back from my interview gotta go for another one monday. I played the game on my laptop .Does anyone know what fps the game is designed to run at? I get decents fps on 1024 x 768 (30fps) The handling is just WOW. When click left on the key pad you do like a u turn lol . The handling is way too exaggerated. Im glad the demo has multiplayerits huge bonus. gonna order 360 controller on ebay for this game and for dmc 4 when it comes out
-
I have a logitech g25 wheel, so if this game isn't better than Dirt then I don't wanna waste time to try it.
-
okay this game scales down really nice. Seems pretty well optimized. Alot options in the graphics area. You can turn off alot of things for better fps like shadows , crowds, blur etc. Which boots your fps by almost double. I can run the game now 1200 x800 with car detail on high on damage on high and i get 60 fps. I also turned off partical effect but i will turn it on just because with everything off there isn't much. feel free to add me on xfire
or steam to play online cheers !Drive safe lol
-
everything on ULtra, 1440x900 with 2xMSAA averaging at 50 FPS
extremly happy
-
ran great completely maxed at 1440*900.
for sure gonna buy it - I hope it gets achievements!!! -
-
im using $2 controller helps alot . Im pwning kids. But i lost my lead because it was sharp turn my fps.. droped to 25 from 40 i could make the turn i crashed.. then my fps droped again etc kept on happening again again .. for some reason it. I think its because my temps went to high . My temps right after i closed the game when i started lagging.
the reason my temps could be high because there wasnt much ventilation for the laptop because its on my lap and i in a blanket. Do you guys think thats the reason my fps droped? -
damn i couldnt chat, cant press home on my numpad
-
Hmm picture don't do the graphics justice. Run great on a 9600GT.
Control seems ok so far and seem to run better than DIRT. All details Max on 1280x1024. AA off.
-
I will post when I have the demo installed on my 8800m GTX SLI. But since Dirt plays maxed at 1920x1200 with smooth framerates I don´t see Grid would be any problem for my SLI setup.
-
sure it wont, but erm be careful you should create a SLI profile for it
-
Played with it a bit more. Ran like crap on my 8400M GS (O/C) until i lowered settings. Running 640x480 now and getting 30fps and it still looks pretty good. I can say it runs a lot smoother and more polished that DIRT and now it doesn`t slow down as much when there is many cars on screen. The demo doesn`t seem to allow you to select hardware accelration for audio thou.
Very arcady type gameplay as mentioned but its a lot of fun and the drifting is a good challenge to. Crash physics make for some interesting pileups. Like someone else said before it has a great sensation of speed. Looking forward to the full game.
Ahh bringing back the good ole days of games like sega rally where games designed not for realism but for gameplay fun
-
No trouble here running at 1920x1200 all maxed out, very very smooth
-
Mangus what SLI settings and driver are you using for this game? or you havent created a profile?
-
The game is horrid at the settings issue. In the handling department, man, the car spins like crazy when accelerating from blind spot.I always wear down my tires before finishing..
When an opponent bangs into me, I spin out of control, always.
But after winning 2 times, I guess the game shows potential.
But it`s the hardest racing game I`ve played yet... -
The best race game that Codemasters was done so far was the ToCa Race Driver 3... fantastic game...
After that only a bunch of sh*ty arcade games...
They are going backwards... -
why are you people hating it? cause its realistic?
-
Realistic? LOL.
I`ve been to some racing tours, live, and NO CAR spins like that when accelerating or being bumped into.
Not to mention the tire wearing in a few minutes.
I concur that getting on the grass or sand is grounds for flipping over or spinning.
But being bumped into at 50mph ? seriousely now... -
Are you joking? -
Eventhough I'm not that much into racing games I enjoyed it quite a lot.
And it ran surprisingly well on my Asus G1s:
1280x1024 - everything on max.
default GPU clocks: ~19-24 fps
OCed 520/1250/888: ~25-30 fps -
I didn´t create any SLI profile. Might do that and see if there is any difference.

The Forerunner Notebook Virtuoso
Yeah its not as great as I had hoped. TOCA was alot better. I think they were aiming for the segment of the market somwherer between GT/Forza and PGR. It ended up being way too arcadey. The AI is good in my opinion and overall a nice package but its not for the hardcore racer (which they weren't aiming for) but we'll see what they do in the final game.
-
They better stop making the car into a rubber bumper. I can`t stand being kicked off the track by a single touch, but when I bump into the AI, they stay on track, and I`m the one spinning.
However , if you MANAGE to stay on the track,it`s not that hard to win.
Never overcorner or understeer,if you start a spinning frenzy you might as well restart.
And for some reason, the announcer`s voice pisses me off -
The Forerunner Notebook Virtuoso
Lol yeah. Sometimes they are very late in announcing what happened. I'll be in 3rd and they will be like good job your in 8th. They should announce sharp turns, because looking at the minimap and driving sometimes is hard. Its a nice touch but it could be better.
-
Well after fine tunning my handling im liking the handling but i think it can be toned down a bit. But you for sure have to adjust your settings and when taking turn lay of the pedal and hit the brake and when you turn your steering wheel for a shop turn make sure you the turn it the opposite way. Ill play more today and give final thoughts on the game. Btw add me on steam on xfire , we can race online
cheers -
How do you turn off shadows

Well i dont seem to have many problems with my car using my gamepad, but when on steering wheel its like W00t
-
I don't understand this, but somehow I downloaded the 893mb demo from this rapidshare link I found through google:
http://rapidshare.com/files/113768812/grid_demo.zip
I thought the rapidshare file size limit was 100mb. Though you probably still need an account
I installed it and am playing it without problems on my G1S. -
I`d need a good gamepad for this one, my wrists hurt like hell from it.
But it seems that the game grows on you.As a nice challenge... -
how do most of u play this game: keyboard (i hope not), steering wheel, or controller?
i have an xbox360 controller for pc and wondering if this game would be good for it.
any insight would be appreciated -
You should defnitly use the 360 controller , it will really help with the car handling.
---
My game makes my laptop run really hot. graphics 90 degrees. cpu cores 60+ and then i lose fps... should i buy a notebook cooler? -
yes, basically your laptop is getting very hot then downclocking the GPU so it doesnt overheat, a cooler may help. Your cpu shouldnt downclock till around 85-90c, but ur gpu sure is at 90c. its a problem all performance laptops have, just have to find a good cooling pad
-
yup a controller will defenatly make handling easier, besides. its more fun
-
-
Anyone try it with an 8600mGT yet? I will download it overnight if no one has.
-
I've an 8600M GT. Thanks for the info & link. I'm having a blast with this one.
One thing that did frustrate me though was the fact that if you have less than 270M video Ram, the Max. resolution available is 1280 x 800. It seems codemasters don't trust us to decide what resolution runs best on our machine, for example, if I had an 8400GS with 512M RAM (OK, I don't know if they exist, but I'm sure you get my point !), they would let me choose 1440 x 900, but not with my 8600M GT, because it only has 256 !
It frustrated me because I was sure that my my G1S would be able to handle 1440 x 900, and I hate running any game at less than my monitors' native res. I'd rather play with lower settings if it means I can run at native res.
Anyway, after looking at the config files, I found the following:
res mem="270" maxwidth='1280'
in the file c:\Program Files\Codemasters\GRID Demo\system\hardware_settings_restrictions.xml and simply changed the maxWidth parameter to 1440.
Low and behold, I can play it at my native res. of 1440 x 900. So far, I've only played it with no AA, and shadows on low, (VSYNC ON, 16:10 AR, 174.82) but I'll try more later.
It runs well at the settings I'm playing at. I haven't noticed anything that warrants me lowering from my native res, but in time I'll probably try a bit of AA and see how far (if at all) we get.
Edit: Lavitz, maybe your machine is one that needs the sleep trick, just like my G1S does ???Last edited by a moderator: May 6, 2015 -
Lavitz, try undervolting the CPUs, that`d help lower the overall temp.

OK - Update time ASUS G1S 1440 x 900 (native, after modding cfg file (see my prev. post)
Wound up AA to 4x. The game even runs smooth at this setting. I've been wanting a devent racing game for my laptop for a while. Seems like we've found a winner.
OK, it's not a simulator.
I've been a car enthusiast since I could count that they had 4 wheels, owning a few nice cars, and participating in regular track days, and I've also been a computer enthusiast since the age of 7, and my conclusion is this; there aren't many things more enjoyable than pushing a performance car to it's limits (and beyond) on a track. However, when the characteristics of real-life are simulated as best as possible in what is considered to be a driving sim, i.e. Forza2 and such, the fun, as a game, is somewhat taken away. What I mean is that I find PGR4, and GRID (demo of course), much more fun than a game that does actually have much more realistic handling, braking, acceleration, etc. This certainly doesn't mean that I don't know what it's really like powering out of a sharp right hander in a 500BHP sports car, or trying to outbrake the guy in front before turning into a hairpin after being flat out down a straight, because I do, but there comes a point of attempted realism beyond which it becomes detremental to the enjoyment of the game(remember, after all, it is a game !)
I suppose, as far as an analogy is concerned, the only one I could give is that if someone was to release a "5eX simulator" game, that was hailed to be incredibly realistic. If we follow the route most seem to when it comes to racing games, then if it was incredibly realistic, surely it would be the most enjoyable game we'll ever play. Of course the reason it wouldn't is because there would be no feeling, and no matter how much they spent on development, graphics, and sound, there would never be any feeling, and that is why "real driving" sims can never compare to the real thing - no feeling. BUT - if we have a game that can still obey the basic laws of physics, and car characteristics, with some eye candy, and decent sounds, and change the physics somewhat to make it more fun, albeit at the expense of realism, then maybe, if they can get the balance just right, we do actually end up with what we're trying to create - A GAME that is fun, yet one that we can still relate to. -
Once you get the hang of the control and remember to stay ON THE TRACK and if you do,never steer in any direction, just slowly accelerate forward, the game gets easy.
You just need a very good ammount of attention. And the flashback feature is pretty cool if you total your car. -
OK, I've found the optimum, wound it down from 4XAA to 2XAA, because although there's hardly any noticeable difference in smoothness, it does feel that bit more responsive with 2xAA.
P.s. Make good use of the green tarmac on the apexes. The AI cars don't, and it gives you a good advantage. -
Just had a couple of games online. - Most enjoyable racing game I've ever played on the PC.
-
I ran at 1280 X 800 Ultra settings with T7200, 2GB of RAM and Go 7900GS@ stock. I had about ~15-20 fps but it runs fine. The graphics is stunning IMO. However, i can't not believe the gameplay. It's just absolutely unrealistic. I can't believe that the car is just like rubber, bouncing off everywhere.........Arrgh. i'd better of play Daytona USA. Yep, you read it right. Daytona USA.
-
im impressed
)
-
You need to change the settings for the input like this : 50%, 70%,5 ,and leave the rest as they are.
Make sure that you break when coming up to tight curves, don`t leave the track, and if you do, DO NOT STEER,go in a straight line and only accelerate till back on track, and don`t bang into others, avoid them.
Heck, I kinda like the game.Maybe because I loved Collin McRally in my younger days... -
Will try it, thxs eleron
-
WOW hit 71 MB/S downloading... but then download ran out

Hi all - I need some help!
Ive installed the game, and it runs fine. However I cant play it!!
When I try to create a profile it says 'Error Creating Profile'. I then cant go any further then the create profile screens. I have to manually exit via Task Manager to quit.
Is this because Ive installed into a different partition then the default, or because my Docs is in a different partition???
Please help! -
not sure but i think cause its for the docs issue, through installation it asks you where are the docs located (i think or maybe i'm just imagining) so i think that would be your problem man.
GRID demo anyone?
