judging by that little test they are now running....YES, that 400 mhz makes a big difference!
so i stand corrected.

Dox's 180.84 is not 64bit, if that's the one you are using.
Download this one:

and go here to read my other post how to do it:

Thank You. It helped. But didn't see the boos on fps thought.

What are your specs, geforcefan?
-
Okay, and your GPU?
Nice quad btw! -
-
resolution...
-
hummm, not to bad at all.
you can post that pretty quick.

aaaah, now we get to the real good stuff!...*LOL*
you know we we're going to have to run that through the ringer right?as many sli users around here trying to get 30 to 40 fluent frames with out sacrificing any detail..
. and you pop up with a cool 60!
nice tweaks for sure!
what about using your flash drive with readyboost? would that do anything?? -
there was someone here with a 4870 saying he was averaging about 70+ @1680x1050 riding around town...
hopefully with in the next week they will have a decent patch out. even if i can't play all high...i would rather play all medium, but at 1920x1200 res then to play all high at 1024x768 or 1280x1024 -
-
Yeah you can get the 512MB HD4870 for $200 now and the 1GB HD4870 for a little more, so 2 of those cards is around $500.
Beats the $500 GTX280 by a long shot...I wonder how 2XGTX280s would perform. -
yessir.
hey brainer..i have been playing for a bit. testing some things out. go it all working right..but get to enabling sli and start making changes...it crashes. but when i put it back in single gpu mode...seems to be pretty stable. im still testing things out.
-
3 more days for me .. /cry
-
looks like i still got 3 days left to practice...
-
60 fps when the night + rain hits the streets? Sorry I have a hard time to believe that until I see a screen with fraps counter in the corner.
-
i was running around for a hour right now...i got 150 fps...whooo hoooo!!
(indoors sitting still) *LOL*
man i wish my controller worked better. i keep switching between keybaord and controller. -
Anyone know if nVidia will release new cards during Jan 2009? I am trying to build a desktop and can't seem to settle on the prices of the current high-end cards...but I can't side with ATI either =/
-
-
guess nvidia is catching back up...

D*mn those 280 cards are still kicking butt, 2 of them together beat out the new 4870x2s!? Probably just a per-game basis thing though, I expect ATI to beat the 280s in other games.
@bwhxeon: So they are doing a 260x2 55nm but not a 280x2 55nm? -
-
Whydeydodatfo? Lower prices or something?

I just installed GTA 4 via Steam this morning.
I have an Acer 5930g (9600MGT GDDR3 - the John Lewis UK one).
Running on stock GTA 4 graphic settings it SEEMS runnable @ 1280x800
Thou all I did was drive a bit... run someone over... and errr kill a hooker.
Didn't suffer any stuttering during that time and it probably ran at 25fps.
But like i said, I only played 10 minutes before needing to goto work
BTW: Using Windows XP and old nVidia drivers. So will try out the DOX .40 or whatever they were version
Edit: Just realised that stock GTA settings are gonna be different for each PC lol.
So it was something like Med/High 25/25/4 or something. -
I would assume that's why. The lower end nvidia gpu's are usually just defective high end gpu's.

Johnksss nice 150 fps indoors, he he. I still want to see if that Nvidia guy runs the game at 60 fps when it´s night outside and especially raining. I have a hard time to believe that. Besides what kind of tweaks other than setting Frames Ahead and such? The game itself you can´t tweak much except those commandline commands if you mean those.
John what fps do you get with your 280GTX? If you can´t keep constant 60 fps outisde I doubt this guy can. Besides the game does not support SLI no matter what you do and a single 9800m GTX just doesn´t cut it at 60 fps outside it is basically an 8800GT desktop except lower clocks.
Well that chart over Call of Duty World at War. I see my 8800m GTX SLI notebook is up on par with those at 1920x1200. I mean come on 72 fps for the GTX 260 SLI. I have around that when I am running the game there must be something wrong with either drivers or any other for those guys. -
I ran the benchmark tool that comes with GTA IV last night and it told me I get an average of 26 fps on the settings/res I'm running the game at.
And yet fraps rarely shows above 23 fps, but occasionally on a deserted street corner the fps might spike to 35, on average I'd say I actually get about 18 fps...
So much for R* GTA IV benchmarks... -
Yes the Benchmarks is useless since it does not reflect how the game actually runs when you are driving around and especially in some areas.
-
Magnus, Call of Duty is the sh!ttiest Optimise for SLI due to old Engine.. (QUake 3 Engine)
-
Nah brainer actually it does not run on the Quake 3 engine. It´s the same engine as Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare and is a new engine written from the ground up.
Hmm I think it runs great in SLI, what drivers do you run with brainer? -
Hmm, cant play online? Keeps saying you are removed from the game, or connection failed...
-
-
I got the response now johnksss since you have the same laptop as him
Hmm by the way I think GTA IV with the textures set to High and Render Quality to Highest looks really great especially when it´s night. It really feels like you are in a real city with all that is going on around you -
Call of duty had the same problems with my SLI setup, and took 3 months to get solved , i guess i'll have to wait again..
using 180.84 now. -

CoD 4 a World at War run on the same proprietary engine. -

I found these settings the best playable so far for me though I just got the game. With these settings I get mostly 22fps, highs of 25fps and lowest 15fps.
I didn't notice any big changes in performance between the two drivers, they've been pretty much identical in game so I've stuck with 178.13 which has been by far the best for my laptop in all areas including stability. 180.xx drivers whilst offer good performance they don't wake up from sleep on mine unfortunately. I was going to try and live with that since 180.84 was GTA specific but it made my screen go wierd and crashed it after some normal usage and I had to force reset.
Kinda like this but worse as it was my whole screen.
http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/forum/index.php?s=&showtopic=21883&view=findpost&p=97186
Anyway I played the game at low texture settings at the same resolution and the game looked poor yet there was hardly any difference in performance so I went back to medium texture and render quality which make the textures much better. I can't think how high must look but it must be really amazing.
Pressing "P" adds blur to the game and I think this feature was used on the console versions to hide the aliasing. Here are screenshots. Whilst it does hide the jaggies and it doesn't affect fps I didn't like the image quality.
Some other screenshots.
I'm still playing around with the sliders. I don't exactly know how much vehicle density to put since this makes an impact on the cpu. At 1 the roads are empty with a few cars as seen in the screenshots.
As of now I am currently tinkering around between 5-15 which has been good and not had much impact on performance. I think I read somewhere that 33 was equivalent to the console, I did try that setting but it was bit too much for my 2.0 Ghz C2D.
I also tried the other console equivalents of 22 view distance and 10 detail distance and again it was too much to handle in my eyes.
What I can say is 1024x640 is so far the best resolution for me to play it at.
Anything above and the fps isn't good enough for me. This is a 1024x768 benchmark just to show how raising it even a little takes away precious fps.

Your welcome
though I think your gonna fare much better with your specs.

pcgamer08, thank you soo much for this feedback! couldn't ask for more!
Thank You! -
The less cad density the easy it becomes.
With this low car number it doesn't look like a city at all.
They screw PC games hell a lot with this bad code and bad shadows especially that must be mention. -
can some one please tell me how to REP that guy pcgamer08???....
saved me a lot of trouble..
thanx dude -

Managed to play for like 4-6 hours last night.
So basically Windows Live etc sucks crap. Register this bla bla, I just want to play the game and beable to save lol.
So I ended up installing Live, seeing its full of shi*t. Then playing GTA 4 in offline mode.
Anyhow, updated to DOX 180.42 or whatever helps for GTA 4.
And yeah its really playable on my 5930g.
Benchmark shows a fps of 24 @ 1024x800, but its REALLY playable. I tested out Textures on High and Render on Highest and the benchmark dropped to average of 23... But even then I'd think its playable. Somehow I don't need the high fps with this, unlike games like FEAR.
Not sure whats going on, but eh. I was just playing on Med/High/30/30/100/0 and played for 4-6 hours no problem.
BTW: PIBWASSER! I want some!

I totally agree. The numbers of cars is one of the most important to enjoy the game.
I would not play with less than 50 car density. It's just so nice the lane of cars at the red light!
