Thank you very much. Good performance again and no texture pop up.
-
Just how much worse is the new patch in terms of performance?
And how does TBoGT perform? I just bought it for 1200 MS Points on a whim, and I want to have some idea of what sort of performance to expect. -
if you get 30fps all high.
expect 25fps with trilinear filtering and low shadows, rest high.sliders the same -
Oh, that's not too bad, I guess. My laptop probably wouldn't handle it well, but my desktop should still be alright.
BTW, Eazy, still waiting for a link from you in the following thread for the config you mentioned a page back.
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=429156&page=8 -
ok for sure.. ill post it in the crysis for 260m thread
also..the exact fps lost is unknown because I dont know what very high means(trilinear or 16x af or 8x af)...so I did a benchmark of before and after, all maxed..
GTA IV VERSION 1.0.5.0
maxed= Average FPS: 27.50
GTA IV VERSION 1.0.6.0
maxed= Average FPS: 23.98
it runs at 87 percent compared to the old version running at 100 percent..
13 percent slower, only way to make that gap smaller is to use 2xaf. vs 16 -
Just gave TBoGT a try. The performance in terms of FPS for me doesn't seem all that much worse, but damn, the pop in is the worst I have ever seen, It's close to unplayable.
I don't regret it though, when I get a new rig, I'll still be able to download it as it is tied to my account, and 1200 MS Points isn't all that much to me. -
Some are getting better performance after using a Mod that allows you to tweak every single file you wish in EFLC. One guy has used the EFLC unlocker and the Ultimate Graphics Tweak (UGT) Mod. He said all stuttering has now disappeared.
-
I'm cofused about this, I get overall lower FPS but the gameplay is much smoother. I have no idea why it feels like this. I can post a benchmark up later today.
EDIT:
And here goes my benchmark test
-
After some tweaking here is my benchmark for GTA IV patched to version 6.

Many of your settings wouldn't even be recommended with some powerful Desktops in my opinion. Almost all of your settings are simply set to high. Detail distance of 100? Having shadows set to Very high when Rockstar has just increased the GPU dependency of them and mentioned future computers with more power needed to render them at full settings. Anistropic filtering at Max?
You can tone down many of those settings, get many more fps in performance but still not loose out too much in eye candy. -
After playing a few missions of the Lost and The Damned Download Content, it really reminds me of the TV series called Sons Of Anarchy. I guess every different episode of GTA is heavily influenced by some kind of movie.
-
Hello dude
I just saw your message!
Yeah, I know but I just wanted to try it with at everything high as you said
And yeah, I know the settings are way too high for a notebook
-
I think rockstar utterly failed with this patch:
-remove rockstar social club - nice, but you still need to log in everytime the game starts
-new shadows - now these are great! they look much better
-performance - It seems that the performance tuning has a bad effect on my system, i have less performance
-fix floating street textures - I still have a lot of texture popping and anomalies (eg: sometimes street textures disapear for a few seconds, mostly on the same places in the game, when i go play darts and returnn to the safehouse, the darts scoreboard can be seen flikkering on the tv, textures pop in way too late sometimes as well (not always, so it has nothing to do with detail or view distances))
still the game stays awesome , but more fixes are needed ! -
I get this all of the time with this patch.
Every time there is like blood or tire marks on the road/sidewalk, it's floating in mid-air, and I can see it through my character/car.
Is there any way of un-patching the game back to 1.0.4.0 without re installation? -
ah, yes that happens too
edit: no you can't unpatch the game :s -
You can unpatch the game if you dont have the steam version. I went back to the 5th patch.
-
How did you do it without uninstalling?
-
I went to play darts with Roman, and I fell through an abyss instead- Then got teleported on top of the car I was driving in the parking lot. Most bizarre easter egg if it was intentional.
But yes, I've encountered the glitches above---
Still a great game, just very annoying having to drive the route again each time I get killed. -
A lot of the time you can use the Taxi and trip skip to avoid a long drive. Also in the EFLC, they have created checkpoints so you no longer have to do long drives all over again which is great!
-
For some reason, your "doting" cousin keeps sending the same foul mouthed and abusive cabbie who grudgingly drives and curses you all the time- after the second trip, I wish I could shoot or blow the mofo away (I tried, but took down a ped instead).
What's an EFLC, and how do I use it?
Thanks!
BTW, you only get to use the cab after each time you either hang out or do Roman favors- -
EFLC = Episodes of Liberty City which includes both Lost of the damned and The Ballad of Gay Tony
-
Or you could just walks over to any cab on the street and hold F to enter as passenger.
-
i knew this was going to happen, i'm waiting months for a deal on GTA IV, in the end i can't restrain myself and buy it for 29.99€ on steam, now just one week later, its rockstar week on steam , 49.99€ for all rockstar games including EFLC !
Anyway, for those looking for a deal and that do not already own all gta games, bully, manhunt, max payne 1&2
GO GET IT ! -
Thanks- That's good to know. Maybe I should go back to reading the game basics and walkthroughs (although that can spoil the surprises).
BTW, the D2D version also includes EFLC (thanks for the def, KING19!).
Anyone know when the next update will be? Mine also hangs for 30 secs to a minute on occasion- I don't know if this is part of the update quirks, since I updated mine (or the install strongly suggested it) as soon as I got the game. I don't want to accidentally erase my savegames since I'm already over 50% into it. -
If the taxi is driving away, just whistle and he gets ur attention and he will stop x) .
-
Or give fatty Roman a call
@ K9 , why don't you back up your saved data just in case ? -
I've had this happen to me quite a few times already. After an interminable wait of a minute or so, it does recover. It seems to happens whenever I'm in the middle of a mission, so I wait it out, rather than risk having to start from last checkpoint.
-
thinkpad knows best Notebook Deity
Love Juice?? Wasn't that in Vice City? That's kinda another clue of where the next iteration of GTA will be...
-
Does anyone know how to toggle auto aim? I've been looking everywhere and I can't find how to turn it on for single player. Thanks.
-
if you are using a xbox 360 controller, if you hold the aim button half pressed its free aim, if you press it completely it does auto aim
dunno bout other controllers though -
There's no way to set it without using a controller?
-
I have no idea, since i only play gta with controller (it's pretty unplayable without controller imo)
-
No.
10. Char. -
Is there anyway to use a wireless xbox 360 controller and play and charge kit for the pc, or would I have to buy that stupid controller for windows? Thanks for all the replies.
-
paper_wastage Beat this 7x7x7 Cube
no matter what you do, if you have a wireless controller, you need some way to convert the wireless signals to something your PC understands... and that's where the USB dongle comes in...
complain to Microsoft for not using some standard for the communication(eg PS3/Wii uses Bluetooth)....
or get a wired 360 controller for under $25 -
You will need the wireless adapter thats is about $20.
-
Well would the windows controller be compatible with the 360 as well?
-
paper_wastage Beat this 7x7x7 Cube
you mean the USB dongle for working on PC, be compatible for the xbox 360?
the xbox 360 has that dongle built in for it's own use...
for PC, you need ONE usb dongle (per 4 wireless controllers that connect to that ONE PC), and ANY wireless 360 Controller can connect to the USB dongle(max of 4 controllers) -
Logitech Wireless Rumblepad 2 works just as well-
-
I prefer the xbox 360 controller, if i was you i would buy a usb wired 360 controller, most games for windows live enabled games support the xbox 360 controller out of the box AND the 360 controller is about the best controller out there ( i had the logitech and a thrustmaster before i got the 360 one)
-
I meant if I were to buy the windows-wired controller, would it work for my 360? I suppose I couldn't just buy a normal wired controller could I? I'm just asking in case I find a better deal for a normal wired one. Thanks for all the replies guys.
-
yes you can use the windows one on the 360 as well, and you can use a 360 one one windows, they are exactly the same, except that the windows one comes with a driver cd, but you can always download the driver from the microsoft website.
-
I prefer using an Xbox 360 wireless Controller, works perfectly without the restrictions.
-
I never really liked the wireless controller.
Cords never bothered me before wireless became all the rage, and I used to find myself going through batteries like no ones business.
I bought a play-n-charge kit, and that's pretty good. But I find it collecting dust while I use my wired controller.
Especially since I can switch them out between my PC and Xbox easily. -
Call me dense, but what do I need to make the xbox 360 wireless controller work with my notebook?
Edit:
found it!
Kinda expensive, though-- -
Any other advantage besides support for games for windows titles (GTA4 supports the rumble pad and I got Batman AA to work by using the XBOX 360 emulator)?
-
I just use Hybrid rechargeables that have the benefit of a very low discharge rate and long operating life similar to the non rechargeable ones (for anyone who may not already know). They last many weeks or more depending on play and settings.
-
I like the ergonomics better than the logitech one
-
I don't know what it is about this update, but I had to lower the graphics settings from what they were at before I updated in order to maintain playable framerates. Keep in mind that this is on a computer that should have no issues whatsoever playing any game that's out (a desktop with a Q9550 and Radeon 4890).
