having a 8600m GT in my notebook, should I install these drivers? I'm fairly satisfied so far with 174.93 and because of that I'm hesitant about upgrading drivers.

    CSS Bench all settings Max...

    0AA/0AF
    179.13: 172fps
    180.70: 173fps (+1)
    Dox 180.70: 173fps (+1)

    16xAA/16xAF
    179.13: 42fps
    180.70: 46fps (+4)
    Dox 180.70: 58fps (+16!)

Crysis performance (no I dont have actual fps numbers), 180.70 played well on settings that made 179.13 have issues, Dox's 180.70 perform very similar to the originals but with much less fps dips in intense situations.

hm I have an m50vm and before trying to upgrade the driver I was using dox's 180.44...however this time after I ran the installer and restarted it said "custom 170.80 driver" which is confusion.

Question to DOX: Out of the 3 modified infs you've prepared do you have specific recommendations for particular driver packages for the different Nvidia GPUs? The 180 series and 178.24 strike me as geared more towards the Nvidia 9 series.

I havent geared anything to any specific gpu as such.
I give same tweaks to all gpus.

The actuall hard code of the drivers themselves (180.xx) were originally designed for 8-9 series gpus so thats why MOBILE 8-9 series maybe better with the original driver.

But 178.24 supported 7 series from its original code so thats why it may be better for 7 series.

I recommend you choose 180.70 if you want the "latest" driver or just stick to 178.24 if you take into account what i said.

oh and not all my tweaks are done in the inf nowawdays :)

Thanks for the reply, I'm not actually using your version of the 178.24 right now so if I wanted to change do I just go to your release thread and download the entire package from there?

yes you can download it from there.
178.24 does not have the installer package like 180.44/70
also download version 1.1 for powermizer enabled again :D

all my downloads can be found at filefront: http://hosted.filefront.com/DoxLV2Go

since 180.44 downloads are hosted at laptopvideo2go and mirrored at filefront.
Laptopvideo2go links are postd at my release threads

I think the 180 series drivers work pretty well. May have some bugs unlike the few with 178.24, but its faster. Probably because it's more optimized for newer games like Far Cry 2.

the 180 drivers are originally made for geforce 8, 9 and 200 series.

So it might not give the best results in 6 and 7 series because of the GPU architecture.

They are much better for the new games and DX10 performance and for VISA.

At my PC i had some stability issues with 180.44 but with 180.70 everything is OK so far.

    In some cases it does.

The drivers will work but not good. Yes the newer the better they should be.

Well might it depend on the model of the GPU processor as well? Not all models are built in the same way exactly. Some are very far apart in design, architecture, the instructions, and the memory addressing.

Yeah, just try the drivers out.

Not all of them will work best for everyone.

This puzzles me. Why do people find some drivers better than others when others may find it the best ever. Isnt higher fps and higher min fps better as well. What are people looking for in them.

Ah well...Im to tired to think straight. Going back to sleep.

These drivers work great in newer games, but I'm having some trouble in "legacy" games (i.e. GTA San Andreas and Vice City, less demanding games like Audiosurf). When I install Dox's 180.70 drivers (upgrading from xfastest's 177.85), my average fps in games like these drops from around 70 to 40. I know he doesn't shoot for the highest fps in each game, but a difference of 30-40 fps is huge for me. I'm using a 9800M GTS on a Gateway P-7811. For the record, xfastest's (see here --> h ttp://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=265740) 180.70 drivers are giving me this same problem.

Is anyone else here having problems with the entire 180.xx series of drivers on a Dell laptop w/ 8400M GS? Every driver since, I believe 179.13 I've had this problem where after installing the fan goes berserk. It's kind of a repetitive on, off, on, off sequence, where it's at full blast for 2 seconds, then off for 1 second, then full blast again, then off, etc. Anyone know what might be causing this? I'm stuck at 178.24 right now.

First, Dox, beautiful driver! Far Cry 2 looks great!

Second, some have mentioned that the 180.xx series are geared more for the 8 and 9 series cards. Well, I have a 7950 GTX in a Sager 5760 and I continue to have problems coming out of standby where the screen flickers on and off. Could the fact that 180s are geared towards the 8 and 9s?

Dox, you mentioned in your release notes that you tweaked the driver to fix this, but it continues for me. Do you have any suggestions?

OK, so I got these drivers working through a BIOS update which stopped the fan on/off situation. At first it seemed like a nice driver, slightly higher GPU temperatures but better performance in COD5, Halo, more or less the same with FC2. HOWEVER, the moment I went to test NBA 2K9 my whole screen artifacted to hell with grid-like rectangular shapes and various static and colours. That did it for me, back to 178.24.

Yes, I used to have the same problem but i haven't seen that since i moved to 180.70. I had that problem in CRYSIS and COD4 crashed all the time while i was at 180.44. The artifact problem was also at 180.43 so i guess its a driver bug that must be fixed.

When i have this problem i just go at lower res and everything is OK.

Nice to hear the BIOS update fixed your fan problem.

Hey DOX I was wondering if you could clear up something for me. I have always uninstalled my drivers then restarted into safe mode and done driver sweeper then restarted and installed the new ones. It is getting to be a pain in the , but I do it anyways. How would you recommend I install the drivers? Straight over or uninstall then install or the long route I always take...

    Always uinstall your drivers.

if you using any other driver other than mine for the first time then clean uninstall in safe mode etc.

If you are updating from mine to a new version of mine, just uninstall normally without going into safe mode and using driver sweeper.

this is because i remove the bloat from drivers and some fragments of the other unmodded full fat drivers may have traces behind which confilcts with what i do.

    Mixed results here. :/

COD4 definitely took a hit. L4D seems more fluid now. rFactor also seems a bit more fluid in graphic-intensive tracks. Medieval II Total War seems the same.

Oh well, that's what I get for not following "if it isn't broken, don't fix it" :/

not sure if i understand you correctly....

example: you play a game and then end the game. do you drivers drop from their original speed to the lower 3d clocks... immediately or do they just stay the same
