lol youtube isn't going to give you an accurate impression of the best-looking texture mod available for Crysis 2. No offense, but that's kinda ridiculous. Youtube quality is garbage compared to playing it in-game.

You think I'd try to mislead you somehow? Crysis 2 is already the best-looking game out there (in my humble opinion) and adding MaldoHD puts it miles ahead of Far Cry 3, and any other game I can think of for that matter. Right now the mod is at 4.0 beta, but once the final 4.0 is released you can add other TOD mods to further improve the graphics. I'm using the earlier 3.0 since it's compatible with Quality Mod, and it's simply stunning (and 4.0 still looks significantly better.) I suggested it to another member here on the forums and he PMed me saying it puts everything else he's played to shame... he has 6990m too, btw.

The guy who makes the mod is a professional photographer and graphic design artist out of Spain (I think it's Spain at least lol.)

    lol/

that does look pretty good but I like the colors of far cry 3 it's gorgeous. Its not nessessarily the details that impress me(textures) it's the overall look. I just love what farcry 3 looks like so green and pretty..

I agree, there is a difference between the level of fidelity and photorealism in graphics and the aesthetic appeal of a game, which has a lot more to do with art direction.

For example, in my view Dishonored is probably the most beautiful game I've ever played, and the textures are not photorealistic at all.

lol sorry bud, I know waiting sucks. I'm getting anxious waiting for the next round of flagship gpus from amd and nvidia to come out. I want to upgrade to an Alienware M17x with an 8970m or 780m :D

Yeah, Far Cry 3 is a pretty game, but saying MaldoHD is "unimpressive" is like calling the ceiling in the Sistine Chapel "bland" lol. It really is the most graphically-advanced game out there right now.

I wish I weren't such a graphics wh*re lol. I thought Dishonored was ok, but I couldn't get over the graphics. They were just too bland for me, even though the ambiance and setting were interesting.

I love high-end graphics; it's the main reason why PC gaming appeals to me. Before this laptop, I gamed exclusively on the PS3 and 360 for a few years and got so sick of them.

yea, I kinda agree with failwheeldrive this time around. I didn't say it wasn't impressive or did I? lol honestly it looks great but i think bioshock and farcry 3 have better art direction. shaders are pretty damn good in farcry 3 if you look closely at the rocks you will see crysis 1 level of detail maybe even better, so im happy about that. but the real standout is the lush look very very lush. and besides farcry 3 is funner to play IMHO. crysis fun factor is around a 3 for me out of 100 of course. Im hardcore in a sense, however crysis 2 just was beaten once and then well its getting mighty dusty. I'd rather play warhead again and again because it looked great and was funner to play. as it stands warheads replacement is farcry 3.

No doubt FC3 looks a ton better than Crysis 1. The level of detail in the environment is awesome for a open world game. Crysis shows its age mainly in terms of polygon count and bad textures imo. The environment when it isn't modded looks bland.

And FC3 is ridiculously fun. I'm on my third playthrough lmao, and I rarely do that with shooters.

I just understand "best looking" as "best graphics," so that's why I said Crysis 2 with mods. When you factor in art direction and personal taste, it's certainly debatable.

Have to agree with failwheeldrive. FC3 although nice is not on comparison with Crysis2MaldoHD. The resolution and option list on MaldoHD config is just fricken insane. Run it at full max and watch how your single GPU crawls to it's knees and makes you want to go sli/crossfire.

I have played a ot of recent and old games and have this to say...new games may come and go but only the old ones you remember. I have thoroughly enjoyed Doom3 BFG edition. Just play that one and you get a real appreciation of textures, lighting and shadows which I am sorry to say put to shame many of the titles that were released in 2012.
I just played FC3 again from beginning and still the game looks to me amateurish... ok maybe that's harsh but it has this stupidity about it with a cocky/yuppy storyline which does not appeal to me. I for one enjoyed hitman:absolution storyline one which was great to experience and see you chase Victoria.

Dishonoured I got sick of up to the third level. Quite linear and no real challenge and that's where I left it.
These are the current games I have on my notebook for when someone comes over or I feel the need to game..
Any other titles not on the list below has no real replay value...
    Metro2033
    Crysis 1
    Crysis2 MaldoHD
    Max Payne 3
    Sniper Elite V2
    Bad Company 2
    Battlefield 3
    Sleeping Dogs
    Hitman:Absolution

Watched it. Found the DVD in a stack of DVDs my uncle left behind and oh dear lord... it was absolutely horrible. The action was meh and plot weak at most. Felt like I wasted about an hour and a half of my life on top of my fond memories in Far Cry watching it.

The movie did the original game so much injustice... D:

If you bought the game through Steam, is the co-op handled by Steam, or do you still have to use U-play to find people to play with?

I got the Uplay version, and haven't tried the multiplayer as I don't have any "Ubi-friends"

You have to use Uplay to start up the game no matter what, even if you have the Steam version (which I do.) I would assume you can play with your Steam friends online though, but I haven't tried it. I'm really addicted to the Map Editor at the moment lol.

Sounds like fun, but the problem is how do you share your mods? I don't think there's any Steam workshop or anything similar for friends to check out the maps you made, right?

Yeah, it's a flawed system right now. Ubi promised that you could make single player "campaign" type maps with the editor, and it doesn't work like that at the moment. You can't do co-op with your friends against the AI in the map, and you don't have access to the abilities you have in single player (stealth kills, sliding, more health, etc.) It really needs work, but if Ubi doesn't fix it, then I'm sure modders will. There's a map editor mod thread about it over on the Ubi forums right now.

As far as I recall this was done the 29th December, and Ubisoft (I am not sure on this, some one just told me) gave out 100 keys to random users via mail.

As a thanks that is... weird they didn't announce it, probably a hoax lol

Half way through the missions and im thinking right now is whew wow. simply amazing and captivating. Im hardcore but sorta hate video games these days only games I enjoy is halo 1 crysis warhead and crysis 1 and now they have finally been replaced with farcry 3. Im playing in stereoscopic 3d and its really neat having such a gorgeous world to mess around in especially in 3d, its much funner than a 3d movie.

I was scanning textures around the map and some of them are down right astounding, were talking mms here specs of detail with bumpmapping and reflections and refractions of light its simply mind blowing. I have never come across a funner game to play.

    10/10 so far

I haven't even done any missions on this one, I only play it in free roam mode and different things happen every time.

    Edit:

I just finished playing a short run and I managed to lead two tigers into the enemy outpost and then let another caged one free. I sat back while the outpost was taken without me lifting a finger haha.

the deluxe bundle DLC has been posted by a member on the uplay forum. a moderator said he just bought it and it was $10 but theres no sign of it on the UK site.

    anyone in america clarify this.

this was the link he posted but its a google page https://plus.google.com/u/0/102871743837161259616/posts/7dgFaXtyPim

Looking for more insanity? The Deluxe Bundle DLC offers 6 new single-player missions, 4 rare animals, 2 multiplayer weapon unlocks, and all other previously released retail bonuses. Get it today on your Xbox 360, PlayStation® 3, or PC!

never mind, here it is http://www.oxm.co.uk/49371/far-cry-3-deluxe-bundle-offers-five-dlc-packs-for-800-mp/

$10 / £6.99 but not released for PC yet.

pointless for me as i bought the deluxe edition so i think there will only be 2 single player missions as ive already got the rest.

Finally started up Far Cry 3 and can't even play. No voices! Not sure what to make of it. Rebooted machine, reinstalled game, still no voices.

edit: corrected it. Have to select Stereo mode from audio control panel instead of 5.1. stupid.

Finished the game, started going around collecting relics and guess what? Damn Relic #1 is the only one I'm missing but I can't get it because it's in the 's cave and it is sealed off because I've finished the story line. Oh well, I guess I'll live. Love this game though.

There's a patch that fixes that problem.

I can't unlock the Ripper signature weapon on a second new game. It appears after you complete the trials (regardless if you start a new game), you won't be able to receive xp, cash, and the Ripper LMG on a new game. Secondly you can teleport to these locations.

does the game run decently now with latest drivers for nvidia? like above 60fps with a 680? I remember I had to use some old drivers to get the game running nicely, but even then on the second island it had weird drops when nothing was going on.

Using an M17x and 7970m. I'm getting good performance on every other game but this is running slower than it should be from what I've seen online- under 30 fps at bits. With a little OC every game I have runs a lot faster than this at Max settings -Battefiled is 50+, GTA 4 is about 50, Witcher without UBsamp is 50+. The GPU is running at 100% -going by Afterburner and I'm using the latest Dell drivers. Anyone got any advice?

I'm not too fussy about waiting. I thought I might be missing something as Farycry 3 is one of the titles that AMD claims runs faster than Nvidia on their top mobile GPU's -and other 7970m users seem to be getting better performance. By the way- how do you find PCS Vortex laptop's in general and particularly the screen? I used PCS to get one of the little inferno gaming laptops which I'm quite impressed by. I would consider them when I upgrade from the M17x as they have much better prices for similar hardware in comparison to Alienware. One of the main things I like about the Alienware is the quality of the screen.

Although, i've beaten the game, and i just play with huge numbers of AI in the editor now lol..

Just started to play this game and it's awesome! Beautiful too. I can't wait to get my new lappy and turn up the settings a bit.

I really like the action in the game too. I was chiling, collecting some plants in a river when I suddenly got attacked by a crocodile and I nearly fell off my chair. God I love this game.
