I had to set BF2 to run as an admin and also in Windows XP compatibility mode to be able to get the widescreen resolution setting to stick.

I just installed my combo pack(bf2+special forces), applied the patch but the game doesn't even want to launch... I just get a black screen then back to desktop. Even running in compatibility mode and admin mode doesn't make the game start. Any pointer to a solution?
-
@Ayle:
Uninstall everything, booster packs first, then main BF2, delete game folders and registries. Reboot.
Install BF2 again, this time, just install BF2, not the booster packs. You can choose what to install in "Custom" option.
Reboot computer after DirectX is installed.
Then go to the game DVD directory and find the v1.41 patch, install it. Then proceed on installing v1.5 patch. No need to apply compatibility mode or run in Admin mode. -

I keep getting this retarded punkbuster error, says go to evenbalance or something to upgrade punkbuster manually but Idk how.
-
Yea I know the fix, you need to download punkbusters manual update tool (learned over the course of CoD4, CoD5, BF2, BF2 SF, BF2142...
) Ill post the link as soon as my damn internet starts "un-snailing*"
The file is called PBSetup.
Because I am such a nice guy:
For Windows : DOWNLOAD: WINDOWS 32 and 64 Bit
For Linux : DOWNLOAD: LINUX 32 BIT and DOWNLOAD: LINUX 64 BIT
For Mac : DOWNLOAD: MAC OSX
---
*un-snailing refers to the "Ultra Highspeed" cable internet becoming fast again, instead of being beaten (in terms of speed) by a 56k modem. -
-
Or you can just download this program and it will auto update any game that uses punkbuster:

I'm going to apologize on the front end...I'm lazy and didn't want to read/search this entire thread...
Does the 1.50 patch includes both the 'Special Forces' and 'Armored Fury' expansion packs?
I had BF2 and Special Forces installed prior to patching...and I had two shortcuts...one for each...the one for Special Forces looks like this...
C:\Games\BF\BF2\BF2.exe +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +modPath mods/xpack +ignoreAsserts 1
And when I use it, I get a different intro movie (jet skis and RHIBs), different maps and different weapon packs...
After installing the 1.50 patch (which gave me no problems and widescreen resolutions as advertised), I'm not seeing the 'Blue Pearl' map among others when I click my original BF2 shortcut (just the BF2.exe with no switches after it)...
If the 'Armored Fury' expansion pack was included in the 1.50 patch, do I need to add some more switches to my shortcut to see features/maps added by 'Armored Fury'?
Thanks and sorry for the laziness... -
It includes Armored Fury and Euro Force booster packs.
You shouldn't need to add any more switches either. I booted up and played them all just fine. I'll check again and see if they exist! -
To change the refresh rate and make it start properly you have to edit it in the video setting in the BF2 folder in your documents. I always have to change it to 63hz.
-
I, of course, didn't read any of the readme instructions prior to installing the patch...the installation went smoothly with no errors, and I can now select widescreen resolutions on my laptop...so I think the patch is there...
However, of the new maps in the readme (Wake Island 2007, Road to Jalabad (?), Operation Blue Pearl, etc), only Road to ??? shows up on my map selection list (single player)...are those multiplayer only maps?
When I use the 'Special Forces' shortcut, an entirely different set of maps shows up in single player with none of the new ones... -
I got excited when I read this. Then I tried to download the patch and it timed out.
I like how EA releases a patch but doesn't offer it for download. Yet another instance of EA sucking. It was bad enough they didn't support widescreen for 4 years, had the cd check in addition to online accounts, etc... Now they won't even give us the patch. -

Got tired of slow downloads so I found it on Usenet. For some reason the patch on Usenet is 2.2gb.
-
Also, I read on wikipedia what the two booster packs added, and that's available to me...
Everything worked fine...shame on me for not checking multiplayer out on a game primarily focused on multiplayer... -

Now I know why they gave us AF and EF for free. They suck. Then again, I really can't complain since I didn't buy them.

Strange.. I ran the test again and PnkBstrB.exe is running. Checked the services manager again and it shows up.
Edit: Of course I still get the kick and popup saying "punkbuster service communication failure" -
