    Hopefully DLCs will be more exciting. I loved most of the ones on Fallout 3, I loved the most Operation Anchorage.

    I think so. Less damage per shot than the unique gauss rifle, but the sniper rifle fires a lot faster, making multiple targets easier to engage, is silenced, doesnt waste a lot of ammo, and the projectile travels a lot quicker, allowing the possibility of hitting distant moving targets.

    That is a long guide, however War and Peace isn't the longest book in history by a long shot ;)
    Still cool to know.

    Meh, regardless of the ending, I think I am going to have to get into the Fallout games from the start. New Vegas is the latest DLC, but there are so many releases in between that I have a long way to go >_>.

    It's not actually DLC (DownLoadable Content), it's a separate game. I would recommend trying Fallout 1 and 2, they should work just perfect on your laptop. :) Old and crappy graphics by today's standards but I totally loved it.

    i finished play through 1 last night and thought i had done just about everything with over 80 hrs....in game 2 i keep finding more places and things to do. i played fo3 over and over. some have said that nv is a bit more like the original games. i think i will go to the older games after all.

    on a side note, i am sick of games that cost a premium, look pretty, last a short time, minimal replay. nv (not always pretty and has some bugs) is well worth the price.

    I installed the Harder Hardcore Rates mod yesterday and it is a tremendous improvement over the vanilla hardcore mode.

    Here is the link: http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloa...e.php?id=34954

    It's not really about realism so much as making the game more balanced, so you actually have a little bit more reason to worry about finding food, water and sleeping. The vanilla hardcore is simply too easy, because there is so much food and water everywhere and you don't need to sleep very often.

    I went with the "Hardcore Refined Rates" and it seems to be just about the perfect adjustment for making your SLP, H20 and FOD levels climb at exactly the right pace to make the game much more enjoyable.

    In order to install, you need to copy the .esp file to your Data folder inside steamapps/common/Fallout New Vegas/ and if you are using the 4GB Exe Loader, as I was, you will need to go back to using the regular loader, go into Data Files and check the box next to "harder hardcore rates," run the game and save. When you exit and restart the game using the 4GB Loader continuing from your save, the mod will be active.

    There are two other options, "Hardcore Triple Rates" and "Hardcore Double Rates" - here is a breakdown of the SLP, H20 and FOD levels after 24 hrs with vanilla vs. the different options for this mod:

    =========================
    CHART (After 24 Hours)
    =====
    Vanilla
    =====
    ------------|-H20-|-FOD-|-SLP-|

    Double (200% Rates)

    ------------|-H20-|-FOD-|-SLP-|
    24HRs--|-576--|-216--|-96--|

    I am at almost 100 hrs and still on lvl 14, haven't made it inside any of the casinos on the strip yet, just exploring all the locations I stumble upon in the wastes, doing a few side quests and trying to figure out how to join the Legion faction. The game seems to be more complex and deeper than FO3, with lots of little bits of story that you only encounter by visiting every location, almost as massive as Oblivion. I expect it will probably be a few hundred hours before finishing the main quest.
