Looks good.
My complaints - devs still aren't taking the models and animations serious enough. These new effects are all and good but with the Oculus coming out (and after watching Sword Art Online) it got me thinking - what good is all this technology when the textures, models, and animations still look like Mr. Roboto.

So there is no "Gaben is playing Watch Dogs. Click to join game" notification, for example?
I guess you might be a tougher customer to please than me when it comes to the graphics. I still get impressed with any open world game that looks better than Fallout New Vegas. -

I dunno - I don't have any uplay friends
I'm also rarely active on steam with friends when I'm online - but in the game itself people were always invading the game for pvp-esqe missions. -
See, Uplay works okay for 1st world countries. But it still has a lot of connection issues and many people have complained about FC3 and such not being able to even run because Uplay won't work correctly. Also, it's REALLY dumb that the game does not close until you close a Uplay pop up that happens after playing a game. Like what?
Anyway, Uplay has language issues, money issues and a whole set of other issues that take place for 3rd world countries. Which is MOST OF THE WORLD. The US and the UK are just a pretty loud yet small section of consumers. Uplay only is *NOT* okay by any stretch of the imagination.
Origin however, is getting a lot better. They have fixed overcharging my country and many others, they've defaulted to US dollars if they cannot figure out our minimum currency instead of charging us in the (sometimes 25% more expensive-than-US Euro currency) and they've made all their deals and promotions open to all. Honestly, once they fix the language being incorrect for my country in the store (not the client interface) they'll just be a bit of a feature-lacking steam alternative, and that's something I'm really fine with.
Uplay has been out for almost as long and is just terrible to even try to use. Hell I can't even redeem game codes you get by buying video cards unless you're in the US. Then their website and client will auto-redirect you to some oceanic place or something, and their support says "well use the US site" and not help any more than that. I'm STILL supposed to have a copy of Assassin's Creed 4 that I was never able to get. It's ridiculous.moviemarketing likes this. -

It's not that I'm tough, its that the industry as a whole isn't working together to really push the envelope of gaming. Imagine for a second that nerve VR has come out and the only games available are visually beautiful...until you look at the avatars. The avatars are something from 2010 or worse, 2008. I guess the point I'm trying to make is that the same level of effort hasn't really gone in to the models and animations of human beings as it has for the environment and animals. Its going to come back and bite them all the butt at some point
LOL - its intentional ;P
That makes sense, I wasn't even considering the effect on other countries. But that doesn't change what I was saying about having to use Uplay anyway - every Ubi game I've bought on Steam, I've had to register and use on Uplay. Is that not the case for other countries? -
You know I really couldn't care less about Steam, and I wish these "game managers" would just go away entirely. But of coures that ain't happening so whatever.

No, I still need to launch Uplay. However that doesn't mean that BUYING games on Uplay and buying them on steam then registering on Uplay are the same thing... for example, download speed limits and regulating download times etc, as well as the prices paid etc are usually far better on steam. I don't want to actually have to go on Uplay to purchase anything because of the price jack-ups etc. Also, their store is a mess with usually 3+ versions of the same game floating around.

I don't see anything all that new there. That's just showing GPU tech more than game engine tech.

I was forced to preorder this game... hear me out...
I won a £30 Amazon gift voucher from completing on online survey. I applied it to Far Cry 4 in the checkout to see if it would work, which it did, but I made sure not to place the order. I thought I would be able to change it to a different item afterwards, but I couldn't. It was a one-time use code so the discount was only applied to Far Cry 4 and could not be switched over, even though I never actually placed an order. The offer was always going to be locked to the game. So naturally, rather than waste the voucher, I bought the game.
Cost me £8.49 with free expedited delivery.
Hope it's a good game!

My GTX 980M cranks out Far Cry 3 40-50fps at 3K native maxed settings.
How do you think this game will fare? Same engine as Far Cry 3 so the recent lack of optimisation with Watch Dogs and AC Unity shouldn't carry over to this title.

Don't underestimate Ubisoft.
Anyway, that's amazing what you get in FC3 at max at 3k... unless you're talking about using no MSAA -

I think this game would be demanding more just cause of that fur technique they use for animals.Otherwise its the same as far cry 3 with maybe 10-15% less framerate cause of some eye candys like god rays, more detailed objects and similar
-
you will prob get 10fps with your lowly 980m at 3k joking
you should be fine afterall it's coming to the last gen consoles so some optimization is in order -
killkenny1 Too weird to live, too rare to die.
Hey guys, might you have an idea how many FPS would I get...
Guys... Guys... GUYS! Where are you going?!? C'mon, don't leave me hangin' here! Surely I would be able to play it at least on low. Aghhh, what am I talking about, I can't even run Tropico 5 of all the games. What can I expect from Ubioptimization! Only slide show, that's what! -

Did you try Far Cry 3? Was it playable?
In my case, FC3 was laggy in the cutscenes, but still quite playable at 1080p, even with some settings maxed, despite having relatively weak 5830M graphics card. -
killkenny1 Too weird to live, too rare to die.
DX9 on 768p (native res) ran for the most part on high (had to turn down post processing from time to time) pretty well. Not 60, but around 30 area give or take.
But in my case DX11 requirement will be a big no no. What I find interesting though, Sniper Elite 3 requires DX11, yet I can still play it, but Tropico 5 won't budge... Probably some stupid shader stuff... -
Definitely no MSAA. Even a desktop 780 (faster than a 980M) gets sub-60 FPS at 1080p, and 2880x1620 is 2.25x the number of pixels:

Yeah I need people to start saying whether "max" settings includes AA for them. If it doesn't I usually put "AA off" or "no AA" in brackets.TBoneSan likes this.

Just curious does 3k on a tiny 15.6 inch screen even need aa anymore?
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk -
Probably not unless you're a Nazi.
At APU13 I played BF4 on one of the earlier consumer 4K monitors. This was back when they were all MST. The game didn't need AA even on that 32" screen. -
moviemarketing Milk Drinker
I'm guessing 4xMSAA would be overkill as that is more than twice the PPI of 17.3" 1080p display. -
bought but im thinking i wont be able to drag myself away from AW
first game ive ever bought from gmg but saving £15 sure helps.
wonder how long it will take before steam, origin and ubi notice the loss in revenue with everyone buying elsewhere for cheaper. -
Devs set prices for the most part on steam, so if a company like GMG or GOG etc can offer them cheaper, they're likely doing something like getting physical copies super cheap and selling you the keys, which the publishers of games can't really control.

Quagmire LXIX Have Laptop, Will Travel!
Seems very unlike AC4, as of this post 124 steam reviews with 84% positive. Read quite a few of them and it's a go for me. Maybe 50% legit posts imo though.

Quagmire LXIX Have Laptop, Will Travel!
Early impressions are good. It does have that intermediate stuttering just like FC3, since it was never optimized for me, I doubt it will be on FC4 either, fortunately I'm a lazy controller gamer
and am used to it with FC3 (using 14.9 whql). Even on High settings with some minor customizing (No AA) and no gpu oc, I get around 50+ FPS avg, so I have room to tweak, might lose the Hair setting.
I just threw some bait at 3 baddies and watched a bear mess 2 of them up, then knifed the 3rd while he was cleaning out his shorts from the bear attack
I have another open world shooter to be a sneaky B' or full on raider, I'm happy so far. Should hold me until JC3.flamy likes this. -
still not received the link in UK from greenMgaming for the download.
what the folder size as i guess over 30gb as that seems the norm now. -
How does it run on a 780M? I'm going to have to spend 4 weeks without a 980M, the wait is going to kill me. At least I get to experience the 980M with this game tonight and most of tomorrow before I have to say goodbye to the P35X v3.

well......
how does it run -
It takes forever to install from the disks... still not installed yet.
-
do you think the 850m gtx can run it on ultra or high
-
Not even close
-
well so its more demanding than crysis 3>?
-
It's installed. I'm about to find out!
EDIT: day 1 patch while take a while to download... -
well according to notebookcheck the 7970m is only 21 percent faster than the gtx 850m. so doing some easy math that means i cn expect 39-40fps all high 1080p. with an overclock i can expect 48fps avg so im pretty sure the 850m gtx can max farcry 4 out at at least 24-35fps
-
loaded, played, now back to AW
looks ok so far but graphically for me anyway doesnt look as pretty (if thats the right word) as FC3 but ive only managed to go as far as when the car crashes.
im saving this one for nearer christmas play me thinks while i get on with AW for now.
hope theres no glitches for anyone.
enjoy. -
Haha that's how I feel. I really, really want to try it out but at the same time I know that when I play it now, it's gonna make the downgrade to the 780M for a month that much harder to swallow. But, my logic is to make the most of the time I have left with the 980M while it is still in my possession. Those 4 weeks will melt away with coursework deadlines and such to pass the time - or at least that's what I hope will happen!MrDJ likes this.

For one, you probably don't have enough vRAM or memory bandwidth to think about maxing Far Cry 4. If you manage high at 1080p with playable framerate, then hat's off to you, but if you go in expecting that and don't get it, you'll find yourself disappointed.
Secondly, notebookcheck doesn't really update their benchmarks. You need to compare it to a M290X to get a better idea. For example, the bench for Tomb Raider 2013 shows 46fps for 7970M and 62fps for M290X, and the bench for Far Cry 3 shows 21fps for 7970M and 29fps for M290X. Some of the other games are the same though, which means drivers don't help a truckton for some games. -
well i now referenced 3dmark benchmark scores...same deal
-
I actually think it's one of the best graphics I have ever seen. Very well optimized and the effects are very pretty. Even hard to believe it comes from the same company that made AC:U.
-
Loving it so far. The 980M runs it at 45-60FPS stock on the 'NVIDIA' quality setting at 1080p if you take off the TXAAx4. Even with the fur setting and tree tessellation enabled. 3K is a lot more stressful for the GPU, as expected. At the same quality settings, you're looking at 20-30FPS. Still, it looks gorgeous in 1080p.
I would guess that my 780M would achieve about 20-30FPS at the same settings as above at 1080p. I will have to turn some things down when I go back to it, no doubt about that. Game is fairly well optimised, just the occasional stutter here and there (not an isolated P35X v3 or 980M issue, I've seen many posts about it over in Steam forums from all sorts of hardware combos). I'm sure a patch will sort it out soon enough.
EDIT: turning off SMAA takes the FPS up to 55-60FPS at 1080p. -
780m getting 20-30 fps I guess 850m will do medium then sorry
-
he claims 24fps avg in ultra which is very playable lol cinematic
-
crysis 1 still looks better 2007 ftw ;p
-
Look at that, I was spot on with my guesstimate
I figured it would get the same as the 980M does at 3K.
