Like I said before it sucks not being one steam, and could be eventually maybe? But if you want to play it as a semi-newish game you have to buy on epic or uplay.
After a few hours of play I am not disappointed (yet). Still very familiar far cry formula that I have enjoyed by the most recent titles but again it feels a bit more serious and I know it's an odd thing but I love the title music. Reminds me of Crysis 3 for some reason (which I also loved the music). Sends chills up my spine for some reason, like some ultimate bad guy about to break to the world unless I step in.

Fair enough but on FC5 we'll have to agree to disagree. It was my favorite of them all. Being in the middle of Texas, I am very much surrounded by religious nuts and the whole plot of FC5 hit right home with me. I absolutely loved it.
For now I'll hold off FC6 for just a bit longer. To distract myself, I'm installing Just Cause 4 as we speak. It's another game from the long list of played but never finished.JRE84, hfm, killkenny1 and 2 others like this. -
Replying to myself again... I actually had a moment of weakness today and attempted to buy FC6.
- Apparently there's some weird bug with ubisoft connect that when I was clicking through the store and trying to add the game to the cart, it would constantly open a bunch of empty facebook tabs. Saw quite some ppl complaining about this on reddit so I guess it must be some bug. Already not happy.
- Moving on, I did manage to add it to cart and then I notice on the game page the top bar advertising that I can get 20% off with 100 ubi points. Perfect I say, this is the excuse I was looking for. Click, redeem, lose the 100 points for the coupon and then of course I notice in tiny letters that this can be used only for old games (nothing within 3 months of release.) Reading about this further, I find that it's US only. People in the UK, for example, have been happily using this for FC6.
You know what ubisoft? you can keep your game. I'll buy it when it comes to steam or you get your act together and fix your buggy platform and stop using scummy marketing practices

That's reasonable. A lot of people also liked FC5 for that very reason - familiar surroundings.
I also had no problem applying 20% discount on AC Valhalla when it just released.
Shame Ubisoft restricts people like this.
You will be still forced to use their buggy platform, together with Steam.saturnotaku, hfm, unlogic and 2 others like this. -
About two hours in and I have to say I'm impressed. Those early clips didn't do it justice at all.
I'm still on the "starter" island but I'm really having fun and don't feel at all the need to just rush through missions. I actually found myself exploring and just taking in the sights. They did a great job with the level design, everything is much more ...dense and varied.
As crazy as this may sound, it runs better than FC3 on my laptop. By better I mean quieter. Yes, for some reason, the fans don't go as crazy as they would with FC3. Mostly high-ish settings and it's butter smooth so far.
Also, I know I said the companion animals were a stupid idea... scratch that too. Guapo is hilarious and he's awesome for protecting me against wildlife. -
Hey! Didn't you bust my balls for caving on D2? lol

Haha, purely by mistake I discovered the usual Far Cry secret early ending. Not going to spoil it, just letting you know there is indeed one in FC6 too

I know the context they use the word "original", but it still cracks me up

Having a blast so far with FC6.
I like the main/side quests variety but I do make it interesting for myself with sort of self imposed challenges. Like making my own quests up. Some days I follow the story, some days I just explore, do some treasure hunts, fly around and take down those damned anti aircraft cannons or other random missions.
I have to say I wish there was a hard mode. Playing stealthily it feels a bit too easy. I'm actually still using one of the starter rifles (M16), silenced, I can one shot headshot almost anyone. I just found the SKS and on paper it does way more damage, looking forward to kit it out and try it.
I like the characters too. Dani's accent is awesome and it's cool she always has something to say. Learned quite a few new curse words
El Tigre is very cool too. I like him.

After finishing Far Cry 5, I bought Far Cry 6 in the heat of the moment against my better judgment.
Anyway, after playing a bit I refunded the game.
BTW, that -20% thing still works for me. -
I'm about 15 hours in, 19% story completion, but I'm guessing much less than that in total things to do based on the map and quests. This may overtake FC5 as my new favorite. I still prefer the Montana setting overall, but the size and scope of this map is huge.
Playing in co-op is as fun as any recent far cry game, with loads of getting into trouble and bad decisions causing havoc lol. I'm overwhelmed with so many distractions and things to do, but maybe that will die down when I get another dozen or two hours in.cucubits likes this. -
Discovered first bit of really disappointing design choice the devs made.
The big main city, Esperanza, is not actually completely built and explorable, as they made it look from the trailers. Being "under lockdown" it's not full of NPCs but it is full of invisible walls and unreachable places.
To get around people flying in and exploring these unreachable rooftops, the devs made it a permanent hard no-fly zone. The two red circles which would normally indicate AA canons, which otherwise can be destroyed, here in Esperanza they're not even built in. Nothing to destroy to get by this. If you get close to the city with anything flying (including wingsuit and parachute), you get instantly killed.
Disappointed a bit, Would've loved exploring the whole city and find cool look-out spots. It's still nice, but it's more like a controlled maze. -

There are quite a few of these.
During my 1,5 gameplay I would say the most annoying was specialized bullets.
I wouldn't mind them much if bullets could be changed on the go (like in FC5), but you have to go to the crafting table to exchange the weapon modules.
I did like how you could holster your weapon and not make enemy nearby agro on you. That was a good addition, I think. -
I was expecting the specialized bullets to bother me too but to be honest it ended up being a completely non-issue. After I put AP rounds in my main gun I just left it there. Going for headshots works perfectly and I haven't felt the need to put back "soft target" rounds since. I can easily clear bases in level 10 zones (full of heavy armored guys). Everyone drops with one shot headshots, even with a side arm.
I do like the holster mechanic too, if you're not in a red zone, they ignore you if you keep moving. I also still use a level 1 armor set which gives me extremely fast running speed with the weapon holstered. I can get away from any hair situation very quickly.killkenny1 likes this. -

I do wish they would improve enemy AI. It feels like with every new FC entry enemy AI gets more dumb and they instead just spam and spawn them out of thin air.
I hated this in previous games, expecially in FC5 (mod reducing enemy encounter 5 times did help though), and FC6 was even worse. -
just did the Machete quest. Won't say more so no spoilers but it was very very cool. Kept smiling throughout the whole thing.
What a roller-coaster of a game. You find bugs or some poor design features but then you run across really awesome quests and it's all good again.Porter likes this. -
That's where I'm at too. I've had 2-3 CTD in my 26 hrs so far. It appears to happen when I'm hearing a radio call and do some other things like talking to a person not related to it all at the same time so maybe I am triggering it in some way. I haven't noticed if it was only on my desktop or both it and my laptop. I've had some odd/funny A.I. things happen too but nothing game breaking to me.
I've barely scratched the surface with all the things to do, I guess I do a lot of running around and just have fun and don't always accomplish much game progression % in a session. In game music still isn't my favorite but it does fit the setting. The world is so huge, feels much larger than previous titles which for me is a good thing.cucubits likes this. -
Describes a lot of games for me, especially open world, insofar as having some good and bad. Probably part and parcel, not going to please everyone with everything.
-
I think FC6 is the first game in a long time where I still find myself enjoying the side quests and not getting bored at all.
Finally got to do Chicharron's quest line. The angry "turkey" is hilarious. He hates bananas, boxes and pots, lol
-
Yeah agreed, there is so much to do, almost too much but at least I don't feel like I'm running out of things.
