All i need right now from MSI is gs60 pro, 1080i, 970m with i4710/12, super raid and 16gb ram![]()
For portable work with word/excel/mail and web browsing i have far more suitable machine - sony vaio pro i7, 256 ssd, 8gb ram, aprox 7h of battery life -light as feather, i can definately recomend it to anyone, since its ultraportable, damn fast, with great display and below 1kgAlthough gaming its not rly possible on it (even d3 on minimum details and downscalling resolution is unplayable due to stupid intel 4400)
-
I think mine was Friday too! Nvidia timed failure prompting upgrade path? Reminds be back in the Vaio days when laptops would fail literally a few days after warranty ended, many believed it was a timed strategy.Mr Najsman and D2 Ultima like this.

Wow that's just horrible.
I'm working with xotic right now... This is my second replacement since I got the machine in May. Ugh.
Doesn't that look so nice? *sigh*

Lol Xen - I'm glad someone else out there went through the same process I did. No place out here to physically lay your hands on one of these rigs, so have to do the buy/trial/return method unfortunately. And ya, I hear you on the scaling issues. Like I said, I just really enjoy the 3K/4K resolutions and am willing to sacrifice some in game features for everything else it brings. I see in Charlie's response after yours he's dead set against that - like I said, it's not for everyone, we each have to pick what works best for ourselves

when they claim that Maxwell does support DX12: do they mean GM204 in special or Maxwell in general? because Maxwell in general would mean GM107 (GTX860M and 850M), too. and even if it still unclear, wether DX12 will also come to Win8.1 at all, this would be great news for all people with laptops with the GTX860M (minus those machines with Kepler-chip).
-
GTX 980M and GTX 970M is finally confirmed GM204.
13c2 GM204 [GeForce GTX 970]
13c3 GM204
13d7 GM204M [GeForce GTX 980M]
13d8 GM204M [GeForce GTX 970M]
From our previous big thread
NVIDIA_DEV.13D7 = "NVIDIA N16E-GX"
NVIDIA_DEV.13D8 = "NVIDIA N16E-GT"
NVIDIA_DEV.13D9 = "NVIDIA N16P-GX-B"
There is one GPU that isn detailed yet: N16P-GX-B.
Since its 13x aswell, it is another GM204 GPU. Most likely the GTX 960M.
So there you have it, the mobile GPUs launching this year. GTX 980M, GTX 970M and GTX 960M. All GM204 and all a huge jump from the 800M series
Mr Najsman, lcxli and Kaozm like this. -
Can you share link to this "final confirmation" - i could not find anything official abt this matter
-
Since 900m is as soon as it can be, I think we should create a thread about which notebook will be the best one, and which one we are intending to buy. Just so we can all agree which one worth our money!

Nvidia havent said anything regarding the GPUs. But we know everything because information leaks out anyway, just more subtle. You just have to know where to look
Here is why GTX 980M and GTX 970M is GM204
-
So are you guys really going to buy the 970 or 980 mobile cards in a new laptop or wait for pascal ?.
-
I am definitely buying a new laptop with 970M but I think I will wait for Broadwell in combination with it
... but maybe I will reconsider my words and as soon as it will be possible the new GS60 will be mine !
ATI Radeon 5750 is simply not enough to game at high settings and 1366x768 window mode
( and having something what can compete with desktop graphics in such a light/portable machine sounds simply crazy and amazing :O

Here is one for your collection Astrongtower. I already posted benchmarks and reseller few weeks ago though

Are you crazy? We are talking 2016 for Pascal. No way I`m doing that

Is there a release date for the mobile cards yet or are we left wondering?

Sounds like a plan charlie i wish you luck with your new laptop when it finally gets to your hands mate.
I am waiting for pascal myself but depends what broadwell are like and if nvidia refresh the 900 series mobile line that could be a deal for me i would love a 980m refresh that beats gtx 780 ti.
But i think that my mind is already made and by the time pascal comes out i will have saved up enough to afford a new laptop and possibly enough to buy a second dog i want a siberian husky boy with blue eyes <3. -
Pascal rly? Isn't that going to be released at 2016? I would wait because of move to 14nm but i cant wait that long, collage is pushing me to get better laptop and also gaming

Several posts were deleted and some posts were edited in this thread.
@Astrongtower: The link to your own thread is, technically speaking, both legitimate and on topic. However, since you have posted it numerous times in numerous threads already, I think we can safely assume that all members with interest in this topic are now aware of it. Tijo already pointed this out to you yesterday in this very thread ( here). If you did not see that warning, it is an indication that you are more busy spamming the threads than actually reading them.
So no more spamming of that thread, period!
Another matter is abusive posts calling other members idiots. Such posts (now deleted) are NEVER permitted on NBR and infractions have been issued accordingly.
Now please carry on with the Maxwell discussion

There is nothing certain yet, although few different sources points in the direction of 8.10.2014 (so in 2 weeks time).

There is no point of w8ting for pascal unless you know that you will be short on $$$ in upcpoming months
With 970/980m coming up soon (hopefully) the upgrade will be very noticable even for 8xx m owners (performance+temperatures). After getting confrimation from MSI abt gs60+970m introduction just after official release of GPU by nvidia I simply cant w8 till I pull the trigger on this beauty

Theirs a lot of patience needed but the reason i would happily wait is probably because i am happy with me current laptop for another 1-2 years.
The games i play will run fine on medium to high settings and i am very content with this. Pascal will be a worthy upgrade in 2016 i will still be very young only 26 by then verging on 27 so to me i am not ready to upgrade yet im only a baby still but i could get the older people doing it to be honest they probably don't have much patience ;p.HTWingNut likes this. -
Fair enough. In my case - for gaming i only have a 3y old desktop with gtx280 and e8400 - still able to play d3 in decent settings but lack of portablility and possibility of playing in new games is killing me
970m with quite portable gs60 is perfect for my needs. -
Well my desktop is old 4 years especially the CPU but graphics card is 5years old and it was not even Highend graphics just mid-end so I really can't wait for the results of GS60 with 970M :3 If there won't be any problems with temps with stock thermal paste, I am definitely going to buy it even if they don't fix the fans.
-
I hear that - my desktop and laptop are both Core 2 Duos with ~9600GT graphics
I'm going to push it as far as I can, but I may have to deal with the hot 870m as well.
-
No, that Quadro 770m is like a 9600 m gt which only shares the name, not the power with the desktop 9600 gt, quadro 770m, 9600m gt, 9650m gt are like a desktop 9500 gt
-
That just makes it even more urgent for me to update, even if it is only to the hot 870m. Also, it's like a 9600m, only not nearly as good
Although I think he may have been saying he would go with the 970m even if they didn't fix the cooling, and if it's announced soon enough and within my budget, I may do the same.charliex3 likes this. -
Don´t worry, you are not alone, my laptop has a 9650m gt, and what is worse, a ddr2 one, XD

Questions ringing in my mind:
1. No USB 3.1 Type-C 100W powered port.
So if Asus is not implementing, not a good sign for 2014 (Only in 2015)
2. He did not mention which HDMI port (I hope its HDMI 2.0 and not 1.4)
3. Was there a displayport 1.2 is missed?!
+ Thunderbolt - Awesome!
+ Got rid of USB 2.0 - Finally!
+ In-Game video capture software - Nice!
+ Steam button - Much appreciated.Last edited by a moderator: May 6, 2015 -

Asus are now using optimus only so following the same trend that would mean no hdmi 2.0
-
I'm guessing Sager will also go with Optimus. Which means no HDMI 2.0 on them too.
What are you thoughts - when will it finally show up on consumer laptops?
OR
will it never show up until this optimus implementation continues! - whats the deal? Is there no other way HDMI 2.0 could be implemented on laptops with optimus. -
IPS Screen on that Asus 751?
How bad is the update lag really compared to TN panels really? Is it really noticeable since I play FPS games.
-
Wow. I really like that. I already am impressed by the cooling on last model. But that Steam button, as unimportant as it may be, it is frigin awesome. Anyone else do that before? If only they made an SLI version. But I still might go with this model anyway because of the engineering.
-
What for? You can asign any program/sequence of buttonz to almost any particular button (for eg. in MSI) so acctualy claim for dedicated steam button makes no sense to me... also (if any producer go with steam but) should we have 2nd buton just near steam one, dedicated for orgin?
-
Not all Sager machines have Optimus. A sure-fire way to make sure you don't get Optimus is to get a 120hz screen.

Update, or should I say lack-there-of, from Razer. Freaking company answer. Lame.

You expect a company to risk their chip supply and development support from nvidia to answer your question?

I did not know that. Diminishes the value of that button. Lol, I had to look up what "origin" was. I hate using the Ubisoft client the way it is after buying and downloading a game on steam. I'll have to look into that hotkey feature you speak of; did not know you could do that.FuDoW likes this.

Tbh i was rly supprised that MSI gave me this tiny little bit of info when I asked them - thumbs up / +1 for them

Look what i've just found : msi ghost pro (gs60-2qe) ,i4710, IPS 3k, 970m (ugly golden version) - for around 2300 EUR
More info here - Pc Portable MSI G Serie GS60-2QE Ghost Pro - Tunisianet -
For $2955.00 USD what is so good about it? The G751 with gtx 980m on that foreign website is listed for $1900.00 usd with a better cpu too and, as we are assuming from last version, a much much better cooling system. Thats way more than I am willing to spend for 980m SLI. I guess some people will pay the extra for a thin form factor. But that is really expensive.
-
Well, its an offer from africa and pre-official introduction of 9xx gpu - i can bet that price in Eu/Us markets will be far more adequate.
As to g751 - its 17" (for me its simply too big), its less portable (too heavy), its Asus (simply dont like it, it lacks the MSI spirit/flair).
So yea, there are going to be some ppl willing to pay extra for slim/portable high-end solution (or at least 1, since im definately going for it as soon as it will be available in my country).charliex3 and LostCoast707 like this.
