It's rare it'll do 3.5; you'd need to be using 2 cores heavily and ignoring the other 2 cores (and hyperthreads) for 3.5. Single-threaded apps are much more common than dual-threaded apps which won't split the load across 4 cores (it's why dual cores hit 100% easily but quadcores rarely cross 50%)

If I see a red skull overlaid above a demon does it mean they require my party to be of a higher level in order to defeat? I came across a rift that had this and I kept dying so I am guessing it's the case but would like to know for sure.

    Currently level 7.

Yep. I forget how it goes but white = around same level but red = dead. You talking about those couple of rifts in the Hinterlands? Yeah - I had to come back when I was around 10-12 or so to finish them.

For the people who aspire to reach the 30fps stables, in all situation, with ultra settings, i have a tip that allways help me to gain stability (most especially with cpu dependece games, like this one).

What i do is set the laptop screen at 30hz (or the number you think is the minimal fps you are reaching and you´ll tolerate), and later, choose mi new resolution at 30hz in the game settings. This will cap the game at 30fps
With this "trick" i allways get less oscillations frames drops, and much less stutterings issues than limiting frame rate by Nvidia inspector i.e.

    I have a 680m OC and an obsolete i7 920xm at 3´3ghz x4 cores, ( plus 8 gb ram)
My settings are Ultra in every feature except : Msaa (that is off), and shadows in High.
And i am speaking to ensure in ALL situations like towns and stressing scenes, because the game is much less demanding In the majority of the cases :(

I play at 1600x900 ok, but i think that , with a newer CPU (mostly this) & GPU, 30fps stables is a very affordable target :)

I hope you find these tips helpful :)

(And sorry for my english, i´m not native of course heh)

strange, i am seeing some of the CPU cores go into the 80 deg C range just in the main menus but in game it goes into the 70s.

The menus are uncapped with no VSYNC so go right into the 200-300fps range.

You aren't able to get steady 60fps with OC 680M @900p, even reducing some of the settings? Is this game that much more demanding than BF4?

I quickly gave up on 60fps. It simply isn't feasible on a 780M, unless you turn the settings way, way down. I cap mine at 35fps and have turned down a couple of the most demanding settings. I think the 980M should run this title fully maxed out at 40-50fps, judging by my 780M's performance.

I'm also following cakefish and playing it at 30fps with a 360 controller. The scary to thing is the cpu temps at the menu.

I know some mentioned the tactical menu is missing certain features that were included in DA2 and DAO, but it seems like it would still be even harder to use tactical menu with controller.

(At least if you play the way I did for DA2 and DAO, disabling all the AI tactics and micromanaging every party member action.)

I don't think it is as bad with a controller, the keyboard and mouse controls are terrible.

This game is horribly optimised and has a few bugs like the party banter glitch that have a pretty negative impact on the experience. Really regret buying this at release (even though I got it for only €35), but I'm going to wait for most of these issues to be fixed before diving into it properly. A real pity :( Seems like a great game, but I am sooooo tired of big releases needing at least 1 or 2 months of patching to get to where they SHOULD be when they come out. My fault for buying it on release, though.

Can you explain a bit more? I can understand maybe playing one character at a time with gamepad, letting the AI handle other party members instead, but hard to imagine how pausing and micromanaging every party member action in the tactical menu could ever be easier with gamepad than keyboard and mouse.

Horribly optimised? How so? I think it runs decently enough on my 780M. Could be better, but I don't think it deserves the adjective 'horrible'.

I suppose people were expecting similar performance to BF4, as the recommended specs are almost the same and it uses the same engine.

This is basically it here. But the real thing is that it's ok at 1080p 30fps "high", but once you cross 30fps it gets a bit hard. It was a game designed for 30 is what appears to be the case; mainly because the consoles weren't there. Even two 980s don't keep 60fps in the whole game, which is a huge problem when it drops to the 40s in SLI, because around 35fps or so is when you start getting microstutter, which is a REAL problem. If you've never experienced microstutter that you cannot fix in a game (I.E. the game is badly coded, rather than having low fps in multiGPU solutions), count yourself quite lucky. They're common in AAA titles lately apparently.

This game is good-looking, but it's not so graphically-intensive that even a desktop 980 should get only 60fps on ultra at1080p with a few bells and whistles off. There are also a lot users having really bad framerate problems over on the EA help forums that are different from benchmarks. This isn't AC:U bad, but personally I find it unacceptable. You're right that "horrible" is a bit harsh, but it's a long way from being good or OK.

Seriously? You must be referring to maxed out settings with MSAA, etc., no?

What do you reckon would be the minimum card needed for steady 60fps on low-medium settings with no AA? (All the benchmarks I've seen for this game are using Ultra settings with 2x or 4x MSAA.)

You uh... DON'T... keep 60fps in that game at 1080p with ultra. Hitting towns or various parts of the map result in extreme fluctuations in FPS, most commonly hitting users down to their 40's. There might be some performance patches now, but Totalbiscuit's port report/review showed that he had to keep 2x MSAA to run the game mostly always above 60, and he would still drop fps in towns.

MSAA is a massive resource hog in this game, don't bother with it, not worth it at all.

I find framerate is lowest in the forested areas in The Hinterlands, Storm Coast, The Fallow Mire etc. rather than in towns.

i am using a slightly modifed high settings running at 1080p30 and it's fine...and feels more stable to me.

even though it's running the same engine as BF4 i feel that BF4 runs better because it has smaller maps than DA:I and doesn't have heapsof NPCs as compared to DA:I and probably why BF4 runs better at 1080p60 than DA:I at 1080p30.

Sooo the game is running OK for the rest of you ? No texture problems ?

For me SLI or no SLI the game has random vibrating textures, flickering, etc. but with world texture only (mostly mountains and the ground). Trees and char. textures are not affected. Also the fog is like taping a blank paper on the screen and trying to play. Dont know if and when will there be a fix for that as my GPU-s run cool 70-80c.

Other then that the story is kind of OK. Just got to the part were time travel takes place (for me a moment).

Most people on the forum don't have crossfire AMD cards anymore. You might be waiting a little while for your answer. You can, however, look for a description of 7870 crossfire and subtract about 20% performance from that for stock 7970M crossfire
