I'm thinking of getting a cheap new laptop for work and a bit of light gaming, so I wonder if an Acer Aspire 5520G would play the following games, and at what settings![]()
The Specs
* Processor - AMD Turion 64 X2 mobile technology (1.8Ghz)
* RAM - 4 GB (installed) 4 GB (max) - DDR2 SDRAM
* Hard Drive - 250 GB
* Operating System - Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium
* Graphics - NVIDIA GeForce 9300M GS
The games:
Mass Effect
Fallout 3
Supreme Commander

It just needed a little love.
When I first tested it, I was running old nvidia 175 drivers that came with the notebook because the ones from laptop2go didnt "stick" (kept reverting after installing 180). Now with the new 185 release it did seem to stay put, and it helped DRASTICALLY.
Setting the resolution is a bit odd though. 16:9 screen mode only offers the native resolution, and 4:3 allows 800x600. I went with 800x600 and it turned out rather decent. Framerate is well in the 30's while just strolling around even with 2 or 3 NPCs walking around inview. Blowing up a bus or two on the highway didnt bother it much eighter. The mutant behemoth rampage outside of galaxy news radio made it cough a little though, 15fps at best.
The boost in preformance even allowed me to pump drawdistance on enemies to an acceptable level, effectively making the game enjoyable again.
Due too the offset of 16:9 > 4:3 people have fat heads though, but it only bothers you if you think about it.
Overall id say VERY playable, and not the least bit ugly in low settings.
My advice to anyone, get your drivers geared up because it does mean live or die for some games. -
I have a Dell Latitude D630 with an NVS 135M graphics card. Can I play GTA IV on lowest settings? Even with a small amount of lag?

probably not, whats your processor?
-
Fallout 3: Low @ 1024 x 768
SupCom: Low @ 1024 x 768 (processor intensive game)
Depending on what driver your using you can end up with a range of different resolution options in different games.

not really familiar to this so if there's anymor einformation that you need just leave me know! -
What graphics card? It'll either be ATI, Nvidia or Intel. -
Hmmm. would an Acer Aspire 5920G run the games then?

My Dell XPS720:
Core 2 Duo [email protected]
4GB DDR3 Memory
Nvidia 8800GTX with 512 mb
I run Flight Sim X at about 40 FPS at really high settings, I'm sure your machine could run it at 20 or 30. I used to game Flight Sim X on my brothers older Gateway laptop with a subpar Radeon graphics card at 128 mb, and I could still get 20 FPS, at medium settings.

Also, can the 9400M GPU chipset handle any gaming whatsoever??? -
GMA4500 integrated graphics
A movie off of a DVD (high res and to external tv) and slide transitions smoothly in powerpoint presentations.
My x3100 lags a bit (well alot).
Might I have to go up to a 9300 or 9200? -
Supreme Commander is, for example, extremely processor dependable. Although it will still be able to run on your laptop. Just put a game settings on reasonable level. -
Fallout3: Low - Medium @ 1024 x 768
Supreme commander: Medium @ 1024 x 768(low on big maps)
MTW2: Medium @ 1280 x 800
Crysis: Low @ 1024 x 768 in DX9, shaders on medium for the less demanding levels, and physics on high
Grid: Low - Medium @ 1024 x 768
Dead space: Low
GOW: Medium -
Maybe Battlefield 2, Spore, and the Sim City series, nothing too new. But I was thinking about GTA IV, do you think it could handle GTA IV on really low settings?

Willy S,
Thank you for the reply! I noticed you said you have overclocked your gpu. Would you recommend this for a laptop such as mine? Any ideas regarding what I could do to get some more juice out of this system without spending a grand for a 8800M gtx? Of course I'd like to minimize the risk of it melting down or exploding on me as well : )

You'll need 3Dmark06 for benchmarking and stress testing, Rivatuner for the overclocking & HWmonitor to monitor the max temps reached.
Ati tools also has a usefull artifact scanner which can help to gauge an overclocks stability.
There's plenty of in depth overclocking guides on the forum which will save me from going into too much detail here
What are the max temps you reach while gaming? If it's 70 or below you're in the safe zone for overclocking(to some extent) -
How well can a m1530 with 8400m gs run games like grid, dirt and fsx?Can it play most games on medium?. What i just posted are the only games i'll play.
-
What games can i play with.
XPS M1530
Windows 64 bit
Core 2 Duo T6400 800mhz front side bus
2.0 Ghz
3GB RAM
128mb Nvidia 8400m gs.
What about the 8600m gt does it overheat? -
Hey!
I was wondering if these specs could run Company of Heroes on max or med settings with decent fps.
P8600
ATI HD3470
3Gig of ram (DDR2).
Also what else can the HD3470 handle (gaming wise)?
Thanks in advance! -
Hi guys! I'm new here and I'm not tech savvy either. I'm intending to buy a inspiron 13
Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T6400 (2.0GHz/800Mhz FSB/2MB cache)
Memory - 4GB3 Shared Dual Channel DDR2 (2 Dimms)
Hard Drive - Size: 320GB4 SATA Hard Drive (5400RPM)
Video Card - Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X3100
I'm wondering if it can play CS:S well with high quality. I'm also thinking of buying Left 4 Dead or GTA IV but not so sure if the video card will do the job.
Edit: Oh I almost forgot. I'm intending to play Starcraft 2 and Diablo 3 lol! -
Hello, how would BF2, Wow, Oblivion play on my system?
Hard Drive Speed/Capacity 160GB 5400RPM SATA
Optical Drive 8X DVD±R/RW LightScribe with DL
Processor Speed 2.0GHz
Processor Type Intel Pentium Dual-Core Mobile T3200
RAM 3GB DDR2 (2 Dimm)
Graphics Chipset Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD
Video Memory Up to 1277MB Total Available Graphics
Thanks. I wouldnt mind some other games recommended that would play nicely. -
If you intend to play games, get a better laptop -
Any good RTS games to reccomend for a C2D P8400 @ 2.26Ghz, a 9200m GS, and 4gb of RAM?
Aside from the obvious ofcourse (Red Alert 3, Supreme Commander) -
Hey, I was wondering if I could run Counter strike source, mass effect, oblivion, or possibly starcraft 2 or diablo 3?
NVIDIA GeForce 9300 GS
Intel® Core2 Duo Mobile 2.0GHz
4GB RAM
320GB HD -
I am aware that the Nvidia Geforce 9300M GS (256mb vRAM) is not a gaming card but what would the gaming performance be like for the following games:
1) Crysis
2) GRID
3) DeadSpace
4) Call of Duty 4/5
P.S. This will be in the Vaio Z laptop and thus because the laptop uses hybrid graphics GPU, and I would therefore be using OEM drivers, 7.15.11.7449 for the Nvidia. -
Low to No
Those are pretty graphic intensive games. There are other games that will work just fine though -

Hey guys im looking at getting a notebook this week, primarily I'm looking at the toshiba A300 series. The specs of my laptop are as follows:
# PROCESSOR - Intel® CoreTM2 Duo Processor P8400 (2.26GHz)
# MEMORY - 2GB DDR2 (800MHz)
# HARD DRIVE - 400GB (4200rpm) SATA
# COLOUR DISPLAY - 15.4" Widescreen WXGA TruBrite® Display
# RESOLUTION - 1280 x 800
# VIDEO - ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650 (512MB discrete video memory and up to 1278MB video memory with 2GB system RAM).
il be using the laptop for moderate gaming purposes, games like Counter Strike Source, Red Alert, Football Manager '09, GTA and such...do you reckon this laptop is good? do let me know asap...thanksss heaps
P.S. I will upgrade my memory to 4gb as soon as i buy it...cheers -
Dirt: Maybe low @ 800 x 600( with a decent core 2 duo)
FSX: Low - Medium @ 1024 x 768
New games on low at a low resolution will be your only option with a 8400m GS. The 8600m GT would be a more suitable card to choose for gaming but i'd suggest you look elsewhere for a decent gaming laptop before going with the dell 8400m/8600m route.
(ask in the "what notbook should i buy" section for more help; faq)

WOW: Low - Medium @ 1024 x 768
Oblivion: Low @ 1024 x 768(the streamline mod gave me a few more frames and smoother gameplay)
Mass Effect: Low @ 1024 x 768
Oblivion: Medium @ 1024 x 768(look up the streamline mod & maybe the low poly grass mod)
Red alert: Medium @ 1280 x 800
Footbaall manager 09: High - Maxed i'd guess
GTA4: Low - medium @ 1024 x 768
Good laptopHarddrives are a little slow if their both 4,200 rpm
-
@cooldude
Yeah, save some money and get 3GB RAM and a 200GB 7200rpm HDD as a replacement. -
Looks really good on the gameplay videos ive seen.
Medieval total war, seriously?
That game has like a million units on screen, will the poor 9200m GS survive such onslaught?
And are you reffering to MTW 1 or MTW 2? -
MTW1
Good game, 2 remains to be seen.
Plasma update that chart will ya -
can my 9400m g run grid?
-
race driver grid
-
*Yawn*
It must be on the 50th page by now. -
-
9500m playing grid how is that?
-
9500m G or 9500m GS?
9500m G: Medium @ 1280 x 800
9500m GS: Medium - High @ 1280 x 800 -
FYI Will, there is a new card called the "9500M" which is being released with the Studio XPS 1340.
It is actually just a Hybrid SLI combo of 9400M and 9200M and will not be up to 9500M GS performance (we actually don't know as no one has got one yet). Just to let you know, as that notebook will become very popular. -
Nvidia 9 series is crazy; i give up
-
Hi again, I have a question for you, will my laptop run The Sims 3?
Minimum requirements:
FOR WINDOWS VISTA
* Windows Vista (Service Pack 1)
* 2.4 GHz P4 processor or equivalent
* 1.5 GB RAM
* At least 6.5 GB of hard drive space with at least 1 GB additional space for custom content
* 128 MB Video Card with support for Pixel Shader 2.0
For computers using built-in graphics chipsets, the game requires at least:
* Intel Integrated Chipset, GMA X3000 or above.
* 2.6 GHz Pentium D CPU, or 1.8 GHz Core 2 Duo, or equivalent
* 0.5 GB additional RAM
My Specs:
AMD Athlon 1.8GHz Dual-Core
2GB DDR2 RAM
GeForce 7000m 896mb Turbocache
160GB HDD
Windows Vista Home
Can I run it? I wanna hear your opinion before I preorder it.
Thx, Gamingdude -
Specs in sig. New Dawn of War game?
Would I see a nice performance boost in games from a 2GB to 4GB upgrade? -
I am a newbie. I wanted to know what games can this laptop run on high.
Acer Aspire 8920G-6A3G25BN - Core 2 Duo T5750 2 GHz - 18.4" TFT
Processor Intel Core 2 Duo T5750 / 2 GHz ( Dual-Core )
Memory caché 2 MB - L2
Memory RAM 3 GB - DDR2 SDRAM
HDD 250 GB - Serial ATA-150
GPU ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650 GDDR3 SDRAM- 512 MB
It runs Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium and gpu ram is 1750 ram.
And i would appreciate any response.
ps: Sorry is my English is bad. -
how will this laptop run games like fallout 3, crysis warhead, gears of war, and cod5? is this laptop even hot anymore for gaming?
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9050279&type=product&id=1218012519873 -
4gig of ram should be cheap = no brainer. Games with alot of loading like oblivion & fallout3 will be feel more fluid but performance won't be affected too much.
Probably won't look as good as medium-high settings @ 1280 x 800 though.
If there's any specific games you want to know about just ask here.
Screen resolution is pretty low though on the bright side you can max most games out @ native on it.
Fallout3: High(maybe ultra)
Crysis: High 25+ fps, 30+ if you tone down a couple of settings or the res a little
GOW: High
COD5: High
You'll also be able to enable AA with pretty much any game and still maintain 30+.
It's a very popular laptop as is my understanding, look around for more reviews/videos on youtube. -
I plan on updating the first post to include links to stickies and other information pertinent to this thread. It should be done in a few days...

can i run grid on a 9200m gs 512mb?
2.0 ghz core 2 duo,
3 GB RAM -
I would think so, maybe at lower settings and a low resolution.
