Quite a skewed perspective when comparing the single player component of an FPS to RPGs and FPS games who have a stronger focus on multiplayer.

Well, I don't like ANY of the Souls games, so they're poor value to me at any price. Fallout 4 is not an FPS, it's a massive open world RPG-lite and I've put about 80 hours into it and finished the campaign.

Titanfall is also fun, but I've only put about 10 hours into it.

Destiny and Bloodborne are like the Souls games, no value to me because I don't have a PS4.

As for the original Doom, it's probably way less than 50 hours over the years. I don't recall playing it much if ever past 1998.

Going by your metrics, Plants vs Zombies must be Game of the Century because I've put over 300 hours into it. Dragon Age: Origins a close second at 250.

Or, you could compare it to it's contemporaries. CoD BO3 is rated as having 8 hours for full completion. I finished Advanced Warfare (and have no desire to go back to it) on Xbox One in FIVE HOURS. Battlefield Hardline (2015) took me about 6 hours. Wolfenstein TNO, a critically lauded success is showing 11 hours for me on Steam, and that's with going back and doing secret hunting. WolfToB is 9 hours with secret hunting.

Now, if you want an example of a game with a better value, Bioshock Infinite took me 21 hours to play, but that's including the DLC.

The number of awesome games I've played that I finished between 15-25 hours is crazy. I spent 25hrs in Wolf TNO according to Steam. I've got 9.4 hours in Doom so far because I started over after finishing a quite a few levels because I mistakenly passed up one of the upgrade bots thinking I was replacing my upgrade not adding a new one I could switch between. Still having a blast (stopped playing to finish Witcher 3 hearts of stone then I'll do Blood and Wine). I can see myself replaying doom again after I finish it. I'm sure I'll get at least 30-40 hours before I'm done.

I agree. You can't compare it to Skyrim, DA, Witcher, or other RPG centric games. Looking at the FPS games in my library I've played so far that I loved, including bioshock and dishonored in those, it looks like I'll get about equal play time. I was having a ton of fun playing it so I'm not really to worried about raw hours I'll get, but it looks like it'll be plenty.

One thing I was a little upset about was that the season pass appears to be multiplayer only content. I hope they do an SP expansion or episode down the road. I have no interest in MP. I would grab the season pass if it had a promise of a decent amount of SP content.

    Poor ADHD generation...

All gamers should require more than 11 hours of gameplay for $60.
(or we are just going to get more and more CoD clones, other crappy ADHD titles, and more CoDites)
It does not matter how it does it, but as a general rule if you are going to spend $60, you should get 60 hours from it (or close).

Anything else is a rip-off or your attention span failing. (both of which you should endeavor to fix)
11 hours isn't even a week of 2-hour gaming sessions.

Note please, that with a little bit of work, Doom 2016 should have been a lot better for entertainment value. Beta testers told them the multiplayer sucked and that they only needed to fix some of the larger problems to make it a worthwhile. They simply released it as is with the short single player and DoA multiplayer.

A reminder that the original Doom was both a single and multiplayer game.

SJW is a pejorative term for people who critique or raise concerns about tropes regarding, or treatment of, women and minorities in video games. It has nothing to do with the Christian right who might be offended by demonic imagery.

First of all, I haven't paid $60 for a new release in years. Be a member of Amazon Prime, Best Buy Gamer's Club, and/or be a judicious shopper, and you will always save at least 20% off the top. The former two options are paid, but depending on how many games you buy and for what platform, you can end up saving far more than you put in.

Second, if you're going to bring up Call of Duty, most people who buy it do so for the multiplayer - same as Titanfall. Heck, based on that criteria, CoD is the better value because you get both a single and multiplayer component.

Bottom line - your opinion on what a game is worth is fine for you, but it means absolutely zero to anyone else.

Wow. ADHD Generation? I'm 34. I already told you I'm going to put in 30 hours or more into DOOM, but I guess that doesn't count because it didn't ship with a 300 hour long single player campaign. I don't know what you wanted from DOOM. It's literally a demon shooting gallery.

I think you just don't like the game, and that's fine. But, you need to take your opinion and leave. Nothing you have said has enriched the thread.

Edit: Oh, and IIRC, Doom II was about 3 hours of single player content (I'm not a fan of MP, therefore it's rather irrevelent in the entertainment value/$ calculation).

If all that matters is how long a game takes to complete, Final Fantasy 1 was ten times as good as Shadow of the Colossus. Does ANYONE think that's true?

Lol talking about the length of Doom. I can finish Doom 1 in around 8 from start till end all 3 episodes.

The singleplayer had the right lenght. Just adding more content would become a drag if they didnt add new mechanics.

Also it is popular to bass the MP of Doom but as an online shooter fanatic I found it to be quite entertaining. Now put a total of 45 hours in Doom, SP & multiplayer combined.

It would have been more if it wasnt for Overwatch and the The WItcher 3 expansion.

Yet certain members from either side can be offended for different and equally baseless or irrational reasons, and demand that their particular orthodoxy and sensibilities be honoured with respect to the offending content. Yes, I'm quite familiar with the lexicon, and even terms like 'Christian Right' have their pejorative utilities. My confusion arises from the implied assertion (and I could be misreading your comment here) that certain 'people who critique or raise concerns about tropes, etc.,' somehow have an innate ability to not get carried away with their ideological lens and biases in a manner that someone with stringent religious convictions -- also an ideological framework/lens and bias for moral critique -- can when it comes to seeking out and demanding amends for objectionable material.

On that note, DOOM (2016) has been on the receiving end of such protests from offended parties, be it the Satanic symbolism grating the obsessively religious, or the heavy veneer of unapologetic violence and chaos rubbing up those who are a bit too absorbed in their sensibilities.

If I were to say that Canadians aren't Mexicans even though they're both from adjacent to the USA, that's not casting judgment on either. That's just clarifying that they're not remotely the same.

There are rational "SJWs" and irrational "SJWs," and rational Christian conservatives and irrational Christian conservatives. Both may offer ideology-based critiques of media. But that doesn't mean "Christian conservatives" and "SJWs" are interchangeable terms or identical scenes. People complaining about demonic imagery in Doom are Christian conservatives, not social progressives. I'm not casting judgment, positive or negative, on either group in pointing out that difference.

If anyone is interested, I tried out the demo and it ran better than expected. The y410p is long in the tooth at this point, but I can manage to run DOOM at 900p, mid/high settings and stay over 30FPS. I can get a solid 60 if I cut the resolution scale in half. I might make a post about gaming on such a anemic machine in 2016, but I need either more demos or more new games lol.

Well what can I say, judging by demo this game is really awesome. Gonna grab it as soon as come back from abroad...in October...

    Some demo impressions:
You pick up a pistol after 0,5 seconds into the game, after 30 seconds you already rock a shotgun (very smart decision to give a shotty almost as soon as the game starts). If the plot tries to get in the way between you and shooting demons, Doomguy gets very angry and smashes some stuff around him. Couldn't agree more with his reaction!
Melee finishers are awesome, especially with equipped shotty. You shoot at the demon while running up to him, and once next to him, you shove a fist up his bottom. Noice!
Demo map was also good, it doesn't feel like a corridor. Fights feel very dynamic, because you move fast (unlike in some other FPSes, where it feels like PC has shat his pants), can jump more than 5 cm up, and climb stuff around you. Mick Gordon's tracks also complement the gameplay very well.
Really liked jumping down from above with charged grenade mod on shotty. While in the air, shoot the shooty 'nade at a group of demons, then throw another elswhere. Run around and jump like an idiot shooting at enemy, and performing some melee finishers.YEAAAAAAAASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!

All in all, a worthy game.

Absolutely. It's refreshing to have such a crisp graphic quality and smooth performance, combined with that overwhelming sense of gratification that goes along with being a demon-slaying terror. Killing them by shooting them would be fun enough all by itself, but the way you get to mess them up so bad through melee attacks is even more fun. This game is the perfect way to vent your pent-up frustrations after a bad day at work, LOL.

Yes, except repeat this same thing for the next ten or so hours of gameplay. I'm not saying that running around like a madman shooting monsters and ripping off their heads or their arms and smacking them upside the head with it is not fun. It is. Just the kind of game you need to take in small doses. Reminds me of Serious Sam and Painkiller

Holy cow, it must be super optimized, runs great at 4k ultra on a 980 and looks great too. I wonder what the chances it comes out on GoG? I have bought several of my games twice now because I didn't wait until the GoG release.

So you're saying Witcher 3 is the same all the way through?

Uhm, there's not much other way to play Doom.

I don't know why people take offense to what I'm saying. It is what it is. Good, bad, or indifferent, that's the gameplay. It's not a mind bender or an open world game or stealth game or one that you can gingerly take your time through. It's a run and gun and blast until you drop kind of game.

Pretty much. All 400 hours I spent in it. And I loved every minute of it!
Being repetitive doesn't mean being bad, as long as the game can deliver enjoyment from the process.

That wasn't taking offense. That was saying that you know what works best for you and I respect your opinion.

And maybe it's not the eye opener or something, but at least in a see of mediocre modern day FPSes, games like Doom, WTNO, Shadow Warrior, etc. are like a a breath of fresh air.
You, obviously, might have another opinion, and that's perfectly fine.

It's almost like a great Italian restaurant that doesn't have much on the menu. Sure, spaghetti and meatballs is a simple affair. But when the meatballs are just right, the sauce is fresh and well made, and the pasta is cooked just right, that simple dish is the best thing ever.

What? Is Mario actually the Doom Marine?

And I'm not saying it's bad either. Just it's a bit lather rinse repeat kind of gameplay. Satisfying for sure especially from the get go. I like how you get right in the action without a lot of BS, and agree that eliminating reloading is the best thing ever. I only hope they fix the dev console deleting your saved game glitch. Happened to me, so not too happy with going back and starting over even though I didn't get real far.

I'll probably end up playing it more than once, replaying sounds good to me. :)

I downloaded the demo and all I get is:

    -Bethesda splash screen
    -Senitivity warning
    -some sort of percentage thing
-Finally black screen with percentage bar on upper right of monitor at 00% in a red circle.

    Any help??

Debugging game installs isn't the purpose of this forum. You can do that best at the support site for the game / service.

Do you have any experience debugging Steam games? Usually you can go to the community forum for the game and read up on the most common problems and how to debug them. Check out the discussion and guide sections, sometimes there is a debugging or support section too where you can find stickies with summaries of the most often found / fixed problems.

I would first start with Verifying the Game Cache of the Steam game that is giving you problems. That's usually where you get the quickest fix for install problems. Some part didn't download or install correctly, typically.

If that doesn't help, then refer to the support forums for the game.

Errr, I thought I would post a Doom problem here since this is a Doom thread. I guess if I had an inane video, or other useless comment this would be the place. I'll go sleek away for my insolence.

You don't see the density of assistance here for game support as on the actual game support site.

Having fun, sharing tips, or info that all can benefit from fits nicely here. Long back and forth debugging sessions are best left for the product support forum on the product sites.

Anyone else that wants to help you out here can certainly do so, I was only trying to help you get what you needed quickly.

Your inane contributions are welcome :)

After playing the demo and loving it I really want to get it. I know I can get it for around $40 on various sites, that's not the issue. The issue is I already have probably 200 games in my backlog, and probably 50 of them I am really anxious to play. Just not enough time...
