It scales rather well actually. I can play it on Ultra High 1920x1200 with 2xAA with average 30 FPS. I'm sure most people will be able to handle it on decent settings.

Does anyone with a Asus G50 have Fallout 3, and on what settings are you able to run it with.
-
Model: Dell Inspiron 1520
GPU: Nvidia 8600m GT 256mb DDR2
GPU Driver Version: 179.13
CPU: 2.0Ghz T7300 Core 2 Duo
RAM: 2GB 667Mhz
Overclocking: None
Background Programs Running: Clean Access Agent (required network security software), Steam, ~45 miscellaneous processes from the usual vista processes to all my drivers.
For comparison purposes, I just benched CSS under the same conditions, at 1280x800 all settings maxed including reflections and shadows, no AA no AF, and got 172fps.
Preliminary Results: It auto-detected the settings to low, I scoffed at the games overcautiousness, and set it to high. I then turned off AA, AF, and toned down the shadows and water. So far it seems to be running pretty smooth but the jaggies are pretty apparent so I'm gonna try some AA now.
With 2x AA and 4x AF: Worked indoors, but when outdoors there was some stuttering.
Conclusion: Runs fairly well between medium and high, as long as AA is off and AF is pretty low. -

2008-10-28 18:13:54 - Fallout3
Frames: 5581 - Time: 145888ms - Avg: 38.255 - Min: 23 - Max: 64
On High, Objects and Items Fade cranked up. 1440*900.
Measured outside the Vault. In the Vault was 50-60 fps except when large crowds, then it was mid 30.
I am very happy. -
-
I just picked up my lunchbox today. Am about to install the game on both my lappy (sig) and custom-built quadcore desktop. Will post results after killing a few rats. -
ohhh this should do well @ 1440x900
-
So...finished the install and after quick 'nodvd' patch I am off and running with the Pip Boy! It runs smooth as silk on the lappy. I didn't see any setting options for screen res so I'm assuming the game autoruns @ native res to whatever the videocard/screen supports?
Fallout 3 has one of the best character development intros I've seen in a long, long time. I've just made it outside the vault and it's time for more adventuring!
[edit] Nevermind, I found the display res options. The default was set to 1280x800 w/ 4x AA, 8x AF. I've set the res to 1680x1050 and the game still runs fine. Even better with AA turned off. Go figure. -
-
Well, seems to be good so far! Should be no troubles then to game on my 8600mGT!
-
It doesn't seem to demanding I can probably play it on medium.
-
No1 gonna post any fps rates on the 8600M GT?
-
-
While Fallout 3 may just be the best game of 2008 I have one question:
What happened to the Groin Shot??? -
Thund3rball I dont know, I'm guessing
-
I just got it yesterday evening. 1280x800 everything maxed out, never goes under 30FPS. It even spikes to 60 inside. Loving the game!
(that's on my 9600M GT Macbook Pro with XP SP2 and latest laptopvideo2go.com drivers) -
sounds like a great game...more screenies ppl!!!!
-
XPS 1530, 8600GT DDR2, T7250, 2GB, Vista.
Running at 1280x'whatever'. Inside, all lovely. Emerging from the Vault, single digit FPS if that at all. Seriously, it reminded me of playing Oblivion on my x800GTO2, just not able to handle it.
Autodetects at "high" but gives a really poor resolution. Going to slap the res up and see how it goes and gradually start bolting on bits of detail. -
I would use the configurator from the game launcher and start with medium and your lcds native res. Go up/down from there.
-
Update your drivers (even though its DDR2, still should do fine. Also try using RivaTuner to OC a lil)
-
Since this is on the Oblivion engine, that means we can expect similar performance (maybe even better via optimization)?
-
So here is my question/problem....
Should I purchase this game on Xbox360 or for my XPS 1530 Laptop (specs below)
Which do you think it would run better on? Either on could be hooked up via hdmi cable to by lcd

Can't see your specs chidle but I always prefer playing games like Fallout on desktops/notebooks
In saying that I've played Fallout 3 now on my notebook and I like and I'd think it might be a wee bit odd on the 360 -
If I had to pick between getting it for the Xbox or the PC, I'd pick the PC, see, the modding community is probably going to pick up soon, and it's going to easier to play mods in the desktop than with the Xbox, unless the producers did the same trick they did with Oblivion, which was charging you X dollars for extra content.
-
Does anyone think I'd be able to run the game decently on a T61p? I'm able to run oblivion on almost all high settings at 1280x1024. Is F3 optimized better than oblivion was?
-
-
Does anybody know how my HD3450 will handle it? I'm dying to play this game
-
It should definitely run it. I just don't know what settings.
-
Which isn't to say I didn't clock in 200 or hours on it; it's just that for every 2 hours of play, there's 12 minutes of Vista's "Problem reporting" service jacking around once it crashes. -
On my 8600gt ddr3 laptop, the native res is 1440x900 so it should do ok, but what res would you recommend for external 1920x1200 lcd, half of it?
I've not yet received my copy of F3, but already wondering what's best. -
ive been surfing the web, and the game seems to be CPU intensive (just like Oblivion) , i'll try to get it tomorrow, since today it wasnt available at local shop
-
still waiting some screenies of the game running on 8600M GT DDR2! Or any screenies for that matter! Cheers!
-
Thanks! -
anyone knows how it will fare on my rig?
-
Seriously, some of you guys, should turn the fraps on, find the best settings for 8600gt ddr2/3 (min fps>15) and send us the config file, there's no point is us all doing the same thing over and over, f3 is not a benchamark, it's a game and with a good story line...
-
-
please would someone post some screenies! Thank You!
-

i'll get screenshots soon.
-
It performs terribly, since I can't even launch it. "Game is currently unavailable."
Friggin' Steam. -
In Steam I usually trust, but this time I've heard that the Steam version is a major pain in the rear.
-
You don't even have to launch it through steam if you did a steam install.
Just go into your installation folder (default C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\fallout 3) and run Fallout3.exe Steam wont even have to run. -
Tried that. Doesn't work.

Im running on High settings, with all advanced setting maxed out, except for the view distances (put on high, left view distances and maxxed out all other advanced settings).
Im on 1400 X 900 resolution, 4XAA and 10XAF, vertical sync on. The game runs awsome. In open world, i get 42-60 fps, usually 50+. In buildings/caves etc i get 60 all the time. However in the vault automated target system my fps drop to 18ish. Anyone else experiencing this?
Im running this game on my laptop, it has the 9800m GT -
masterchef341 The guy from The Notebook
on the 8600m gt gddr3 clocked at 525 875 I get solid fps in 1440x900, high settings, 0x aa 2x af. windows vista 64 bit 178.24 drivers.
im guessing 30-60 fps, but i don't know the console command and i dont want to use fraps. -
177.79 drivers
vista 32bit
9500m GS clocked at 715/1425/500
Medium settings with the following changes:
Resolution 1440x900
Anitaliasing x2
Object fade 5
Actor fade 10
Can't give an FPS reading, but I can tell you that it's a rate that'd be good enough for 1st person shooters like ghost recon or counterstrike.. -
I found a configuration that I think works better for the 256mb DDR2 8600m GT.
Resolution: 1024x640 (stretched with nvidia scaling)
AA: 4x
AF: 8x
Rest: Default high settings, but with shadow filtering and water sampling on low.
Average indoor framerate: 30+
Average outdoor framerate: 25
IMO the anti aliasing and anisotropic filtering more than makes up for the lower resolution, I can also have the draw distances set higher so it really improves how the outdoors areas look. For some reason it now auto-detects to high, too. -
Strange question, but I'm wondering if there's any way of improving indoor framerate?
My outdoor FR is great, but indoors, it can be sluggish (as distinct from choppy, like a delay in mouse movement rather than skipping)...
Any ideas? -

lower the max frames to render ahead.
