... But it's good to have a job lined up.. I was so worried as I had completed uni and didn't have anything after going to so many interviews
-
I've been sending out applications but not hearing many responses with only a handful of interviews.
so I just freelance, do survival jobs while I keep looking.
-
I feel your pain. After I finished uni last year I had no interviews for the jobs related to my degree, the situation was so bad I was being turned down at the application stage constantly. In the space of 10 months I had I think 3 interviews, none of which were even remotely related to my degree subject. So I've ended up going back to uni again for an MRes degree. I sure hope the job market will have improved by Autumn next year.

i didn't buy AC:Unity on the predication that the series started to get boring after black flag nor did the french revolution even interested me.
i'm still waiting to see if Patch 4 for AC:Unity will make it playable so if there's people who bought the game can try the game post-patch and report back on the game's stability that would be good then I'd get it for Ss & Gs. Dying Light and MGSV: Ground Zeroes look interesting and I'll get them to see how they fare on my AW17 with MGSV:GZ coming out in a few hours but can't pre-purchase or know what the dang price is! Jan 27 feels very close now. -
The most ironic part is my BSc diploma proudly hangs on a wall in a $100 frame at my parents place, while my MSc diploma quietly sits in an oversized envelope in drawer somewhere, feeling very sad and neglected.D2 Ultima likes this. -
It also depends how on whether if you're willing to start at the bottom and the reality is you will need to, I did intern work just to get experience and my foot in the door. Don't expect to get into a high level job from the get go, work your way up, get experience.

So long as you keep looking and most of all keep a positive attitude you will get the job you set out to get. For the most part further education is a waste of time these days. Experience is worth far more. Once you start accumulating experience it will contribute well to successful application for the next job. Think of it like stepping stones. Once you are in employment then you will be considered for interview. If you are not employed forget it they are not interested.

In my field, marine biology, jobs are few and far between. Any experience I do get is not really relevant to the mundane everyday jobs like shop assistant etc., so those kind of employers don't look at me twice as I have no experience with those kind of jobs at all. Any experience I do get from those mundane jobs is then not relevant to the specialist field of marine biology. I do plan on doing some voluntary stuff from early next year, just too busy with coursework at the moment.

Try another field. It is likely somehow, especially if you thrive at the job your experience will help you return to your original field. That is what has happened to me. I started in hospitality. Moved to Japan and became a teacher literally overnight. Totally different field, country and life. Couldn't be happier though. Recently upon application to new jobs that I wouldn't have even thought to dare apply to in the past I am having success due to things I have learned and experienced in my current profession.
Experience no matter how or where you gain it counts. Don't stick to the profession your degree dictates if it doesn't suit you to do so. Mine was Tourism Management. Finally what 8 years later I might be getting a job remotely to do with that degree haha -

Any marine life in Far Cry 4? I could study their behaviour as part of my project.

It might sound stupid or an unnecessary risk but if you have passion to learn something new and change in order to learn it, you will reap what you sow.

This is the random drop to 30fps from 60fps i was talking about. the vid is the third instance i could find so far that does this and there's no reason for it!

to add to my grief list...
6) sniper rifles - they seem to do too much damage.
7) sniper rifles - this time i had a big rock that blocked my line of sight and yet the enemy died when i pulled the trigger so for some magical reason they're able to go through rocks.
8) rolling over while still riding an ATV you can clip through the world floor.
9) civilian AI running away from your speeding vehicle but in the wrong direction and get run over by you...then the game blames you for their death and deducts karma points....oh FFS!Last edited by a moderator: May 6, 2015 -

who cares about karma? It's a stupid feature to have in a overly violent game. I've got my buzzsaw and that is all that matters! hehe

As to the title of my degree comment, well all I'm saying is one year of grad school does not make you go from "unemployable" to "highly qualified applicant". It's funny because I applied to this one company with just a bachelors and they didn't bother giving me an interview or returning any of my calls. When I applied to this same company with a masters (for giggles mainly), they literally emailed me back the same day asking when I could go in for an interview.
Oh and the whole "experience" requirement is just an absurd catch 22 clause. You need to have experience in order to qualify for the position, oh but you can't get experience because nobody wants to hire someone with no experience.
As for working from the bottom up and not shooting for the moon... While I can see where this is coming from, in practice this means you're basically inviting the company to lowball you. For me it means I do the work expected of a masters but get paid the same as someone with a bachelors. But yes at least I have a job so I guess I'll just shut my hole.Last edited: Dec 19, 2014 -
the problem with having 1 or more university degrees is.....DEBT! I still owe on my bachelors and I was so close to doing a Graduate Diploma (one down from a Masters) but decided not to because I didn't really think it was worth it.
-
Depending on the field and school a full blown masters could be entirely funded so you won't have to pay a single penny. At least that's how it was for me although 1/3 of my funding came from 200 hours of TA work.
Also I thought there was a grace period and a cap on how much you have to repay OSAP? -
-
Oh sorry I assumed you did university in Canada since your location says Toronto.
