. They have as much to do with Infinity Ward as Blizzard Entertainment has to do with Activision. Just by association on paper for business.

Have to be made clear again. INFINITY WARD DOES NOT EXIST!

COD CREATORS are Respawn Entertainment! http://www.respawn.com/

Pretty much the only reason I bought it is because I love the MW campaigns.

    LOL

I spent a couple minutes reviewing the comments and only 2 people are praising MW3. Everyone else has very positive comments about BF3. Even those who chose MW3 still praise BF3.

Now that's what you call a successful game (BF3).
