possible spoilers, do not read if you arent done with the game yet...

    ***********************

    ***********************

I beat the game last night..which btw, I LOVED :)

When you are riding in the back of the truck, and that damn helicopter is using you for target practice...were you able to take him out with the bazooka/rocket launcher?

I couldnt hit him, my aim was just off i guess, lol..it makes me wonder if the ending would have been any different if i was able to take out the helicopter before he blows up the bridge....or is it just not possible, and the helicopter will survive regardless.....

    Me neither.

BTW I'd love to have a wallpaper with that "photo" at the ending with all the game characters... anybody did this?

photo of the 4 guys at the end of the credits..wait, not at the end of the credits...after you do that short mission on the airplane and then jump out..

cant be that hard, maybe just take an in-game screenshot? damn...i guess you have to play the last level and beat it again to try it..i'm thinking of doing it anyway, i want another crack at the helicopter...you definitely have to shoot it down right away though, cause they it's too hard once you are driving in that tunnel..

Nope me either. Whenever I had it in my direct sights it would move and I would miss by inches. I wondered that too when I finished the game.

Yeah, I had the same problem, I guess you are not supposed to hit it because if you did it would not be able to take out the bridge.

    I love the ending.

i'm going to play it again on hard level..there were some spots on normal where i had to reload like, 5-10 times..so it should be very challenging..

in some spots, do you think there's always a specific amount of enemies? or are there spots where if you do not advance and get closer, infinite enemies will keep coming out of a door/window, etc...

CoD uses both. There are infinite spawn points as well as set numbers of enemies.

To lengthen the game, I just never advanced and racked up ~400 headshots. I only "captured the point" after I ran out of bullets.

i get into that situation sometimes too, where i'm just poppin them in the head from a distance, and my buddies are just taking out anyone who breaks away from the pack, and no one moves...so i finally charge in cause otherwise it feels like i could sit here forever lol...

I found out that the best way to do it was to run to the right and take a stand near the bumper cars. That way you could take the guys near the fence while most people would rush the invincible Mac. You just have to watch your back and take out the guys that camp near the ferris wheel.

I couldn't hit that darn helicopter either, good thing it flew away.
That was bizarre - interesting, but bizarre. I thought it would have been cool to continue but there wouldn't have been any guys to kill and it wouldn't have made sense for you to live either. Oh well.

The entire SP part of CoD4 was great IMO, I especially enjoyed the part when you got to be a gunner in the airplane.

Lol, it doesn't fly away. It flies in front of you and takes out the bridge causing the crash. That's also why I think it's not supposed to be possible to take out the heli with an RPG as it leads to a scripted event.

I thought the way Jackson died was incredible. The game was unique in the way it tied you close to your characters yet without any background info or cinematics and such. You were dropped right into the action but yet the characters had some emotional attachments.

You can run back behind the buildings you came from and just camp out there only having to kill a couple enemies (just use claymores if you hate sniping) and wait it out.

I just readed the first page, so excuse me if someone came up with this earlier.

I actually hit the heli.. twice. Wouldn't come down as it was scripted to break the bridge.

Yh i liked how Jackson died as its unque. The effect created when the nuke does off was just awesome and i loved the mission where your the gunner and have to save the female pilot within 1 minute. AND the game actually made me care about Gaz and Captain Scott (the british captain), and i think everyone can agree the british mission's were superior in gameplay.

I preferred the Marine missions, they had a more "real" flavor to me (or maybe I just like Black Hawk Down better than Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six ;)). and they are the maps I prefer in multiplayer games too.

I can understand what you mean, but the british one made you feel like a real spy where as the marine missions made you feel like just another guy in the war. In the end thats why i actually cared for Gaz and Captain Scott and not for whoever was with me in the marine missions. But the marine missions where also a nice slice of the game and i loved the mission where ur in the heli and operating the grande launcher thing.

That's exactly the reason I liked them better. They gave me the feeling of really being a part of a big campaign, just one more cog in the machine war. Seemed more real, and the Special Forces behind-enemy-lines is a key that was already played to death in gaming.
Not that I disliked them, specially the ending and the prologue. But in one or two moments I wished to end the SAS missions faster to return to the Marine part of the plot.

Maybe the fact that I was an Infantry guy for almost ten years of my life has something to do with it too :)

I'd said the ending is kind of bittersweet; but admit it, even though it's really short, it's one of the most satisfying games out there... it's so awesome...

PS: What was that about, at the end of the credits, the mission of the airplane, what's it supossed to be??

being a little too imaginative, maybe a homage to the best map (IMHO) in the first Rainbow six, the game that started it all?

Could be another link to that series, as the SAS captain in COD4 and the SAS Sargent Major in Rainbow Six (book and game) have the same name.

I have to say, this was one of the first games I've played in a long, long, long time that's made me care about a central character like that. And to honestly care what I was doing.

When i shot the guy in the face at the end, I felt a better person. I felt like I had finished something terrible.

It was the horrific reality of the death of the marine that did it for me. It had no purpose in gameplay at all. 90% of games would not have done it - jumped to the next level. Not enough action. Not enough instant shooting. Run and gun. I felt genuinely saddened by his death. I WANTED to get back at them as soap. When price dies, I was saddened.

The pinnacle of the game for me was playing as price in the past. Not the standoff at the end (with the amazing rendition of pripyat - seriously, go and look at some photos of pripyat now, and it's ****ing identical, that yellow big wheel is identical). Lying in the long grass with the platoon search force going past. Moving slowly, avoiding them. The game ALLOWING you to **** up, and die, and fight them.

The sense of urgency. Pace. How the realistic weapons add to the experience, the sights, but don't detract one bit.

Although, having just played crysis, I kept thinking "Aww cmon, let me attach a silencer or swap this eotech for an acog".

This has been a good year for games.

CoD4, Portal, and to a lesser extent Crysis.

I say lesser extent crysis, because can any of you realistically say you cared when x or y character dies? I didn't.

good post, joebusby, I agree completely.

This game achieved to me the same or greater sense of catharsis of reading a VERY GOOD thriller or a VERY GOOD action movie. It was Rainbow Six meet Black Hawk Down meet Sum of all Fears with YOU inside it.

Most fun game I've played in a long time. Varied levels with some originality. Loved the gunship level. That was friggin hilarious. Especially when they start talking about the "curved road" - "Follow the curved road" "define the curved road" "its the one with the curve on it" "is it the one with the curve on it?" "yeah the one with the curve" "see the water tower" "which water tower?" "the water tower by the curved road" "the water tower by the curved road?" "yeah that water tower" "follwing the curved road ..."

    Or something like that.

And all the comments when you shoot the dudes on the ground.
