Yeah my temps went by 2-3C, but the performance overall is better i find![]()

The only bad thing that came with this driver is the random Crysis crashes are back. Seems like Nvidia re-broke the "driver has stopped responding and has recovered" bug it fixed last year. But the framerate in Crysis is still better and every other game works flawlessly so I don't want to switch back.
-
Oh i havent had that driver problem since the 180xx
I think these drivers are the real deal -
mine idles at 54c and stressed at 79c. nice boosts in l4d. was 60 average now at least 70. thanks alot DOX
-
good drivers, dox! much appreciated!
-
I installed it and I gotta say this driver is Awesome !!
My temperatures dropped about 5c on ACPI and CPU. Also GPU dropped about 2c after 3dmark06 Far cry and FEAR test. Not only temp. runs cooler but I got higher score on 3dmark06 than nvidia 179.48 driver, about 200 more pts. It's a keeper ~~ -
Yeah it is getting very annoying. I can't play Crysis anymore because of it. But hey did beat like 12 times so it's no biggy. Just got Fall Out 3 and lovin it. -
different drivers and different games have different overclocking tolerances.
For me current overclocking crysis plays fine no display driver stop responding.
Sometimes u just have to accept it and reduce the overclocking.
Just be thankful you're not on xp where it would BSOD. -
love the driver over all , but its true about crysis
it crashes
-
If it was an overclocking thing, it wouldn't only happen on Crysis out of a dozen different games, benchmarks, and stress testers. This is a known issue with Crysis, and it looks like it's back with these drivers. It's obviously not going to happen to everyone, though.
-
how good is this driver compared to 18.05 in terms os o/c capability?
-
Awesome driver! my 9800m GTX is idling at 39c and only had it up to 60c while playing Warhead.
Just played through the first level of Warhead, everything set on Enthusiast, 1280x1024, turned off EdgeAA by editing config and got an average about 18 fps and it was very playable. Then I just turned shadows to mainstream and motion blur off and averaged about 25fps and looked fantastic. With the same settings at 1920x1200 I averaged about 14 fps. This is with QX9300 stock, 4GB DDR3 Ram. -
Whats a good program to monitor temps now? i'm using vista 64 bit and riva tuner wont work because windows made it impossible to disable driver signatures and i'm using a non signed driver...also I installed this 182.46 driver by DOX...I booted in safe mode and uninstalled the Nvidia display driver with driver sweeper. I then installed 182.46 and tried running WoW and everything was getting high FPS but was very choppy so to speak. I'm using np5796 9800gtx? did I uninstalled old drivers wrong or is it just not a good fit
THanks! -
On vaio fz doesn't work brightness
-
you can use CPUID hardware monitor to check on temps.
-
Tempting to try these out...I have the 179.48 beta drivers right now. Would it make any noticable difference if I got the dox drivers for my 9300m GS?
-
-
hey dox,
i'm really tempted to upgrade my driver for my 8600gt. i just had 1 quick question.
i read about some image quality reduction that really had me concerned. could u please explain on this situation a little more thoroughly? -
you wont notice the difference, its very very very slight
-
"Woah Dox,
I just had a revelation with your drivers and my laptop. I actually gave up the 182.46 in favor of the 182.05. I then just got curious and installed with "quality" instead of the usual "balance". WOW. This is simply amazing. I thought I had already received all the possible benefits that your drivers can deliver. I am speechless.
Not only does all my games play without the usual minimal stuttering, the images are more sharper. The whole visual experience is pleasing! Performance has just reached another milestone. I'm playing at higher resolutions. This is truly amazing. (this is compared to 182.46 and 182.05 balanced)
For others who believed that quality would hog their resources, I'd recommend to give "quality" a shot on the 182.05
Truly amazing..."
he then gave some performance comparisons:
Well take this into consideration.
Call of Duty - World at war
182.05 Balanced
960 x 600 res
Mid High settings
This is the resolution I'd normally play that wouldn't make me dizzy from the low fps and stutterings
182.05 quality
1440 x 900
Mid High Settings
This is the resolution I play now. I'm actually getting better performance than when I was on balanced and the settings I mentioned above.
i myself have tried the 182.05 and in a way i think he is right.
when using the quality settings of 182.05 i think my framerate dropsincre by maybe 1-2 fps but everything looks so much sharper and smoother giving the illusion of better performance. also the quality settings run so much cooler that i am able to increase my o/c a little figher and thus make up for the lost fps and more. like he said it allows me to increase my resolutions in the end.
care to comment on this?
cheers -
-
i suggest you try the 182.05 in quality settings as they work really well on the 8600 cards
cheers -
Super-stable framerate on Bioshock with these drivers:
1366x768 in DirectX10 with all settings On/High:
Min 52
Max 61
Avg 59.2 -
i wouldn't mind checkin out a driver that would give me some performance boosts tho. so u guys are sayin i should try the "quality" 182.05 install instead of the newer one? will this driver really make THAT much of a difference?
one thing i don't really mess with too much is drivers, so any help would be appreciated. -
I recommend 182.05 if you want to play Crysis, 182.46 if you don't. 182.46 is the best overall, but broke something in Crysis.
-
i havent tried the new one yet but that guy over at laptopvideo2go suggests 182.05 quality for 8600's
its been working really great for me and has improved picture quality and temps over the balanced settings
i really didnt like pic quality with 182.05's balanced settings and i think 182.46 has similar picture quality...
also 182.05 seems more stable at least for the 8600s
but what ever you choose i think you see a very healthy boost in performance over your stock drivers!
good/optimized display drivers do make a big difference imho
hope that helps -
After I installed these drivers all my physics in Fallout 3 have gone askew, ie people not moving their legs when they walk, just floating and heads tilted at wrong angles...
Anyone know what the problem is? These drivers give me good performance on other games - its just fallout 3 -
-
Exostenza, I jumped back into the LV2G thread, seems like you're having problems too. I think Nvidia borked something in these drivers, and that it's manifesting differently in different systems. You can't play FarCry 2, while I can but can't play Crysis.
-
i'm gonna give 182.05 "quality" a try and see how everything goes. could anyone tell me if these drivers are compatible with rivatuner? ever since i updated to a newer Dell GPU driver, i haven't been able to get the FPS and temp to display anymore.
i rep'd u guys for all the great info -
I am going to try a fresh install of these new drivers soon and see if it helps and I will report back. -
I used Driversweeper, and I have less severe but different problems. Crysis & Crysis Warhead generate driver errors. No temp or artifacting problems, though.
-
So what do you guys suggest me to use for my 9800m GS?
182.46 Or 182.05 with quality setting?
I am playing GTA IV and crysis. No overclock. -
-
I uninstalled and used driver sweeper to remove leftover files, but i also accidentally deleted the nvidia control panel files, is there a standalone file for the NCP? I do not want to reinstall a previous driver just to get it back.
Any help would be much appreciated. -
-
I tried this driver and found some games had random crash issues especially Crysis warhead. I went with Nvdia's latest 179.67 and no problems so far.
-
for me these dox's drivers were the best so far.
-
this newest driver completely disrupted my GTA IV experience, game is having higher frame rates but its notably slower, its like there 2 seconds gap between each frame and the other.
its really annoying, i will revert to older one -
The general consensus seems to be that these drivers perform good when they are working, but are unstable. Hopefully there's a good driver out there for DOX to work on next.
-
In my case, these drivers have performed slightly better than the 182.05 build in majority of the games.
-
Sleep worked for the first time, now I get BSoD when I try it.
Hibernating doesnt shut down comp, only the screen shuts down.
Downlocks gpu when it reaches 96 degrees. 3DMarks06 fell 180 points. =.= -
About 5-6 more minimum frames with my OC'd 9600M GT which is pretty nice. Maximum frames seemed to have suffered a bit though but the overall image quality is a bit better so I can deal with it.
Also, mostly unrelated but the Nvidia beta drivers for Linux now allow 32x32 or smaller pixmaps to be loaded directly into VRAM. 2D stuff is a LOT snappier. Nvidia's been doing pretty good in the driver department lately, not sure what caused the sudden change. -
I've been running 182.05 for some time and love it.
Any reason for a 9600M GT user to move on to the .46 drivers?
Will I notice meaningful improvement of any kind in something like Team Fortress 2 or UT3?
Advice is appreciated, as always. -
on the new 185.66 the performance is comparable to DOX 182.46, and as a bonus FIFA 09 work
-
9600M GT User ere. 184.46 works great with CoreAVC's new CUDA implementation. 7% CPU usage for a 1080p film.
What more do you want? -
wow, that's impressive. but did you mean 18 2.46? or 184.46?
-
These drivers sound pretty sweet I am contemplating installing, but I like to have sleep working properly on my lappy...
Look forward to hearing from you guys -
Switched back to 182.05 by Dox, which is excellent and everything works without a hitch aside from the relatively higher performance compared to the stock 182.05.
While I still had the 182.46 by Dox, I was unable to test if other features such as waking from sleep, multiple monitors, Powermizer, etc. was working, but I was able to test performance. It didn't increase much except for the minimum FPS, but what surprising was the GPU temperatures. My GPU was constantly downclocking while playing due to temperatures already hitting over 90C (!!!). It would usually hover at 80-82C while playing and only downclocks due to temperature after a few hours of playing. But mine already started downloading due to 90C temps just within an hour. I can live with lower minimum frames if my GPU won't die. So far the 182.05 by Dox works just as good as the stock 182.05. I'm sticking with it for it as the 182.46 gives me unacceptable temp increases. -
i can confirm that sleep works on my gateway with these.
DOX 182.46 Optimized drivers now available
