planning to buy an alienware for next year crysis, what about u guys
-
-
No I didn't buy me R4 to play games that will release next year, although I think mine will be able to handle Crysis 3 or any other 2013 video game for that matter.
If you want to purchase it to play a game that releases next year, why don't you wait for the next revision? -
I would wait till i get it in my hand to build one for the game if you want all the eye candy. Because they said the pc version is going to his systems pretty hard. Harder then the first
-
Well either way you won't be able to run it on ultra then.
-
My main desktop is running 3 GTX 680's so i'm hoping i can run it on ultra at 1920X1080.
-
Yeah, this whole "I'm going to buy a laptop this year to play a game next year" doesn't make sense to me. You will never know system requirements until the game's release (or close to it), release dates are missed all the time, so it may be 18 months or more before it's actually released, and I'd expect Crysis 3 to be very demanding on the newest hardware, although I would expect even my system to play it at low to medium settings without a problem.
-
May be not. Crysis 2 didn't scale well with the Desktop 680.
-
This thread is moderately funny.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2 -
yeah some not so elegant jokes are flying around this thread...
Crysis3 is using CryEngine3, so unless they had a weird switch that they didn't use in Crysis2, it will have the same (very similar) requirements.
Bottom line for OP, don't buy a laptop for a single game, buy it for a year, 2011 was a stellar year to buy a computer (a lot of nice games released around late 2011), that's why I did. 2013 is looking like it will be something special as well, so I would say, wait until 2013 to buy. -
Crysis 3 is due Feb 2013, so waiting until then to buy a new notebook isn't going to do anything. If you want a new computer you might as well buy it now.
-
I agree, if you need it now, but if you are buying a new laptop for playing Crysis 3, and no need for it until then, might as well wait at least a few more months.
-
And if your buying a laptop for the game i would not get a Alienware unless you feel like wasting $3,000 to play it on max. Most of the systems are $500+ for the same specs.
-
Agreed. The game won't stress the high end laptops that much. It's going to be a console port and CryTek I think has given up on PC. Crysis 2 was again among the most pirated games, so I don't see why CryTek will be encouraged to put in much effort into Crysis 3.
Put it this way, this company was so lazy that when people demanded tessellation, they tessellated EVERYTHING, even water on land. They didn't clean it up or put some thought and time to do it right.
So why would anyone expect Crysis 3 to be different? I could certainly be wrong, but I wouldn't hold my breath for it. -
yepp you are right, they are planning on turning CryEngine3 into the next IW engine (Modern Warfare), a million games with the same graphics (well, hello money), console insanity...
ummm, what???? If you find a same spec system with alienware more than 500 bucks cheaper (forget about 500 for the system), I will donate you 20 bucks for it. Stop with the bs if you don't know what you are talking. They all have similar prices, MSI/Sager/Alienware (latter being slightly more expensive). -
Yeah with my config, I got my laptop for about 80 bucks more than a Sager. I would gladly pay double that difference so I could use switchable graphics and turn off Enduro.

And the same specs in a sager np9170 at xoticpc would be $1819 (and that's before the cash discount and the NBR discount).
That's $530 cheaper.
But that is an illusion that can trick a lot of people into thinking alienware is $500 more expensive.
When really the difference is that with alienware you have to call them and negotiate + use coupons and then you will get the real price, which wont be $500 more than a sager, msi or asus.
Now where's my $20
-
So $530 + 3% cash discount ~ $50 so $580 cheaper vs having to call and negotiate like at a flea market, and coupons which usually run at best $100 off... and then not everyone will get the same discount, only those that are good sales people themselves and work it for hours with numerous calls to their support, might save $200-$250 at best. So even if you drop cost $350, Sager is still $230+ cheaper. Plus I know a couple resellers that will undercut that price by another $50-$100 depending on config if you want to go that route.
Within $200 of each other, it would be a tough call, but I still like Sager for their simplistic design as I personally do not care for the bling and styling of the Alienwares. -
I'm looking forward to getting Crysis 3!! My G75 will do nicely.
-
If you are adding RAM when you are configuring in dell webpage (worst decision ever...) then you don't know your business... (and after reading your answer again, I figured out you purposefully did this, shame on you bro
) keep the RAM and HDD the base (if you don't want to be ripped off) and then compare the prices, you will end up with 100-200 difference.
-
Huh? Even if you leave the memory and HDD base on the Alienware, it's still at least a $300 difference. And that doesn't include the 50 dollar XoticPC cash discount.

$1,249.99
Asus - 17.3" Laptop - 8GB Memory - 1TB Hard Drive - Black - G75VW-BBK5

I dont care if you can get money off the Alienware you can get money off of any system if you look hard enough. Its a well known fact Alienwares are over priced. I dont care if you pay with your bridge card on the 17th of every month that has a lunar eclipse in it and get $150 off. Its a known fact that they are over priced and quality has went down the crapper since dell took over. Anyone can get discounts on any computer system hell i only payed $900 for my new G75.
lol its fan boys. Wait for the apple ones to come in and omg those are junk you need a macbook pro there so fast never get virus and dude i can run farmvil at 42fps full screen bro its serious over on the apple side. -
Um yeah the M17xR4 with the 7970m and the screen upgrades costs about 1850 bucks. I have trouble finding this $300 cheaper Sager you mention. Remember that AW uses 72% screens. That is a 150 dollar upgrade on the Sager. This is offtopic but let's not start hating on AW without reason alright? It is the only system that has a 7970m and features switchable graphics.
-
That 1700 config is one of SEVERAL that I can find just to prove your point. My config cost me less than 1900 bucks. Find me a Sager with that EXACT same config that costs you 1500 or lower. There are many things out there on the web to prove your point. There are also many that prove mine. Stop coming out with incorrect information all the time. First post - Crysis 3 going to be hard on PCs. Incorrect. 2nd post - Crysis 3 will run just fine in HD on 3 SLI 680s. Not necessarily - C2 was known to not scale well and they are using the exact same engine.
-
Actually that $1724 on the M17x is with only a 1600x900 screen. It rings up as $1974 with 1920x1080, 8GB RAM, Intel Wi-Fi. Same config with Sager is $1674. Add tax to M17x and deduct 3% from Sager... That's over $300, more like $500 if you are taxed and take the 3% discount. Not to mention the option to remove Windows from Clevo for another $80 savings. Sager has free upgrade to 16GB, M17x costs $75 to get to 8GB. Sager will also remove the RAM for ~ $40 savings and remove hard drive too for ~ $40 savings if you really want to. So if you already have Windows, RAM, and HDD/SSD you will save $160, an option you don't have with any Alienware. So if you have your own Windows, RAM, and SSD/HDD, system will cost you ~ $1450.
-
Crysis 3 will probably be like Crysis 2 in that it'll scale down pretty well but still be really demanding maxed out. Surprised that nobody posted this yet: Crysis 3 will "melt down PCs" .
-
LOL. It will very likely scale well. Hell, I played and finished Crysis and Warhead on my 8600m GT Dell Vostro 1500 laptop.
-
Your making out like anyone has bought an Alienware has been conned. Like we didn't know there was and Asus or a Clevo.
We did, we didnt want one. We wanted an Alienware. -
Off-topic has been reached to insane heights in this thread lol
-
If you want an Alienware that's supergreat for you, just don't try to pretend like it's a great value. It's not. You can get the same config for significantly cheaper elsewhere.
No it doesn't, the M17xR4 costs 2099 with the 7970m, straight from Dell's site. -
you know what, learn about computers first, then come argue that alienware is awful.
-
Never said Alienware is cheaper. But the same discounts you can get from retailers, you can get it from Dell, I got about 27% discount on my laptop. Anyway, you know my point, same config m17x is about 200 dollars more expensive, bottom line. Difference in base maybe 300, but that's because Dell charges less for a 7970m.
-
Talking about price before arcane, jump through hoops discounts. How many people know that they can call and haggle over their laptop's price?
Anyway, this discussion is pointless. I'll never understand why AWare owners take offense when it's pointed out that AWare charges more.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2 -
Because it does NOT charge like 1k bucks more! (about 200 more) To clarify the situation I will write one more time:
ALIENWARE IS MORE EXPENSIVE AND I LIKE TO BUY EXPENSIVE STUFF.
But also a Ferrari is more expensive than a WW right? Same configured alienware will be much cooler than any Sager/MSI (forget about Asus, it is not a gaming laptop).
Anyway, I like alienware but I think I am buying 9150 (or equivalent) in the future as I am becoming an old man and logging around 9 pounds is a pain
-
Nobody said it was 1k more.
Most people don't like buying expensive things just because they're expensive, so I guess you're in the minority?
Can you prove that an M17x is cooler than a 9170? I suspect that you cannot. Is the fit and finish on an M17x superior to a 9170? Perhaps, it depends on individual taste. Is that worth the money to some people? Clearly it is. But let's refrain from making baseless claims about temperatures. -
and speaks the person that owns neither of the systems... I am done with this thread of people talking about high end systems without owning one.
BTW for your information, read the entire thread to understand what happened. Someone in particular claimed you can buy a 3k alienware for 500 bucks. -
Exactly what I thought. A ) nobody said you could buy an Alienware-equivalent system for 500 bucks. B ) you don't need to own a sager or an alienware to know how much they cost. I guess when all else fails, resort to handwaving.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2 -
I agree with this. It is a fact. Any time you configure a laptop even with an in-your-face AW coupon, it's more expensive than a similarly equipped Sager by more than $200 as I showed earlier. Cut it however you want, it is a fact. I don't think there's anything wrong with owning an AW, but denying the fact that they're more expensive is like ignoring the nose on your face.
-
So you say you didnt talk about temps?
@htwingnut, bro who said they are cheaper? Yes it is about 200 more expensive. Ok I am going to end this here, as people started to confuse what I am saying. Bottom line I work my off to make good money and like to spend some of it on expensive stuff. Just to let everybody who is considering aw, best decision I ever made, a ton of people complain about aw without buying one, I also read them before buying, they couldnt have been more wrong. And I am not only talking performance, it is also quality and service which makes the difference. -
I didn't say that. But when you introduce a statement of fact in a discussion, you need to support it with evidence, not say "pffft, begone, you HP plebian. You certainly could never understand the world of Alienwares and Sagers."
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2 -
Some sager with 7970m owner can you please post an hour of gameplay screenie with temps < 68c on bf3 ultra? Otherwise people won't stop talking.
-
You don't need to get huffy just because you made a statement you have no proof of.
-
Buying a machine for a game that hasn't been released yet is like buying a window without the glass.
-
I dont agree, i bought my machine for playing Gears Of War 3 on Pc, then i realised it was for Xbox360 only......
Nah kidding, i bought mine in May2011 for BF3 in Nov 2011. But thats not to say i didnt play numerous titles in the mean time.
Btw, thats an obscene amount of D/L speed. -
Next time, OP should refrain from mentioning alienware. I don't know what's worse, poor car analogies or alienware.
Also, car analogies are SO 2009. -
Never got the problem with Alienware? Guess I'm just not in the loop of hate.
-
Practically everybody just dislikes it because of the terrible price/performance. I dislike alienware because of the intake-based fans, and glossy screen, plus alienware laptops look like toys that were made for teenagers, whereas MSI, Asus, and Clevo look sleek without being too "gamer".
-
It's not a "loop of hate". Some Alienware fans just get upset for no discernible reason when you point out that the same configurations can be had for cheaper elsewhere.
-
"too gamer" ?? Its a gaming laptop. lol
Christ, the guys so image concious he worried what the world will think of his laptop.....Do you wear a Burkha? just in case people think your fashion sense is terrible? Im just kidding.
You dont like it? Great, im sure your happy with that MSI laptop!!!!
Cant believe people are actually trying to gain some sort of moral high ground over they're choice of laptop. Like they're some sort of superior human being because they think they saw things no one else did when choosing a gaming laptop. You damn genius you!!!!
Ridiculous. -
So if the G75 with 660M will do nicely, what about us 7970M and 680M users?
-
I love my Alienware but I'm open to other options as well. I do know it's expensive sadly. But I love the design of them. And all the cool colors every where. I've never handled an msi so I can't compare.
