I am very tempted to preorder. I mean, Ubisoft can't mess up this game that much can they? It's the same darn engine as Far Cry 3, which ran pretty good all things considered... £28.88 is much better value than the £49.99 that UPlay and Origin are asking for... (Far Cry 4 is nowhere to be found on the UK's Steam store)

Thanks guys, yeah I tried that one but it wasn't valid for either FC4 or the new borderlands. It says "excludes select titles", which obviously are the ones that I want lol.
-
killkenny1 Too weird to live, too rare to die.
You are doing something wrong because it works for me. I get 46,20EUR on checkout. -
Are you applying it to the standard download edition? I don't think it applies to the boxed physical copy.
-
I tried the standard edition, the gold edition and the new borderlands standard. I believe all were download version, although I can't even see a way to tell for sure (I wasn't even aware GMG sold boxed copies at all). I searched a bunch of games and found none with a boxed option.
I still think it must be a US thing, unless someone else has gotten it to work from the US.
*In the basket it says "PC download" so yeah that was good. Although again I did a bunch of searching in the store and didn't find any games that didn't say PC download. There could be some but in all the ones I searched on I didn't find a single one. -
Maybe the code we gave you is for EU only and there's a NA specific code? Try checking the homepage for the code. Should be off to the centre right of the screen.
-
No I found the same code you gave on GMG, I'm betting its one of the excluded titles and they exclude different titles in different countries. I know it's taking the code, its just not valid for the title because I can change one digit and the error changes from "unable to add voucher" to "this is not a valid voucher". Also I found some posts from a couple days ago where others said the promotion was over. Oh well, I was on the fence anyway.
-
Same here, based in US and can't use the code on any of the Far Cry 4 preorders. Must be a US thing.

no words about requirements still???Yesterday they confirmed that far cry 4 has gone gold

Any news on being limited to 30 FPS?
-
Honestly, there is NO SUCH THING as "PC limited to 30fps" except for South Park The Stick of Truth. People WILL find a way to unlock it, whether it works well above 30fps or not.
What you should be asking is "have they mentioned whether they coded like butts and tied the physics and animations etc to 30fps and 65 fov?".killkenny1 likes this. -

Yeah but gtx 680 is too much for recommended settings -
killkenny1 Too weird to live, too rare to die.
At least Ubi is doing some progress - it's not required for low settings. -
They have zero idea what they're doing. A FX-8350 rips a i5-2500S apart like it's a joke.
A 680 is recommended but paired with a R9 290X? That's like saying a GTX Titan is recommended paired with an AMD 7970. Min spec should be far less than a 460 too; a GTX 460 should be ALMOST able to copy Xbox 1's graphical settings with an i5-750, which is technically the recommended spec.
If they're going to gimp the PC version, they better gimp the specs too. There's no reason a GTX Titan is needed to run a game looking like what's on a PS4, and there's even LESS of a reason for it to need MORE than that for ultra, which is going to be slightly better than the consoles. -
lol, saw this one coming.
-

Better than 680 for minimum settings *cough* cinematic
Maybe Nvidia gave them some money
-
This happens all the time. Most often, nVidia's cards will appear to be far far weaker than the comparing AMD cards. Most often happens in min spec, where a GTX 460 will get paired with the MUCH stronger ATI 5870. *sigh* this industry man. Real PC gaming hate and lack of knowledge.
-
Note: for the NVIDIA promotion thing only certain retailers are taking part in terms of laptops. Overclockers UK told me that the offer only applies to desktop GPUs when buying from them. So no free FC4 for me, 'tis a shame.

Maybe you should start tweeting Jen Hsun Huang about it, see if he gives you a steam code to get you off his back. -
I don't think so. AMD CPU's suck for gaming.
-
A FX-8350 with the hotfixes and core unparking done in windows isn't THAT weak. Of course if a game relies heavily on single-threaded or dual-threaded performance the i5 will eke out better performance probably, but for a game like that? It should be just fine. It's only really with Ivy Bridge and Haswell (that I've seen) that truly start to pace past the FX series. Even though they're only 5-10% better than the last, it does add up; Haswell should be ~14-22% better than Sandy Bridge computationally.
My experience comes 2nd hand from friends I talk to often who use AMD's CPUs though; a FX-6300 and a FX-8350, and they often compare performance to what my friends with i7s/i5s and 680s get, etc. -
The two Windows 7 scheduler & core parking updates for Bulldozer (Windows 8 has them included out of the box) increase performance by 10% at most, usually it's 0-5%. I personally installed them and benched the before and after on my friend's FX-6300 machine which I helped build for him.
i5-2400S is pretty evenly matched with FX-8350 in most gaming. It has around the same performance as the Nehalem i5-760, which ties the FX-8350 in the gaming benchmarks at the bottom here:
AnandTech | Bench - CPU
FX-8350 will pull ahead in games that can take advantage of more than 4 threads, but otherwise the i5-2400S is very comparable and doesn't get destroyed like you said.
BTW to drive home the point of how much AMD CPU's suck at gaming, here is a 54W 3.7 GHz i3-4360 keeping up with and even beating a 220W 5 GHz FX-9590:
AnandTech Portal | AMD’s 5 GHz Turbo CPU in Retail: The FX-9590 and ASRock 990FX Extreme9 Review -
Yeah... haswell rips piledriver apart. If you think that's bad... playing & streaming a game on 3.5GHz 4800MQ requires the same game, same settings and same streaming settings to have a 4.8GHz or higher FX-8350 to have a similar amount of CPU power leftover. In low-thread-count games Haswell will basically always win; sandy bridge will be a fairer fight, but an i7 SB or above will always beat bulldozer and piledriver, it's true. That arch is about 3 years old now though; AMD needs to bring out new stuff badly.
But then again, remember that these games are running on 8-core consoles; they should be able to take advantage of these CPUs, which is something I also don't get.
Welp, GG AMD. Intel has more reason to be complacent than I had thought. -
Believe it or not, clock-for-clock Vishera is still slower than Phenom II, which was only competitive with Core 2/Nehalem way back in the day. AMD went with more but weaker cores, essentially gambling on a multi-threaded future, and lost badly.

Oh noes, what happened? Far Cry 4 has been removed from Steam. Is Ubisoft trying to make uPlay like Origin?
If only I had already pre-ordered the Steam version. -
So I have heard. They're going to lose so many sales it's not even funny LOL
-
moviemarketing Milk Drinker
Yes as much as I was looking forward to this game, I'm going to hold out until they put it back on the Steam store.
Bad enough with Bioware and BF games on Origin, now every cut-rate publisher is going to wall off their games and make their own fail version of Steam? -
I'm drawing the line at origin and uplay I swear

That's what worries me, Activision and 2K could do this. If so gaming on PC is about to get messy again. I guess I've been a gamer long enough to know nothing last forever. No more arcades etc and how bad things got for PC. The same thing happened in the movie/tv on demand market, everyone wants there own service for full profits.
-

If that were to happen maybe Valve will finally have to start making games again

Honestly, Activision is not stupid enough to do this, and 2K probably don't care enough to do this. I can tell you for sure that Activision knows steam is their best bet at moneymaking. Ubisoft is trying to hurt PC gamers; we know this. EA just wanted to compete with steam, and they learned their lesson with how many people hated Origin for years. At least they're improving now with new management.Rizer likes this.

What's the point, you will still need Uplay in order to play it, Steam or no Steam. Might as well skip this game altogether. -
King of Interns Simply a laptop enthusiast
That will be your loss!
It doesn't cost anything to have steam, origin and uplay on your pc. It is pretty much a necessity if you want to play games these days.
Silly reason to skip a game and the pain will be only yours by doing so. FC4 will be a great game just like it's predecessor. It looks very much the same but more honed both graphically, AI and immersion wise.
Coupled with GTA 5 I am going to be spending far too much time gaming soon
-
moviemarketing Milk Drinker
Yep, Uplay has always been annoying. If they put these games back on Steam though, link
Would you be fine with a few more different platforms like this? How about 10 or 15 different clients, and Steam is no longer the place where you can connect with friends for multiplayer games? Right now Steam has over 100 million subscribers, it fills this role served by Xbox Live or Playstation Network for console gamers. -
I prefer an open client environment where you can choose to participate or not. More like IM for gamers with similar interests.
I hate any form of DRM and avoid it when possible. I make exceptions rarely for games that I'm willing to put up with it like FC4, GTA5 and BF games. Otherwise I buy games from GOG and support that environment, and can't wait for their galaxy client which is totally optional, allows to connect with friends, and maybe even download updates if you want. Witcher 3 while not at the top of my list (never played 1 or 2) I plan to buy from GOG DRM free to support the cause, and am showing it with my wallet. -
LOL someone likes getting bent over...

Origin used to be bad, but now it's fine for me. Yes! it doesn't have some of the features Steam have, but it's working without any issue.
-

To be honest, for me Steam started to feel a bit bloated... -

I'm sorry but I fail to understand what the big deal is - you were going to have to use Origin/Uplay/etc. anyway to download and play the game. Steam was simply a reseller for these games.
I still haven't prebought GTAV but between FC4, AC, and DAI - I'm good for a while. Pile GTA on top of that and my social life will be pretty much nonexistent - who am I kidding, I coach my 5yo sons basketball team; I will NEVER finish these games

It seems like an important part of Far Cry 4 will be the open world co-op as well as PVP team deathmatch. Without a Steam version, you can't play together with Steam friends.
What they are doing on PS4 and Xbox version is allowing friends who don't even have the game to play open world co-op with you. Not entirely sure if this will be similar for PC, but at any rate when you end up in Origin/Uplay purgatory, you get walled off from the 100 million people on Steam.
Fortunately, Ubisoft has already caved to the enormous pressure and put their games back on Steam
-

I'm pretty sure with Watch Dogs you use ubi's servers. I don't see why that wouldn't be the case for the other 2. I may be wrong though ;/
