The links to the 169.01 driver on l2vg are messed up. The 169.01's can be found on nvidia's website, but is it possible someone could hook me up with a modded inf that works for 32 bit vista (the link on l2vg does not lead to one.)

So is it advisable to take the 169.01 driver from Nvidia and use the 64 bit Vista inf from laptopvideo2go? I'm sorry if this seems like a dumb question but to be honest I'm not terribly computer savvy.

I got what I thought was a modded inf for this driver from lv2g website but I get an error upon installation so I presume there is a problem. Need vista 32 modded .inf myself please

I downloaded the Vista 32 bit drivers from Nvidia and the modded inf from laptop2go... followed the correct installation guidelines and i get this error message when it is installing the driver software it states"windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error while attempting to install it"
anyone know what the problem is... jesus updating drivers are such a hassle. i just read around the forum that this drivers had excellent performence so I decided to try them out and I cant even get them to work.

The l2vg inf is messed up. It would be nice if someone could upload a working one.

Just fooling around with overclocking and 169.01 driver and I've come up with shocking numbers for my 8600mGT DDR2 video card.

F.E.A.R retail 1.08 patch on 1680x1050 resolution everything max except FSAA and Soft Shadow turn off running on core 600 shader 1400 memory 500
    [IMG]

I could push my core and memory a bit higher but it'll only be a couple few points more so there it goes.
169.01 is certainly worth its latest addition to nvidia driver

Did u use the "have disk" method or u just ran the setup.exe?

Anyway, if you want I have uploaded the vista 32bit driver + modded inf that I grabbed from lv2g yesterday (v3.233). The modded inf is inside already as I recompressed the sfx so no need to redownload it seperately. It works perfectly on my vostro using the have disk method.

Man, this thing is a beast. It's unreal the frame rates I'm getting now with these new drivers. I have a Vostro 1700 with a 2.0 c2d and a 8600m gt ddr2 (650,490).

Uneal 3 is running max settings @1280x800 and getting well over 45 fps.

Call of Duty 4 is running max setting 2xaa @1280x800 and running in the 40's.

Crysis (DX9) is running high except shadows, textures and shader quality which are medium, no AA @1280x720 and averaging 25-30 fps.

I'm overwhealmed and tickled to death with these new drivers at the difference they have made for my systems and props to the individual(s) who made them.

    Please share your experience.

Can you provide screen shots (with FRAPS) of Crysis? Everything I've heard suggests 25-30fps at those settings is not possible on that card...

How are you overclocking a ddr2 card to 650/490? Are you sure because I don't think the card can't clock that high. Mine can't even clock past 530/505. Even if you were able to clock that high it would definitely artifact.

And I'm confused your running crysis that high but cod4 that low?

I can run the COD4 demo at 1680 x 1050 with no aa, all settings on max.

Not that I wouldn't like to see screenies as well, but Forerunner is getting similar results, and I don't really doubt him. He's playing all high DX9 at 1024x768 very smooth, or 1280x800 all high except post processing at medium (I believe averaging mid 20's) so I see no reason you couldn't play at 1280x720 with some high some medium and get 25-30fps.

Edit: Forerunner, 650 is a high, but not at all unreasonable core clock for an 8600M-GT, maybe your card just doesn't overclock very well?

my card's highest limit is core 620 and memory 510 but hang on 3dmark06 however it could complete FEAR performance test....weird enough.

I've never heard anyone overclock the ddr2 card that high. My overclocking is experiencing problems yes (don't ask) but no-one has clocked that core that high. Highest I've heard is 550-565 and mem was like 540-550.

My c90 which has excellent cooling is keeping my gpu idle at 65 and max under load at 80. With overclock 500/500 its keeping the gpu at barely 90.

I don't see how he can possibly clock that high and deal with heat. I'm still in disbelief that it can clock that high and run without crashing.

Also saw you fixed the very high shadows to high because that wouldn't be an option in dx9 mode.

Well, I took some shot with fraps but the damn fps counter did so up in them. How do you keep the counter on the screen shots?

Also, yes my card is at 650,490. It never artifacts and the highest I've seen the temp go is 60c.

Yeah. I think I may have found my problem. I was linking the shader clock to the core and overclocking with it? Is that what everyone is doing.

Also before when I did that, whenever I put a clock too high and hit apply my gpu would automatically clock to 168/100 and stay clocked that way until I restart.

Edit: Nope doesn't help. I left shader at 950, left mem at 490 and put core to 550 and my gpu did the clock itself down thing.

Sorry if I sounded accusatory, might have seemed like I was implying you were not telling the truth, I was just shocked thats all.

Yeah, the shader domain tends to crap out pretty low on the DDR2 cards, so for some games it may be worth it to lower the ratio.

as odin suggested try to push core clock first and see how high it will go. I believe you should be able to go higher than just 500 :p

I would say maybe 5 fps hit when taking textures to high. The big killer though is shaders and shadow. The will absolutely kill the frame rate. With the settings I have, like in a fire fight, the fps will drop to around 20 so 20-35 is what I am getting with those settings.

    These drivers look good.

However, I'm a total noob when it comes to graphics card drivers and overclocking and temperature...I attempted to install the 169.01 drivers and it's not working! The Nvidia setup tells me that it couldn't find any drivers that are compatible with the hardware. I uninstalled my previous drivers after this initial setup and it still gave me the same message. So, I went to the Nvidia website and downloaded the latest drivers (163.71) and it tells me the same thing when I tried to install those drivers! What do I do?

So I just download this "modified inf" file and replace what, where? I'm so new to this. :(

I'd love to get a 3DMark06 score of like 4000+, like the guy who posted his screenshots with the NP2090, it's nice to know that it's capable of that much power. :)

You need to download the INF, and copy and paste it into your extracted driver folder, overwriting the original INF. After that you can either run setup.exe from the extracted driver folder, or use the "Have Disk" method described on LV2G.

The drivers did help. And as was said before, if you really want to boost your frame rate drop the shaders and shadows the low. After just putting them to low it easily got me a good 30-40 frames most the time with everything else at medium.

Okay...I'm having weird installation problems. I did manage to go past my initial setup block, but now halfway through, setup is telling me that I'm missing some files, such as "nvucode.bin" and it asks me to insert some disk!

I hope this is just me being dumb with modded drivers for the first time; anyone else know what's going on here?
