this thread isnt helping at all.. people just say settings and then say runs SMOOTH.. Please DEFINE SMOOTH! smooth could be 20FPS.. i see what kind of FPS you're getting in the screens Ifrin, but do you mind doing some screens In action? like while shooting? because thats what matters

After playing for about one hour (just exited Megaton), I can say that this runs pretty smooth!

I've got a 8600m GT DDR3 and my FPS never drops below 30 FPS.

My in-game settings are all set to high, only shadows to medium.
I've switched off AA and AF. The only stuttering i get is when the HDD loads something. but this will probably be gone after defragmenting the drive.

I might post some screens later :)

Alright, basically 8600m GT with 256 GDDR3 will play this very well. Point well taken.

I posted my FRAPs results and settings. Yours will be less than that.

Your rig will run it at Med/High at about 40 fps avg.

Performance is terrific even at 1920x1200 max settings on my 8800 GT (haven't checked framerates, but it's more than 25 fps for sure, all the time).

Allright 1920x1200 Ultra settings, 15xAF though no AA for me at least, not needed. We are talking a solid 55-60 fps here all the time on my XPS M1730 running outside and everywhere :)

Right, more from me. No driver update as of yet but running on High at 1440res with AA off and 2x AF.

Runs perfectly smooth, framerate seems high enough, I'd say over 30 for sure (I don't have anything to benchmark this, sorry).

Bumped into a fight outside with 4 people. Back in the Obv days, this was the real test. Basically it got a bit spikey.

Doing a defrag and am going to have a proper go tomorrow.

    Going to try this driver:

    laptopvideo2go.com/drivers/vista/178.24

(erse, cannot post a link.... I DID have over 15 posts until I forgot my password!)

I will say again, I get average 25fps outdoors, 30+ indoors with the high settings I use.

Please use the direct link images when posting pics from imageshack. You can even take the direct link and put it in the code for the thumbnail view.

Just replace the part after the first URL= with the direct link.

It just saves so much trouble for people viewing it because the link goes to a scaled image, then we have to click on the scaled image but it only blows it up to the size of the browser window, (meaning we still wont see it at it's native size unless we have a higher desktop resolution than the pic), then we have to right click and copy the image url and open it in a new window/tab to actually view it at 1440x900.

Runs sweet (though I don't know how high my standards are) on my 512MB 9500M GS, 4G RAM, 2x2.4GHz, so your GPU is better, but... is that 2.53Ghz a single core?

That would cut performance drastically, I'd imagine...

Runs on my ATI Mobile X2300. CF-52 toughbook T7300. Low settings at about 10-20 FPS. OK for walking around and using V.A.T.s but First person shooting Its too choppy and I cant hit crap. They all seem to be snipers with their handguns? I havent tried it on my desktop yet (SLI 8600GT)

    I have a T9400 centrino 2 so I don't imagine that would be a problem.
So what settings are you playing on? I'm trying to decide whether to get it on the PC or the 360.

On my t61p on high settings (res=1280x1024) i never go below 30fps indoors or out. But unrelated to my fps, the game stutters for me constantly. This makes moving around feel very sloppy and gross. I was really hoping this would have been fixed because i've had this problem with oblivion as well and its been a big pain. In all my reading up on this issue, it seems like players who experience these stutters are a minority, so i doubt this will ever be addressed by bethesda soft. Even worse, every fix i've tried seems to have had a negligible impact. I'm glad most of you can play this without problems, but is anyone else experiencing constant stuttering even when framerate is high?

wow. this game rocks so far, and I just left the underground silo :p

Performance wise on my 8600m gt, I am not sure whats going on but i was averaging 55 fps inside with everything maxed aa off at 1280x800, gpu started getting too hot with the overclock so the outdoor framerates dropped to 20fps, not sure how it will run when i boot it up in a bit, but so far im very impressed, seems like the story is a great one, and the ability to beat people with a bat when they lip you off is great. actually laughed when I beat that chicks dad to death..ha karma is a *****..

Also off topic, I tried farcry 2 out. and the graphics look pretty bland and fake compared to crysis in most respects, kinda dissapointed. However the performance was great on mostly very high/ultra high, shaders are top notch aswell compareable to crysis and the sunshafts are nice. just cant get into the game yet, the voice acting seems rushed so far and lacks and makes it hard to even listen to what they are saying. not sure as I only beat the first two missions but I hope it gets better.

    so far

fallout 3>mass effect>crysis warhead>farcry 2 in terms of overall gameplay and execution

graphics, obviously crysis will remain the king of graphics for a year or two more..I can live without the photo realistic graphics as long as the story is half decent and the gameplay is fun.

also maybe you guys could help me out.

Im looking for great games I dont own to buy as I recently got back into gaming .

    I own
    gta vc and san andreas
    mass effect
    crysis and WH
    fallout 3
    cod 4
    splinter cell double agent
    halflife 1 2 ep 1 2 LC and counterstrike 1 and 1.6

Is there any games that are worth buying left? I kinda prefer rpgs and fps..wouldnt mind a racing game if there is a good one out :p

    **** dudes..

I have the 8600m gt gddr3..not like if i had ddr2 id get 3fps more or less. I dont care what 3dmark says, it's bs..and after reading and seeing pictures of others using ddr2 versions I can honestly say I get roughly the same framerates so what does it matter what kids are saying online..like they over hype their own cards..ddr2=gddr3 Its the same card with more energy efficient power consumption, so maybe overclocking has a slight differance but it really makes no differance, like comparing a hd2600 to a 8600..pointless when they are equal in performance within 1-2 fps..

yes I'm getting nice high framerates and even at 60 fps there is a jittery stuttery effect to the graphics especially when you spin around with your first person view. I don't get this in oblivion or any of my other fps at 30 fps Cod4 multiplayer's animation is way more fluid along with my other games. Fallout 3 for some reason I have jittery graphics akin to low framerates but according to fraps it's 50 and above. Hopefully more optimized vid drivers will come out for it or Bethesda makes some sort of patch to adress the issue.

I'm planning to get a new notebook in the next week or so so I can play Fallout. Forgive me for I am new to all this stuff, but I'm planning to get a Asus G50 with a 9700M GT in it. But the Fallout website says this card is not 'supported'. What does this mean exactly? Does it simply mean that I will be able to play the game, but it probably won't be the best experience possible.

Also, there is a new version of the G50 with a 9800M GS processor in it. Should i spend the extra money, $150 more? I don't plan to play very demanding games in the future. I just want Fallout to run well.

I've never heard of Fallout until Fallout 3, and its suppose to be super crazy good and fun and stuff but I"ve got a few questions.

    1. I saw some game play on youtube and I'm confused is there a crosshair?
    2. Can you play the entire game like an FPS?
    3. If I'm more of a FPS fan would Far cry 2 suit me more?

As for your third question, do you like RPGs as well as FPS games? If yes, then Fallout 3 is your game. If you do not care for RPGs, then go for Far Cry first.

    1: yes
    2: Yes.. sortof
3: Farcry 2 is extremely fast paced if you want it to be, or slow if you want it to be, so probebly yes. Fallout 3 is mostly RPG like, basically tons of dialog, hours of just walking and exploring, finding new things, and somewhat repetitive RPG like tasks, such as kill multiple pests/beasts, go hunt something, some puzzle solving etc. Farcry 2 is mainly go here, blow this up, kill a bunch of people get chased down, blow more stuff up, catch whole villages on fire etc.

Fallout 3 is a great game, there's some serious flaws in it, but it should appeal ALOT more to RPG fans than FPS fans, luckily I like both, and fallout 3 is a pretty decent mix, but it feels like I'm playing an RPG , not an FPS.

Farcry 2 is also pretty amazing, but it should appeal to a different crowd/tasts.

Incase this wasn't answered yet, has anyone tested this on SLI or Crossfire X yet? This game runs 70% less in crossfire mode on average, so I'm just wondering how this runs on other people's comps.

I will personally assure you that a 9700m GT will work fine with Fallout 3. The results for the other 9 series cards and 8 series cards are plenty of evidence.

I only have 5920G which use only 8600m GT and a desktop PC which use 8600 GT... only able to play in medium setting, I feel so sad... :(

My desktop sports two 4870s in Crossfire and I have no problems at all running Ultra settings @ 1920x1200. I run a solid 60 fps with v-sync on...I should turn it off to see how high it goes.

I have yet to install and run it on my lappy to see how SLi works. I would install it right away if I could just stop playing it on my desktop.

So far the only problem I have experienced is the game locking up when closing it. It then has to be closed through the task manager.

Game is smooth most of the time on my 8600MGT. Sometimes the FPS drops SIGNIFICANTLY when I go to into the Wastelands, also FPS drops occasionally when the VATS cutscene displays. Other than that, game runs quite well.
