SPOILER: Anyone know if your conversation with Elder Lyons affects how the last mission plays out? Where you tell him about Eden giving you a virus, the Enclave being divided, their lack of an activation code, or Raven Rock getting destroyed?

To steveoccc, I did that, but once I did the Paradise Falls mission (even though I could've used speech on him) and got admitted into Lamplight, there weren't any dialogue options that worked.

i was playing fallout 1 last night and i found the Red Ryder LE BB gun...wow its waaaaay overpowered...like that gun right there

 

got a Gateway FX 6860 today...8800GTS....almost 4 times faster than my 8400GS i think....fallout looks much better on it =)

EDIT: wow..i am a convert to 17" laptops....that screen is insane compared to my 13" vostro....wowz...biggest worry i had was whether it would be uncomfortable to use on your lap in bed...and its not!! it sits great and not heavy at all especially with the battery out

also would like to say this is the first laptop with a touchpad that actually works good that ive come across...very surprised

my 7811 runs that game at 1920x1200 on full settings minus AA an AF

 

I run 1440x900, AFx16, all maxed and the lowest I have seen it drop was 55FPS, and that was when battling the behemoth. That's with the stock CPU...

 

i paid 700 for the 6860 and i got to play with it before i bought, i highly prefer that over buying on ebay..i really like it so far...funny thing is...after a while you're like "wow you know this LCD could be bigger..."

i run the desktop at 1024x640 just like my 13" vostro and its great, no more squinting

 

Question: How do i get the keys to open up the Containers At the merchant Scrapnel and Flak",at rivet city, i try to pick pocket them but they only have their room keys not the keys for the containers
where can i find the key?

Where is the best place to find bobbypins?

Such a fun game tho, i pretty much have been killing all the gaurds in Rivet city and stealing everything

i also searched everything and couldnt find it, same for Cutter's medical closet and BoS Armory among others, maybe you have to kill them? (actually i think i tried that too)

i went on a rampage in Rivet City when i found out you couldnt kill kids, everyone got lead poisoning...except the **** kids...time for the Sandman perk

 

Has anyone met a DEATHCLAW?


These things scare the absolute ****e out of me.


Any tactics for beating them? Apart from spraying their faces with a minigun, which doesn't seem to be all that effective.

Playing the game for 2 days now, and I LOVE THIS GAME!

The gun damage is lame, but kinda works for the most part, would be lame if I could just Headshot my way through the whole game. The only part about it that really bothers me, is when I shoot someone 3-4 times in the face point blank, and the still live.

But the world is huge, looks great, and keeps me interested.

I decided to be a bad guy, since I played a good guy in Bioshock, and I haven't looked back LOL.

I've been slaying and double-crossing everyone, even the homeless guys asking for water. And the Suite in the Tower is awesome, waiting till my lockpick skill is high enough, then i'm gonna rob them too.

 

He he maybe I should turn into a bad guy after all, haven´t gotten far myself, haven´t played much. But currently I am after the family. Love the game though wish I had more time, but oh man it´s hard with so many good games coming out. Now Fallout 3 and Far Cry 2 and I have to play both

lmao i went back to make a female good character and i was playiing with the female face editor....clicking randomize over and over produced a series of the ugliest female faces i have ever seen lol, nothing like the women that actually populate the fallout world, but then i realized you dont even really get to see your face so what's the point

 

Protip: Pump a bunch of points into the relevant weapons skill and you'll find the combat far more realistic.

I think that the devs went with a mixture of damage and accuracy reduction for lower wep-skill-levels rather than realistic accuracy penalties becuase shooting a hundred times at something and only getting five hits would be even more annoying...

That's just my opinion but.

 

what's lame about 1-headshot kills? are you guys serious? you find it more "real" to have to cap a guy 4 times in the head for him to go down? in real life 1 headshot takes down anyone, and i mean ANYONE

I hate those **** Deathclaws. They are pretty much genetically-engineered living weapons.


I tried to cripple their legs using the Plasma rifle but it's a tricky thing to do when there is no room to backpedal. So the dart gun will be a godsend for me, after I finish the quest to grab the schematics of course. Doing that now.

 

Well in real life people have survived more than one shot to the head, albeit it very rarely does happen

btw i love blowing off peoples head with the VATS system, it makes ownage soo much more sweeter

 

I think headshot = instant kill was not included because it is an RPG not an FPS. You are supposed to hit an enemy multiple times/ use various skills/spells in an RPG. Maybe it isn't realistic for an FPS/RPG hybrid like Fallout 3 but hey, its the devs choice. In Deus Ex they chose to make it more realistic but its a different kind of FPS/RPG. It leans towards FPS a bit more than Fallout since you can't 'Level Up' in DX although you can improve your skills.

 

If headshots were a one hit kill it would be too easy. And not everything in the world will die from a single headshot. That's also one of thier ways of preventing you from exploring out of your level range. If you could go up to something that can kill you in one/two hits, and kill it with one shot, what's the point? This game is definately an RPG first, FPS second. The game feels exactly like a post apocalyptic oblivion. It's been fun, but it has a little too much of that Oblivion feel.

There are some major design flaws in the mapping that annoy the hell out of me. I find myself pressing F5 constantly, not because I think I'm going to die, but because I keep getting stuck in places. There's been many times where I jump up onto a table and just get stuck, and can't move or get off. Other times I'll be climbing some rubble fall into a small 2ft gap, and can't get out, many times it would seem as there's well enough space to crawl under a beam or something and get unstuck, but pressing crouch doesn't actually allow you to get under things you normally couldn't standing up. There's really no point to crouch unless your trying to hide.

I'm also having a problem right now. One of my missions is in a loop, it keeps telling me to go into the sewers, then once I do, it tells me to leave, now I'm confused and have no idea where to go..

 

I think that happened to me as well, but I just made my own way through the sewers instead of following the waypoints the game set for me and I got to the destination.

I love this game, pretty fun..finally have a game I enjoy

only gripe is when I talk to the guy wearing the suit at the megaton bar..says windows stopped responding..actually it stops responding quite frequently..wonder if you guys know the most likely cause of this? direct X maybe??

Other than that I find the story interesting and the VATS system pretty ill. the ****s tight..some minor glitches here and there but then again it's a video game, and too be expected.

tried sleeping with a whore at the bar but no dice, mucheasier and funner in real life..don't recommend spending 120 caps to see a chick lie in the same bed as you in life or in a game, I think they really shoulda put in ***, after seeing the gruesome headshots with vats, I was suprised how sick these developers musta been too make the game so violent..eh still fun and looks sweet

and I still can't believe how well the 8600m gt is holding up to all these new titles in late 2008, wonder how many more years until ps4 or xbox 720 comes out..figure once they come out the newer games will defenetly run ****ty on the 8600m gt..

And where the heck is dc? once i leave the gates of megaton which direction do I head?? thanks..

nah, that was my only problem with game, but I'm saying I understand why they did it, because its more RPG than FPS.

I usually don't play on Very Easy, but it gives me a damage ratio I can live with.

Ok, i have just got the game, and i'm very surprised about the performance! playing all Max 2xaa 1440x900 with 90FPS + Inside towns and stuff, and 55+ outside! better than oblivion for me!! SLI scales like hell with it!!

 

old engine, and it shows, they did a good job with it though

 

Its an old Engine alright, but this game is one of the most intensive games this year (Graphically and Gameplay) but i think we'll need a Texture pack for the exterior of houses and bars etc.

 

i think that graphics wise its fine as it is, lets improve gameplay instead...speaking of which i dont see how anyone is doing anything since Beth didnt release an editor (not a serious problem unless they dont plan on releasing one at all...then it becomes a serious problem)

EDIT: apparently many of the tools made for Oblivion can be used, such as .BSA unpackers etc.

EDIT: lmao nothing funnier than skillfully jumping down a cliffside only to watch your party members run over the edge like the wild coyote from the roadrunner cartoon and plummet to their deaths....good times

I get 30-40 out doors in the cemetary areas and underground..fantastic performance

In the wasteland at those settings near the start and around dc i only get about 10-17 fps but thats ok because i just turn off aa

I think im addicted to the game, it has endless enemies to kill and this is the first game ive ever played where its enjoyable to kill enemies after 400 kills..crazy fun..

can't say enough, its fantastic.. great having the choice to do a side quest for coin, or simply killing everything in sight and collecting early ..kinda ruins the story line but still fun. Im still amazed how huge and detailed the game is..amazing how much work these guys put into making the game ..**** crysis **** farcry 2 those games need a new engine/story/and style that has more options..

I just put in crysis using my level 4 medium config..and it just doesnt look as good anymore after playing fallout 3..not sure why but i think its the imense detail and atmospere the game creates..

highly recommend this game too anyone..in fact I hate RPGs and i dont even like fps aside from hl 2 and cod4..farcry 2 is ok due to the performance and IQ on low..quite impressive but still just not a fun game..boring is boring..

btw anyone know how to turn off vsync im having difficulties..nothing seems to work locks at 60fps, curious how high its really going

 

i can barely squeeze out 45fps outside on my 8800GTS, that's at 1440x900 with no AA

lmao i forgot i took the bloody mess perk until the guy i was shooting with an AK exploded into gibs.. i was like ***-mate?!

EDIT: anyone else upset that you can't have an evil ending to the Canterbury Commons quest? i.e. solve the problem by slaughtering the entire town? lame

and can someone please tell me who im supposed to sell the ears to? (bad karma)

anyone notice how after you hit a certain level suddenly there are TONS of Giant Radscorpions around? i mean you cant walk 100ft without running into one...when before i didnt see a single one until i was 15hrs into the game...LAME

I need to start over. I made the mistake of doing the main quest, thinking it was like Oblivion, only to find out the game ENDS!

That was lame. I'm gonna start over and just be evil. 100%.

 

the problem with that is the game doesnt let you be 100% evil....how can i slaughter the entire town if the kids cant be killed? it really ruins it for me as an evil character, and the only reason Little Lamplight isnt Little Bloodbath

and did someone figure out how to put explosive's into someone's inventory and have them explode? can you do that?

 

In fairness, I'm sure someone will bring out a mod for that soon enough - we know that not being able to kill kids isn't hard-coded, so fingers crossed...

I'm really hoping bethesda takes the comments in the community heavilyon-borad, and comes out with a descriptions mod... What do you reckon the chances are?

 

no, but what i mean is for example the canterbury commons quest SPOILER where you have to take out one of the 2 pokemon wannabees why can't i just take out the town, that way there's no more problem of the 2 guys fighting and complete the quest that way? even if you mod in killable children you'd need to mod in that quest completion, or being able to raid Little Lamplight and enslave everyone there with Eulogy's men...that's a reasonable thing to ask as well

you could raid tribal villages along with slavers with stun guns in F2, why not here?

 

I put live grenades in peoples inventory, you have to sneak up, and use pick pocket method. Then instead of stealing something, put in a grenade.

 

Heh, planting explosives was always fun XD

 

i beat the game today, there are a few different endings aprrently, but its kinda sad/crappy tho

i kinda would have liked to lasted a few more hours longer

I just started. My only prob so far, a guy freaked out on me for no apparent reason when I first entered...whatever that town is. I hadn't done that much, but I had to restart from the vault entrance cause I hadn't saved.

 

Ya what i really hate about Fallout 3 was the "Hacking". For me atleast it wasnt really a puzzle but a random series of guesses until you got it right.
