If you have Optimus all is routed through the igpu and I don´t believe you can set a refresh rate above your native. The options are probably greyed in Nvidia control panel, but give it a try.

We´ve had discussions regarding if it´s safe or not. As with everything running above default specs (GPU OC for example) there is a risk involved. You might reduce the lifetime, you might not. And if something happens when doing so your warranty might not cover it.

I believe my refresh rate wont kill my screen before I´ll buy a whole new laptop, though it would possibly be safer to reduce it some. I´m running at maximum stable rate, a single Hz above crashes. Might drop it 5-10 Hz.
If something does happen to my screen which isn´t covered by warranty well then I´ll have to pay for a new one and lesson learned.

With Optimus there is no resolution option in Nvidia Control Panel because it doesn't control it. You'd have to do it through Intel's custom resolutions, but it always says "exceeds maximum bandwidth" if you try to go over stock refresh.

Unless nVIDIA has a change of heart until then, you would need to get the g-sync version of the new GPU and an updated system BIOS in order to keep g-sync working.

I have a sagar np9377 and a chi mei screen or whatever it's called and I overclock mine to 80hz and ran it all day without issue. I put it back to 60hz though for warranty purposses. I could of went higher but stopped at 80hz couse I was just curious if it would overclock. Worked fine at 80hz for me .

    Go to nvidia control panel.
    Select change resolution.
    At the bottom select customize.
    Then select create custom resolution.
And the you can change refresh rate.
Make sure you select test after your done and it will let you know if it will work and then it will ask you if you want to apply the overclock.

I would increase little by little and test each time.

Let us know your results if you decide to try this.

I'm just explaining what I did. I'm in no way telling you to go do this. It's up to you to do what you want with your own computer.

I don't know if it will work with Optimus or with igpu.

If your system has Optimus then you can't do it through Nvidia Control Panel. You would have to do it through Intel graphics properties and it will probably tell you it can't go above the stock frequency.

Depends on which driver you have installed.

You can't screw anything up because it won't let you. It almost with 99% certainty will not let you go above your LCD's refresh rate with Intel's custom resolutions.

is gsync compatible with optimus? i would have thought it was a feature that's blocked unless you run in dedicated mode.
