i wonder if you could ever max out the skill trees?
-
Yes, you can. If you look at the bottom of each tree, it'll require a huge rank, and that's your max. I have agility and power maxed, and I'm 2 levels under the max for survivor rank.
I have yet to pass 60% story. -
Wth is that? What kind of weapon is this? A flamethrower?
-
cool! i am only sitting on 15% story completion because i am just running around parkouring up my stats and doing side missions.
hell hath no fury when you have a bazillion medkits
EDIT: has anyone done the quarantine zones yet? i've done 2 out of the 8 and they were both hard difficulty (as in the game set the difficulty to hard) but after dying a few times i managed to complete both.Last edited: Feb 16, 2015 -
I... attached a flamethrower and some poison to a sword. =D.TomJGX and Mr Najsman like this.
-
did you grab the EXPcaliber? LOL
-
I`m getting pretty pissed at all the random encounters where you have full health and BAM, suddenly you insta-died without even knowing why
I havent discovered any quarantine zones yet and Ive been all over town (I thought). -
there's one in the market near where you talk to Alexei and another was in a tunnel somewhere (yeah i know that ain't helping). they're mostly you trying to fight your way through zombies (duh) to collect 5 DROPs which you can take back to the quartermaster. it should show on the map as a red biohazard symbol though when i find a quarantine zone i usually complete it anyway cos i am stocked with heaps of medkits.
-
Interesting. Will keep an eye out for the biohazard symbol.
Have you tried collecting flags from the towers though? Pretty well made game I have to say. I get dizzy just by climbing them in the game
-
actually sorry, you have to discover it first before it shows the biohazard symbol on the map. i ran into the quarantine zones by sheer luck.Cloudfire likes this.

I did. It sucks. It's strong early-game, but you can only swing it 7 times. On the plus side, a charged swing even with a broken EXPCalibur still tears zombies in half; I think it's the sword itself. But you get no exp for killing with it when it's broken.
Those are the boomers. They walk up and blow themselves up and if you're even halfway close you'll just die. I hate them; they have a tendency to appear in challenges and in places you've already cleared out and a whole set of other crap. It's really annoying. My one gripe with the game. "Oh hay you were going real well with this story right? You boarded this place up... killed all the zombies... lemme just spawn here turn a corner and instantly explode and kill you... yeah... mmm them survivor points you just lost... yumm...Cloudfire likes this. -
haha exactly. Thats how I feel too. Full health and lots of medkits. Blackout. WTF just happened. Then you have to walk all the way back again :/
-
i dislike being penalized for dying. the points deduction is really annoying.
EDIT: I've just been doing side quests just to kill time before i do the next story mission.Last edited: Feb 16, 2015 -
I love the penalty for dying. It makes dying actually mean something. But not in quests; especially multipart quests where you get a bunch of points halfway then possibly die during the second half and lose those points.
-
then it should have permadeath!
-
Permadeath would be a bit too hardcore for a generic playerbase; especially with the boomers and the volatiles at night. If you're at 16% story you likely haven't seen them yet, but as you continue you'll realize what I mean. Even I wouldn't think that permadeath would be good there. ZombieU had a fairly nice idea of being able to find your dead self, but otherwise you'd need a way to continue the game somehow. The best way I could think of would be like State of Decay, but even that game has a story not based on a single person.
If anything, it'd have to be on a certain difficulty level the user would have to set. -
finally unlocked all the safe houses in the slums. not gonna bother with the protection side quests cos they're just annoying!

im 61% story i think..all safe houses unlocked and i found that excalibur sword haha..I had to hold F button 5minutes until he pulled it up haha...i think swords are best melee weapon cause they have good handling and i have also a weapon print for angel sword. Its a great weapon too.I think excalibur has only 7 durability(it has a weak spot i think its durability not 100% sure).Mine next goal is to kill a volatile i think i havent killed any so far!
-
which one's are the volatiles cos i think i killed one with an AR during the night while i was standing outside a safe house.
-
I have to say I'm happy reading that this thread had finally turned to talking about gameplay.
Mr Najsman likes this. -
I feel like you're new to this, because every single game thread in PC enthusiast forums is 90% performance/technical issues/bugs and 10% gameplay.
-
Nah.. I was overclocking in the early 90's, I know how that goes.. I just asked twice a while back and got crickets
octiceps likes this. -
we should have 2 game threads - one just for game chat and how to beat bosses etc. and another for technical issues and patch news. it does get a bit lost when trying to follow the thread really.
-
Then you know better than to complain. Create your own darn thread!
-
The thread says "Dying Light" not "Dying Light tech problems"
Besides I wasn't complaining, I was voicing pleasure.
-
getting kicked in the butt with the demolisher fight!
-
Well, for the gameplay side, just picked up a copy with a green man gaming coupon... hoping for a fun play through! Thanks for the feedback thus far on both fronts.
-
..... This is my sword. I kill Volatiles in 2 hits MAX. I kill demolishers in 1 hit to the head. WITH THEIR HELEMTS STILL ON.
I have also maxed my survivor rank and I can use the grappling hook 4 times before it has to recharge. Mmmm. -
Holy crap
And I was happy I just found my first +100 weapon.
-
Are you guys playing this coop with some buddies? It's infinitely more fun playing around with the zombies.
Gotta love kicking them down stairs too, never gets old.hfm likes this. -
I don't have other friends who play this regularly enough. Most others I know tho play it do so on console.
-
This is what I hate about this type of game. I'd love to play it with a friend or two of mine, but I don't think it's worth paying full price to do that. By the time it's reduced price no one cares as much about it anymore.
-
Indeed. It's an amazing game, especially if doing all the sidequests, but it has very little replayability due to a linear (and honestly short) storyline. Kind of sad.
-
i think this game will be forgotten towards the end of the year - it won't even be GOTY material.
-
Linear storyline does not mean bad. Examples: Half Life series, BioShock series, Portal 2, The Last Of Us, Alan Wake etc.
Actually, I find linear games to have more replayability than branching storylines, as with the latter there can only be one 'canon' storyline in my mind. Going back to replay the game again, choosing different paths ruins this sacred canon storyline for me. That's why I have only played through the Mass Effect series, TellTale games etc. once and have no intention in going back and nullifying my canon storylines. Sophie Shepard forever <3
The PC game I have replayed through the most is Half Life 2.
Edit: I lied, it's actually The Stanley Parable. I've replayed that one multiple times. It is the only exception, for obvious reasons.

guys have you found any ester eggs?i found excalibur and super mario ester egg so far
-
Don't get me wrong; I'm all well and good with canon storylines and "one storyline". But it does not mean it has to exactly be "linear". For example, Half Life 2 has like 12 different ways to get through its game even though you generally go through the same routes, but this is achieved due to a small selection of largely varied weapons and the ever-versatile gravity gun.
Mass Effect DOES have a "canon" storyline too, mind you. It's "Paragon Shepard" and "Liara T'Soni", even though they will change the story to suit based on your actions; the general same quest events happen for most of the story. But I understand your sentiments there, and I DO have similar sentiments.
But the problem with Dying Light's storyline is that the story missions have almost nothing to do with the spanning world, or stealth, even. There's stealth skills and such in the game, but you can never make use of it in missions much. Even if you shoot a bit and hide enemies kind of forget you exist, instead of chasing you etc, and the infinite-zombie waves are just as unbelieve-able; with enemies literally sometimes even appearing out of mid air because you're not supposed to be able to kill off the things you're meant to be running from, etc.
Now like I said, don't get me wrong; the game is fun as hell and nice to explore and just find all the random stuff to do everywhere etc, but the main story wasn't nearly the highlight of the game. I feel sorry for anyone who runs main story and then puts it down, because it has MUCH more to offer. The way that everything else goes on in life regardless of what happens to you in the main storyline? That's the real beauty of it. It's all the little things that add up, and the robust melee combat and parkour system that happens. Your character can achieve near-godlike status (believe me on that one), but it's all very... real. Instant escapes from zombies, upgrading that to a palm thrust to the ribs that stuns them... ways to finish off stunned zombies, insta-kills from behind that work without destroying the brain (because the "zombies" are still alive; just with no cognitive thought; the virus does not kill them, so dead cannot "turn" at all), etc etc. It all makes a whole lotta sense, and you just become a really adept fighter and runner and overall survivor, that would really happen for someone who spent a lot of time doing all the things you're doing. At the start of the game you tire quickly and run/climb very clumsily, which is to be expected from someone who never did it before.
Basically I'm saying the game doesn't take much advantage of all that's available to you in its missions, unlike Final Fantasy/Mass Effect/Half-Life 2/Dark Souls. And that's the sad part. Its side missions though, usually just give you an obscure objective which you can complete however you feel like. Which is awesome.Cakefish likes this. -
I found Super Mario, Plants vs Zombies, EXPCalibur, Korek Machete, a painted door opened to reveal a brick wall behind it on a wall of a bridge, a tiny star wars reference (that I had to have pointed out to me that I saw it), and I think there was this one other thing but I forget.
-
well, i grabbed a trainer to get past the pit mission cos that was being a pain in the butt to finish!
-
Oh yes, I'm not saying I prefer one or the other; I like Mass Effect just as much as BioShock.
There's a lot of hate for linear stories these days and I quickly get on the defensive, trying to remind people of the brilliance of linear games like the Half Life series (HL2 is my favourite game of all time).
But I most definitely agree, linear stories are fine - when done well, it all depends on whether the plot and characters are well developed.

I'm having a hard time starting a game from an earlier quest. As in, I have never succeeded yet.
I choose campaign and advanced, pick a quest and start. Then my latest quest is always loaded. What gives? -
I don't understand what that feature does; sorry. You could always search on places like gamefaqs (which STILL gets updated amazingly) and see what that feature is supposed to do, and if it's broken you could send them a bug report I guess.
-
We're supposed to be able to start the game at any earlier quest we wish to replay them (at least thats how I understand it).
Only way for me to do that is by joining others who are playing that very quest. -
-
Why are some people instantly kicking me out of their game. Sometimes it happens within a minute, we haven't even met yet and they have know idea how I play.
Why even set the game to public then? -
Maybe your mic is always-on?
