Same here. I bought it launch day too, and do the same, take a month or two break periodically but always come back. It's good that they're including the add-on maps, because there were never many running servers for them, even though the new maps and units were fun. I especially like the small chopper. Easy to get around, especially as a mechanic, you can quickly zip in and repair tanks and other vehicles, then lay low for a bit.
They might as well include Special Forces too at this point. That is a fun expansion too, but again, so few play it.
-
I loved Special Forces, yet just months after I purchased it (launch), it was already practically dead.
C'mon... who didn't enjoy a good zip-line over a dark map? -
I only hope that they don't consolize Battlefield 3. I really would like to see BF2 but improved upon with graphics, destructive environments, improved weapon realism (machine gun can't kill someone from 300 yards away while running with one shot).
Fortunately I think the Battlefield series is very successful on PC that they hopefully won't change the formula too much for the worse. -

I'm a launch day player too!
I downloaded the demo when it first came out and was so impressed I bought it the second it came out. It's the only game that I go back to week after week.
As htwingnut said, I'd be happy if BF3 was just an improvement over the current version, nothing radically different. -
I'm in shock from anticipation. I left long ago when their patches only served to further break the game engine (when a direct anti-tank rocket only does splash damage to a human target, it's time to uninstall), and the game became flooded with grenade spammers, but if they're taking steps to fix the BS it may be worth another try.
-
It was the only expansion I purchased, so at least EA's not giving it away for free... yet... -
If EA were smart, and usually marketing-wise they're at least greedy, they would release a "Platinum Edition" or whatever that included BF2 with patch 1.5 and SF for $10. It would be ideal if SF was just a free add-on so more people would play it though. And with probably a year or so of life left, best to do it now. I'd hate to see SF go bye-bye with so little play time when BF3 comes out.
-
well the only issue with bf2 is nade spamming....fix that it would be epic!

Is there a good guess as to when BF3 is slated to drop?

A pitty I sold Battlefield 2 a while back. I just got frustrated at no widescreen support and having to stretch 4:3 out to fill my screen. The including of the booster packs is also frustrating, since I actually bought them. So I paid NZ$30 that I may well be able to get for free now, although it should mean those maps actually get played by a decent number of people now.

This is the most excited I've been about PC gaming in years. Tomorrow will be a great day.
