It's rare it'll do 3.5; you'd need to be using 2 cores heavily and ignoring the other 2 cores (and hyperthreads) for 3.5. Single-threaded apps are much more common than dual-threaded apps which won't split the load across 4 cores (it's why dual cores hit 100% easily but quadcores rarely cross 50%)

If I see a red skull overlaid above a demon does it mean they require my party to be of a higher level in order to defeat? I came across a rift that had this and I kept dying so I am guessing it's the case but would like to know for sure.
Currently level 7. -

D2 Ultima, moviemarketing and MorejaSparda like this. -
For the people who aspire to reach the 30fps stables, in all situation, with ultra settings, i have a tip that allways help me to gain stability (most especially with cpu dependece games, like this one).
What i do is set the laptop screen at 30hz (or the number you think is the minimal fps you are reaching and you´ll tolerate), and later, choose mi new resolution at 30hz in the game settings. This will cap the game at 30fps
With this "trick" i allways get less oscillations frames drops, and much less stutterings issues than limiting frame rate by Nvidia inspector i.e.
I have a 680m OC and an obsolete i7 920xm at 3´3ghz x4 cores, ( plus 8 gb ram)
My settings are Ultra in every feature except : Msaa (that is off), and shadows in High.
And i am speaking to ensure in ALL situations like towns and stressing scenes, because the game is much less demanding In the majority of the cases
I play at 1600x900 ok, but i think that , with a newer CPU (mostly this) & GPU, 30fps stables is a very affordable target
I hope you find these tips helpful
(And sorry for my english, i´m not native of course heh)Last edited: Dec 2, 2014 -

does this game run better on windows 8.1 like battlefield 4?does it use direct x 11.2???
-
strange, i am seeing some of the CPU cores go into the 80 deg C range just in the main menus but in game it goes into the 70s.

I quickly gave up on 60fps. It simply isn't feasible on a 780M, unless you turn the settings way, way down. I cap mine at 35fps and have turned down a couple of the most demanding settings. I think the 980M should run this title fully maxed out at 40-50fps, judging by my 780M's performance.
-
I'm also following cakefish and playing it at 30fps with a 360 controller. The scary to thing is the cpu temps at the menu.

(At least if you play the way I did for DA2 and DAO, disabling all the AI tactics and micromanaging every party member action.) -
-
This game is horribly optimised and has a few bugs like the party banter glitch that have a pretty negative impact on the experience. Really regret buying this at release (even though I got it for only €35), but I'm going to wait for most of these issues to be fixed before diving into it properly. A real pity
Seems like a great game, but I am sooooo tired of big releases needing at least 1 or 2 months of patching to get to where they SHOULD be when they come out. My fault for buying it on release, though.
-
that's the thing: you're essentially paying to be a beta tester!

God, I wish I could disagree with you, but I really can't :'( I hate what is happening to this industry at times.

Horribly optimised? How so? I think it runs decently enough on my 780M. Could be better, but I don't think it deserves the adjective 'horrible'.

What do you reckon would be the minimum card needed for steady 60fps on low-medium settings with no AA? (All the benchmarks I've seen for this game are using Ultra settings with 2x or 4x MSAA.)Last edited: Dec 8, 2014 -

MSAA is a massive resource hog in this game, don't bother with it, not worth it at all.
I find framerate is lowest in the forested areas in The Hinterlands, Storm Coast, The Fallow Mire etc. rather than in towns.

i am using a slightly modifed high settings running at 1080p30 and it's fine...and feels more stable to me.
even though it's running the same engine as BF4 i feel that BF4 runs better because it has smaller maps than DA:I and doesn't have heapsof NPCs as compared to DA:I and probably why BF4 runs better at 1080p60 than DA:I at 1080p30.Cakefish likes this. -
Sooo the game is running OK for the rest of you ? No texture problems ?
For me SLI or no SLI the game has random vibrating textures, flickering, etc. but with world texture only (mostly mountains and the ground). Trees and char. textures are not affected. Also the fog is like taping a blank paper on the screen and trying to play. Dont know if and when will there be a fix for that as my GPU-s run cool 70-80c.
Other then that the story is kind of OK. Just got to the part were time travel takes place (for me a moment). -
Patch 2 releases today:

Well lets hope it fixes most of the problems.....and speak of the devil upgraded Cassandras armor and now her hands are not attached to her body....there is a gap. In the inventory i can see that there should be metal there but in game there is nothing.

Guys, can you tell me what your average FPS for 7970m Dual Crossfire please???

I hear the patch broke a lot of graphical settings, probably not going to update it for a little a while to see if they have any hotfixes.
-
Performance definitely has improved. I'm turning up a couple of graphics settings. Looks like a good patch

anyone tried this workaround?

Amm did they update the char textures ?
My char now looks like she should be in a retirement home ....she looks ooooold. Wrinkles and all.
So far no flicker and the game runs a bit smoother for me. -

Will try the fix. Lets just hope that the patch did not mess anything more up.
Edit: Just hit me....maybe it is a side effect of the time travel ?.....but for only some of us .....and now we only have a limited time to finish the game or else we die... dan dan daaaaa -
Actually, now you all mention it, I'm sure my character's hair wasn't that shiny before...
Or maybe it's just my mind playing tricks because now I'm expecting bugs from the patch. Not sure.

Well, I updated it anyway and I can play on Ultra w/ FXAA and I get around 34/35 avg fps on a 680M 4gig but holy smokes is my hair shiny.

boo! post patch 2 + hotfix the game crashed to desktop twice
temps are fine, mild oc, clocks not reset, and no warning either.
EDIT: who's their choice for romantic relationships? i picked casandra just because one can in a game like this!Last edited: Dec 11, 2014 -
Cassandra is not an option for my female inquisitor. Blackwall seems to be the man for her. Either him or Cullen.
