Likely little. Ubisoft seems to be incapable of doing a proper PC port. They can't seem to take any cues from Eidos/Square Enix who do superb ports with Deus Ex and Sleeping Dogs.

bought from ubi website yesterday and got email with key at roughly 2am this morning so will download tonight and test it out with the 680.
now me confused.com
on the ubi forum theres lots of talk from america that the game is $60 on steam but for some reason its not on the uk steam at all. no sign of it as if it had been i would of bought it from there. ive never used uplay before so lets see how easy/hard it is to download the game and get it running compared to steam and yuk origin. -
When I go to the menu then go back to the game the terrain and HUD have gone. There is just water left and I cant move or do anything. Anyone experiencing this issue? I can play it as long as I don't go to the menu.
-
Ubisoft couldn't port a game with a functioning menu?
-
I'm pretty sure it has something to do with the early release in Asia and Europe. Probably because servers are still down for us..
-
UPDATE:
Yup, I KNEW it had something to do with the servers. Just played the game offline, and bam. It works now!
The game's Anti Aliasing has the biggest impact on frames. :O -
Then turn off the AA and use SweetFX to run SMAA which isn't terrible like FXAA. But all AA is just bluring/blending anyway.
-
moviemarketing Milk Drinker
Interesting, never heard of SweetFX. What is the performance cost like? Does it slow down the frame rate a lot more than FXAA? -
First off FXAA has little to no performance impact. If it does, then the developer implemented it wrong. SMAA is the same as FXAA in that, there is little to no impact on performance. The good part about SweetFX is that it is compatible with DX10/DX11 and not just DX9. I don't know the details of how that is, but I've used it on DX11 games and the games run on DX11 with DX11 features while still benefiting from SweetFX, pretty cool stuff.
-
failwheeldrive Notebook Deity
Yeah Sweetfx is implemented in a mod I use for Crysis 2. It's better than the in-game aa
-
moviemarketing Milk Drinker
Yes, that's why I asked if SMAA slows down the frame rate. I usually prefer FXAA in most games as it has almost no frame rate cost at all and looks roughly the same as 4xMSAA.
Isn't FXAA also compatible with DX10/DX11?
Definitely willing to try SweetFX, but have you noticed any problems using this with certain AMD drivers? 12.8 is really stable for me, seemed to deliver good performance for the last couple games I played, Skyrim and Dishonored. Haven't tried Catalyst 12.10 or the beta 12.11 yet. -
Yes, I mentioned it because SweetFX is an injection similar to ENB series, but SweetFX works with D3D11 just fine, even with BF3.
Also looking at screenshots, unsurprising, Far Cry 3 looks like Far Cry 1 with Ambient Occlusion, not impressed. -
As far as I know there's no FXAA in the game.
Will definitely try out SweetFX and report back
UPDATE:
When I toggle it using the scroll lock, it's just a black screen, but when I toggle it back it will be back to normal. Hmm. -
did alienware ship you geniuses alien eyes. aa at 1080p sounds so very smart. please quit hi jacking threads hulawaffle
ps. i use 32 ssaa at 1080p and love noticing no visual change also. thats why im getting the 680m, just for aa -
I know, but for some reason there's still some Jaggies visible from my point of view..
-
Its running great @ultra for me. Stock clocks.
...tapatalk... -
glad your all playing. just got home from work and got fiasco once again with game or should i say lack of game.
got email with licence code and massive link to download manager but its broken. already got uplay loaded.
looked everywhere and all the places ive searched say i havnt got the game.
sounds like there are lots having the same problems.
back to blops2 it is then. -
Made a topic about my problem.
-
farcry 3 running so great on my 7970m stock clocks everything on ultra 1080p dx11 except mssa off average 45 fps.the lowest i saw was 33-34 fps.max temp 71 celsious!!so good game!!
-
It doesn't make this any less dumb. Lots of people will just buy it online (or already did). It makes it just incredibly annoying for people who pre-purchased it but now can't play it because of this crap. (But hey we can always reply with 1/5 reviews on sites like Amazon...)

92°C isn't healthy for a GPU is it? Because that's the temperature I'm seeing each time I run the game, recorded by GPU-Z. What's happening?
-
failwheel=jelly
farcry 3 sounds awesome so far -
Playing on stock clocks 7970M. Ultra Preset and no AA.
45 fps average
Yippeee!

<gamedir>I'm in love with this game. I hate shooters with a vengeance, as shooting for the sake of shooting is not for me, but this game...I've never seen such a quality in a game as of yet. Enemies die in convincing ways, flank me, ambush me, dangerous animals stalk me out of nowhere, and everything is so beautiful that I actually stop and stare with awe sometimes when I reach a mountain peak or a deserted ruin. It's like playing an AAA blockbuster movie. Everything oozes quality, I can't get enough of this game.
Granted, I'm swearing like a trucker everytime I die in this game, which forces me to repeat the same mission or area from scratch, and this whole Uplay nonsense really leaves a bad taste, not to mention the stability (just got a CTD), but this is for sure one of the best purchases I've ever made. This game needs to be played to be believed. Skyrim with guns doesn't even begin to describe it, as Skyrim never even reached that amount of production quality, mods or no.
Anyway, break's over, I'm going back in. See ya on the other side...
Edit: MrDJ, I see you're still having problems running this game, so I'll add my edit again:
Create a shortcut from the game's exe located at <gamedir>\bin\farcry.exe and add the line: ' -uplay_steam_mode ' (without the '', of course) right after it. Make sure your FXAA in the NVIDIA driver isn't enforced for this game and you'll be all set.</gamedir></gamedir> -
playing medium setting. runs amazing. gonna start fine tuning soon but at the min its just so much fun. what a great 2012 for gaming
-
when was the last time you cleaned your vents and fans out with compressed air.
download nvidia inspector and core temps from my signature below as quite a few monitoring software give off different readings.
me finally got the game to load last night after 5 hours of downloading. not had much chance to play yet but the quick single and multi i did play blew me away with the graphics. now time to start tweaking. -
King of Interns Simply a laptop enthusiast
Played tonight on max settings and gameplay seems a little jerky at times. Perhaps I should OC my CPU some more. Also I don't find the game particularly good looking. Crysis 1 looks better and it is 5 years old already! I guess as it is console ported the graphics cannot get better.
I am surprised so many here say the graphics blew them away. I expected ALOT better at the end of 2012! I will tweak properly tomorrow and give my final verdict however I just hope the game ends up having a good story to make up for the dated graphics. -
I regularly use compressed air on the fan vent to blow out as much dust as I can. I've never opened the laptop up fully and done that to the entire insides though (bit scared of doing that kind of thing!). Do you think it's needed?
-
Playing on Ultra settings on 6990m except Shadows Medium and no AA, smooth as hell and amazing game, probably the best shooter of the year.
-
King of Interns Simply a laptop enthusiast
Absolutely! If you never open it and clean out the vents from the inside then all you are doing if pushing the dust back inside the chassis where it will quickly build up on the radiator again!
-
That sounds scary. I will do it, but I must purchase a screwdriver first!
-
sure is. luckily clevo's are easy to get into. 4 screws and your done.
i have no idea how your base is secured on a samsung but its a must to take it off and clean inside the fan vents. it wouldnt be more than 6 screws and the whole base plate slides or lifts off. using compressed air just from the outside could be losening the dust but it wont clear it out completely.
i used to use watch mni screwdrivers (itsnormaly a phillips cross head) but ne of the screws on my ne lappy was so tight i couldnt budge it so get a set that has a handle and you will be fine. i got a 30 piece set last week and it was about £7.00 from a hardware shop.
edt. just had 6 games now of multi and (wait for it) im not liking it much. think i will stick to the single player. -

Yup, I've always wanted to brick my laptop, but unfortunately I'm not retarded enough.
That's really nice of your parents to buy you a new gpu though. -
45 - 60+ fps so far on Ultra with the latest Beta Drivers. The most common fps I see so far is 45-50 fps though. There are times of occasional stutter and drops in fps but nothing that is too bad. I have only played it for about 30 mins but so far it is brilliant. The game world is alive, I've been attacked by snakes, crocodiles, boars and bears. The driving is fun and easy to control too. This game will never be leaving my laptop!
Edit:
If I set view distance and GPU buffered frames to max with custom settings of everything high apart from Post Fx and water medium, I get a steady 55fps on DX11 with frames reaching as high as 86fps with no lag or stutter! -
Am I supposed to get 30 - 35 fps on dx9 medium settings with the 6770m and i7 ? Is there some tweaking to the confg file ?
-
killkenny1 Too weird to live, too rare to die.
I remember that I have thought the same about Far Cry 2
.
-
moviemarketing Milk Drinker
Try turning off AA and reducing the shadow detail a bit, but with all the other settings maxed. -
Also Post FX. That's a big framerate killer.
-
King of Interns Simply a laptop enthusiast
If anyone suffers stuttering with 7970M or 680M then set the render distance to max 110 and max frame buffer to 5. This removed all the stuttering and the game also looks much better. Running max settings it is getting fun
Just look out for leopards at night. I got ripped apart by one haha -
Max settings? Ultra Preset + DX 11 + Anti Aliasing?
-
King of Interns Simply a laptop enthusiast
Everthing set to max except for anti aliasing. That is off. Yes ultra preset. CPU gets pretty warm after 3-4 hours of play though. at 23/23/25/27 multi my 920xm managed to hit 87C. 7970M runs so cool! Just 76C max!
-
Hey how do you change the render distance? I couldnt find anything in the xml file...
-
King of Interns Simply a laptop enthusiast
In the game go to menu and under display options you can adjust how far the game allows your gpu to render. Move the slider all the way to the right and it hits max 110. Before I did this it was set to just 30 or so. Doing this and buffering the frames to max too makes the game alot smoother even when driving like a mad man sideways
Anyone else love the quad bikes in this! -
oh right, ingame...thanks, i woulnt have put it on max to increase the frames
Yeah quads are awesome
btw, is there a way to change a car to "3rd person view" if know what i mean? -
That only made my FPS worse. Haha!
-
Weird. Getting silky smooth gameplay on my gtx 580m M17x laptop xD. Everything max except for the AA. Playing with PS3 Controller.
-
Anyone knows possible solution for getting savegames working after applying 1.01 patch? The game doesn't seem to find my old savegame, but it exists in My Documents.
-
Its actually very playable on my laptop (High-Medium mix) around 40-45 fps but that weird stuttering/frame skipping is still present no matter what i do...lets hope that new drivers tommorow will help with that...
