yep, the outer dimensions are indeed exactly the same with the 770 and the 775. they just rearranged the internals of the 775 in order to make room for the 980![]()

Its not the P775DMx, that not only looks different from the P770DM but also has other dimensions etc...its a simple mistake that they have the card on that order page.

It doesnt matter if you draw power from the PCIe port or through the USB. It will all add up to what the PSU can deliver anyway. 9W extra power require you to remove two devices that you previously used with the two USB ports when you reached the PSU limit. Unused USB ports in itself doesnt use anything, they are in a sleep state.
Theoretically you could skip the mouse and get additional 4.5W free from that port, but have you tried gaming with a touchpad?
That said, just because a USB port can deliver 4.5W, doesnt mean the unplugged USB mouse actually used 4.5W

@Cloudfire: no problem, just hook up an additional psu to the usb port!

hmmm....quickcharge for laptops?

Think of it as a sine wave, At same frequency the voltage is delivered but each step out of phase will make the valleys less deep, hence a more smooth delivery. (Maybe bad explanation but best I can think of)
Single Phase:
Two Phase:
Four Phase:

Do we know what the upgrade price'll be from other sellers yet?
Judging by the starting prices of the new MSI and Asus, the premium Nvidia is charging seems to be pretty high. -

The GTX980 apparently is around 400$ over the GTX980m. Expecting the other resellers to price it slightly lower considering Mythlogic builds its own laptops from the barebones and hence has a slight price increase over other resellers like Xoticpc, powernotebooks, LPC etc.moviemarketing likes this. -
Hi guys,
I've been reading all these comments and I'm super excited to see this kind of power in a laptop, even though I bought my laptop two weeks before the 980m came out, so I'm stuck with the 880m for a couple of years at least... Anyway, I was wondering if my system might be able to accomodate the gtx 980, possibly a cut down version due to the chassis and power requirements, and if even in that case it would really be better than an overclocked 980m. I know that it's all mostly speculation so far, but I wanted to know what your thoughts were. Thanks.
This is my laptop:

Would be a fantasy to try to fit in one of those "low wattage" 980s into an Alienware 17 R1 2013 model?
-
at this point, anything is still possible
the three major culprits would be to get sufficient power to the gpu without an external power cord, to physically fit the longer board into the machine and lastly, to somehow get/build a heatsink that would fit that longer board...

Well the low wattage versions don't need an extra power connector.

we know that for the 150w version, but have no idea yet what the gt80 sports... from that leak over at TI it looks like the 120w cards still have an external power connector... even if it wont really need it, strictly from a power-delivery point of view, i wouldnt put it past ngreedia to include some kinda vbios block if the external power cord aint connected...

None of the models posted there is 120W, they are all in the 150-200W class.

in that case, lemme rephrase: we dunno jack about the gt80 cards yet, period
(at least not officially, no idea what witchery is brewing in prema's secret phoenix lair at any given time

Guys, I just stumbled upon this review, seems great, altough the cost of the laptop would rival one with 980m SLI, what's your take on the benchmarks?

well with some OCing this thing beats a desktop 980 stock...impressive. That price? outrageous. I was expecting it to be around 2700-2800. -
I was thinking about SLI performance vs single GTX 980 for the price, since I don't know how is SLI support for older cards. So, can the somewhat lower cost of dual cards and performance scaling compensate over time compared to a more powerful single GPU?. -
I'll say it again: I have video evidence of a time when a fully decked out GT72 cost more than a P377SM-A with the most similar hardware I could get, except that the Clevo had a 4910MQ instead of a 4980HQ and two 980Ms instead of one. Both were from XoticPC.deepfreeze12, TomJGX and jaybee83 like this. -

Used to be Alienware was the most expensive. But Alienware have made a lot of changes recently to reduce manufacturing/maintenance costs and no all changes in benefit to customers. Now they are more reasonably priced than MSI, how ironic.
Clevo used to be close 2nd behind Alienware, but that was because Clevo had more power and features than any other gaming notebook, so it was a deal considering was less than AW.
Asus was affordable, I bought their top of the line 5870M 17" notebook for $1495.
Clevo and AW for the most part have become more affordable but consistent in pricing. Top tier for MSI and AW have sky rocketed from $1500 to $2200-$2800.
