Anyone know if I can just preload now and then pop in the key 2 months later if I get the retail version?
I'm sure this game will be great. If Blizzard can follow the way d2 went. I like how it is more PvE oriented right now. I'm sure down the road we will get expansions and major patches like d2 did adding on a lot more content. The only thing I don't like currently is the 4 player lobby. I want at least 8 players back like d2 had. At the least make it 5 so we can have 1 of each class in a game.

I'm pretty excited about this announcement, other than the fact that I will still be in Asia at the time and my laptop will be thousands of kilometres away in Canada. I also realized when the date was announced that I forgot to pre-order the Collector's Edition.
I managed to place one, and expected delivery date is about a week-and-a-half after release, but that's fine because I won't be home yet!
I would also love to see 8 players, any less won't cut it for me, and more will just over-crowd things in my opinion. -
Amazon supposedly puts some CE's up every day, depends on if you are lucky or not.

Amazon $199.00???
Buy.com had it for $85.00 the other day. I prob should have got it just because it was on sale.
I was not too interested in this game but now I kind of want it as a place holder till Guild Wars 2 is out and I would like the CE avatars for Starcraft 2. -

Ugh... there are goign to be some tiers I avoid on purpose... they look horrible.
The Barbarian loses his "tribal" look for a "metal bull" somewhere around tier 10. This is supposed to be a platemail-wearing tribal warrior. Truthfully, earlier tiers looks better and more fitting.
The Monk... I don't know what to say... His armors would be unwieldy and unbalanced. I can certainly see a monk training themselves to fight in armor... but THAT? No way. -
They look like cartoon aliens. I'm going to pass on this one. Resurrect me when Diablo IV is released.

I have to say that the Witch Doctor used to be the least-likely character I would play... now it seems the most likely.
The character abilities look fun in an odd way (who doesn't like exploding zombie doggies or corpse explosion v2??) and his armor tiers look less stupid. (sure the mask gets over-the-top, but I hear that's the whole point for a spirit mask!)
The barbarian seems just so ho-hum... I have no desire to really play one any time soon... Maybe as a last resort...
The monk was an interesting curve, but the implementation looks just so paladin-by-another-name. Worse, I'd kinda prefer the old paladin-cheese to the new monk. Holy blast is seriously plopping down something 4 times the size of the monk? really? I really have no interest in this class at all. In fact, I may completely avoid it completely and never play one.
Demon-hunter was a neat concept... but rocket-launcher? really? The assassin's traps and bombs were contraption-like, but rocket-lancher may be too much for me.... I'll have to see. I DO plan on playing one.
Wizard - the class I most wanted to play to begin with and remains on my list, but now behind the Witch-doctor. -
Wizard was the most normal looking. Demon hunter was total lol. Barbarian had a lot armors inspired by Bulls. Not too bad imo.
-
I speculate that the expansion will add two more classes, two more acts, level cap increased to 70, introduction of a lesser evil or a plot twist.
-
exactly... they are targeting < 10 years old, that's for sure...

I'm going Witch Doctor all the way, can't wait!

I read that Diablo 3 requires a constant internet connection? I hope that's not true. If so i'll still buy it but i'll wait for the crack first.
-
-
-
Not entirely like WoW. I think you should try Diablo 2 or watch some gameplay videos of it first before you make your judgement.
-
Yeah i've played Diablo, Diablo II and the expansions. But I guess i'm failing to understand the connection between having to be online all the time.

Welcome to 2012 or 2011 or 2010 etc
-
It's pathetic.
I prefer SP games as MP is not something I like at all.
However, Diablo 3 has a story mode where people will be able to play the SP if I'm not mistaken.
The online internet connection is there as a pathetic attempt to prevent piracy (carefully veiled in the premise that you can import your character from SP into MP without starting anew).
I think a crack will become available for offline play. Last time I checked, D3 is not an MMORPG. -
Of course there will be a crack.
Meanwhile pirates are laughing...like online only will prevent piracy...you'll just download an already fixed ISO.
It only serves to annoy legitimate users. -
-
When gaming studios start treating their regular customers like criminals, it's time to stop supporting that studio. Thus I refuse to buy games from Ubisoft, EA, and (possibly) Blizzard. This whole SP/MP user fiasco could have been avoided by simply stating you can either create a character for both modes (but it requires an internet connection to authenticate the character) or a single player only character (no internet required).
-
you can play alone/single player however because it still requires an internet connection because of achievements (which is what seems to drive all of blizzard's game since it was introduced in wow), anti-piracy perhaps among other things.
it still ends up like an online game, annoyingly even if you're playing alone you still get lag spikes and all the annoyances of playing a single player game online -
-
To actually 'pirate' Diablo III, they need to either build an emulator from the ground up, or somehow acquire the serverside net-codes from Battle.net servers (won't happen unless someone leaks it or some dedicated and resourceful hackers put their minds to it). It's basically like trying to 'pirate' an MMORPG.
-
I haven't searched in a while, there have been plenty of MMOs that have been 'pirated' into private servers. -
They already made one for Ubuntu, if i remember correctly.
-
To that end, if the initial premise of the game is to store characters online, then the crack would only have to force the game to store them onto one's computer because the rest of the game/quests/story is on the computer and isn't stored on the servers.
It's not a mere client like other MMORPG's.
Basically, the way I see it, it would appear that D3 online approach is essentially the same like the one implemented on Assassins Creed 2 -
The 16th tier barbarian armour isn't very tribal, no, but nor was the top-tier barbarian armour in Diablo 2. Honestly, look back at the design for Diablo 2, and there is no way you can tell me he doesn't look like Sarevok from Baldur's Gate; that isn't remotely tribal.
I do agree that the monk armour looks a bit unwieldy and could be toned down a touch, however at least they didn't put any plating on his legs or torso, so I'll accept it for the fantasy setting that it is.
All in all, I wish the theme was a bit darker in design and more akin to the previous entries of the series, however it still plays like Diablo. I am sure that when I get to sink my teeth passed King Leoric the game will only shine even more, regardless of a couple qualms I have with the artistic direction.
Just my opinion of course, and we are all entitled to our own. -
If it has a darker tone, it would be more fun and scarier imo. Add that into a mix with hardcore, oh yes~ Totally my game.
-
I'd be the guy who spent his entire barbarian life avoiding top tier
To be honest, the best uniques for the barb IMHO weren't based on the top armor tiers.
I was kinda hoping they'd be less outlandish this time.
The monk looks downright off-balance... some of those headpieces I am pretty sure he'd fall over if he so much as nodded his head.
Doesn't mean I won't play D3, although I must say the barb and monk make up the last two classes I will ever play.
I'll probably end up playing a barb eventually... at this time, I doubt I'll ever play a monk... the character concept, abilities, and overall play look forgettable at this time. -
Can't wait for this to come out be way too long of a wait!
-
After beating D2 a few times, half the fun was creating a character and using trainers to deck them out in all the gear I wanted.
Same thing with NWN.
I just can't believe they're telling us by removing choice...they're giving us more choice... -
just played beta for the first time this week. very excited! gotta keep in mind the beta is very limited/dumbed down.
I'm expecting the actual game to be a solid improvement over the content we've seen... once that first legendary item drops... plus, bliz hasn't disappointed yet -
Man... Haven't played Diablo in a while... hope ir rocks as much as the old guy
