So DSR and SLI play nice together on laptop SLI variants but not desktop SLI setups?
Edit: Wait, you're getting DSR options available with a 970SLI setup? I have no DSR option available with my 780Ti 2xSLI. It's a common thread on the GeForce support forums and elsewhere that DSR isn't available with SLI enabled (though a few have it with GTX 980 SLI setups).
Edit the second: Looks like it's the ROG Swift + SLI that's causing DSR to be unavailable when both cards are enabled. -

I don't disagree. But the unfortunate fact is that it costs what it costs, and if something seems to be trending a certain direction IMHO, it's better to suck it up now than whine about it later. Sure if there's only a few current games you plan on playing over the next year or so and replacing your laptop then, then it's not a big deal. This is what is turning me away from that newer thin Clevo though, the fact that it "only" comes with 3GB and 4GB versions of the 970m and 980m, respectively. Six months ago I would have thought you were nuts for wanting more than 3GB or 4GB, but now it's clear what game developers are leaning towards with the console ports, I'd think long and hard about getting the larger amount of vRAM.

Good comparison video. GTX 980M performs like a GTX 780 (almost). The 980M has bigger dips in some games.
The GTX 970 is a boss.

Ohh! Apparantly, schenker is a reseller of the p35w v2
http://www.mysn.eu/shop/xmg-c504.html?___store=default&___from_store=default
You can customise everything here.
Hopefully they will sell the p35x v3 as well, so i can customise it to my hearts content, which will be:
3k display
Gtx 980m
I7 4710hq
No msata drives
1TB hdd
2x8gb quality ram
Jam a crucial MX100 512gb (they dont make 1TB versions... *sigh*) in the Hot swappable ODD (who needs a disk drive when you have internet?). Will be using this as my main drive.
About 2000 euro price tag (hopefully)
Maybe a few years down the road i need more storage space. Then i will add two 512gb msata drives and raid0 them, making them my main drive and use the other two drives (and a 2tb external drive) as storage drives.
This would last my entire college life and i would be a happy camper paying only 2000/4=500 euros a year

The same guy says 880m beats 980m by 20% in the same sequence in a different video released also today, so 880m is better than 970? I wouldn't believe his benchmarks too much.. Bro, you gotta do this comparison yourself, when is your 980m going to be delivered??
GRRRRR, I am more inclining towards p35x v3 with 3k panel atm
I am changing my mind like once every second, I NEED HELP!

I still think it's too early for 3k/4k gaming with a single GPU. 980M SLI would be a different story.

The great thing about 1440p, 1800p (won't touch 1620p) and 2560p is that they interpolate down to 720p, 900p and 1080p exactly 2:1. I've been using upscaling for years, usually 720p, when a game doesn't perform on lower-to-mid end GPUs at a native 1440p (2:1) or 1080p (3:2) resolution.
A lot of users want the extra desktop/sharpness in text, but recognize a GPU isn't going to be able to push it. Desktop-wise, I wouldn't use 2560p on Windows 7 though, although using 1080p will solve the problem. I'd only go 4K on Windows 8.1, GNOME Shell or, most ideally, MacOS X. But I've really been impressed how well GNOME Shell looks at 1440p and 2560p compared to Windows 8.1.Cloudfire likes this. -

And yeah, the video was posted earlier in this thread. -
I guarantee you that test is a piece of crap. They used a 4.3GHz 3770K to test the desktop chips and a 3.3GHz 4710HQ to test the laptop chips. Those gains are ALL CPU.
And AGAIN, they mis-labelled the boost of the mobile CPU as 3.5GHz. That's single-core boost, not quad.Last edited by a moderator: May 12, 2015Cloudfire, moviemarketing, Cakefish and 2 others like this. -
Have to ruin a man's day, huh?
Yeah, I figured it wasn't spot on accurate. But it gives us an idea of the real-world performance. I love FPS results just as much as benchmark scores, maybe even more.maxheap, Robbo99999, Ningyo and 1 other person like this. -
Just stay out of the comments section, as every with DF articles on gaming laptops, it's completely revolved around price and ignores most of the points made above.

I wish Gigabyte used i7 4702hq instead of 4710hq in p35x v3. That 10W difference could have made it much more efficient for cooling, also I don't think 3.5ghz to 3.2ghz would bottleneck the gpu too much, rest of the stats are the same.

Well that's it. After reading all 207 pages of opinions on this forum, I have finally purchased the P35x V3 CF-1. Now the wait. Cakefish I think we get ours on the same day.

The 880M outperforming the 980M in DF's video I posted earlier? That was a mistake (unsurprisingly) and has now been fixed in a new version they've just uploaded:
All aboard the Gigabyte train!
I have mine set for Saturday delivery, so if it is indeed dispatched next week, I'll be getting it on the 8th (tempted to change it, if I can get delivery for Thursday 6th specifically, as I have that day off). Anyways, it'll be very interesting to see what the differences between your CF1 and my CF2 are!

That's not a ruination of your day... that's saying that "the performance would be closer if they used a weaker CPU on the desktop chips", which is to say that the 980M isn't "as weak" as they're showing in this video.
-
I was just joking.
-
Any know when we get the ASUS G751JY in the UK?
-
No, it will certainly not worth it.
-
Any tickets left?! My fingers are crossed 24/7, if they cooled down the top of the laptop a bit (50C is just way too much, but I might buy into a 45C version
Cooling pads for the win!), this will be a no brainer

Why did u chose tje Gigabyte P35x v3 over the MSI GS60?
-
Use ThrottleStop or XTU and limit your CPU if you want. IMO this is better than getting a 35W CPU, you can always downclock/undervolt a 45 watt CPU to the right level.

Just guessing, but probably had to do with the 970m in the GS60 vs 980m in the P35x.Arthedes likes this. -
Oh.

My fault -
Primarily for aesthetic reasons. I really dislike the look of MSI laptops. They scream 'Gamer over here'. The gigabyte also houses the gtx 980m, whilst MSI currently only offer the 970 version with just 3gbs of graphics memory. I read a lot about future proofing on this forum, so I decided to get a laptop that could sufficiently play games in years to come. The GS60 really did tempt me with its beautiful 3k screen, but I thought why not get a similar IPS screen and a more efficient graphics card in the gigabyte p35x. I don't know what the fps will be like with a 3k screen, but honestly I don't think I'll even notice. I'll go from playing gaames at 8fps max with my god awful AMD graphics card to a fabulous 40+ fps.moviemarketing, Cakefish and Sandwhale like this.

I honestly doubt there will be much of a difference. I was so torn between the 1080p resolution and the 3k one, but I thought I would always wonder what the 3k version looked like, so I went for it even though had a strict budget in mind :/ Does your's currently say 'outstanding order' by any chance?Last edited by a moderator: May 12, 2015

I have a feeling we will get some this week, ETA on overclockers.co.uk is 31st this month

I will wait for the new Sager models with ips screen options. Unless the MSI GT62 Dominator comes out this holidays.
-
Any idea when would they be available?
-
Well the new Clevo model is already out with Aftershock S-15, Sager is still trying to offload their old models. MSI GT62 hopefully sometime this year.
-
Yeah, it's listed under that category with the order status 'unknown'. Kind of feels like we're in limbo at the moment!
I'm hoping the ETA holds true and we can start tracking our orders by the end of the week! Gigabyte rep confirmed to me that everything was still on track for the ETA of 31/10, as of Friday 24th.

What?
Edit: i understand now. The 4780hq is worse than the 4710hq. The clock speed is lower. It has a better iGPU tho... If thats your thing...

Excellent thermal paste!
GELID Solutions > Products
Kinda feels like a improved Noctua NT-H1(ripoff) And you really do not need the applicator =)
I know IC Diamond is great, never tried it.. but read enough about it i would say. And i would maybe use it on a g751/750.. But it does have diamond dust in it, and i would have been afraid to wear down the top of my chip's (as one who enjoys a cpu/gpu repaste) Got a fella who have used it for over 4 months, and from day 1, the temps have dropped by 2 degrees  Also asked him if the paste had dried up in the tube, and he said still perfect after 5 months in 25c ambient storage. Finally a replacement for my nt-h1

)?(Q%&)?(&%#)Q=/%&%#(/=%&damn
How did it effect the temps?
Edit: reading that thread now. -
If i have the time i will buy every paste available in the world and do a test when i get my 970m 980m....
Does look like he have negative pressure on it tho.. all the paste went one way..
Edit: (and the money) -
Yeah Ethrem got stuck with a pretty bad CPU heatsink that doesn't have very good contact pressure.
As for thermal paste testing, here's one thread I recommend since testing is done on a bare die instead of with the IHS on (laptop CPUs don't have an IHS).
For a more traditional review with desktop chips that have the IHS, Tom's has an excellent piece available. It's worth noting that for desktop chips, Gelid GC Extreme was the best non-metallic paste regardless of mounting pressure. -
... does it need a replacement? I've been using AS5 forever, and just decided to try NT-H1 for the next paste job ($6.99 for the tube). Anything I should know?
