Which notebook is it? That link just shows listings for "laptop."

About that Asus G751 (with 980M) at "shark.sk" , It's one big company from my country, so I asked them about when should be the laptop available for buying - they replied that it should be available for customers at around 7. October . After that respond they deleted the page with both laptops (980M/970M) - I guess they shouldnt show them before they are officially announced with 9xx cards .

Yep I did the same
and I was also sad that at 7. October
And from MSI didn't exactly sad that it will be in the middle of October but i guess it's the right time
-
well i will have a clevo laptop with 980m's in sli. im just waiting on the release date as my 880m sli laptop is sitting at scan because of throttling issues
-
970m/980m for 7-11 October 100% -
I am so getting a 970m...
They kick the crap out of the 800m series, possibly the biggest leap in mobile graphics since the 600m series was released. New games will run fluently at 1080p at max for at least 18 months, and your beloved older games (RTS, mmm) will mostly run 3k/4k without any issues.
Finally, we are getting what can be considered "higher-end" desktop class cards on laptops NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980M - NotebookCheck.net TechFuDoW likes this. -

980M vs 880M, speculation stats, but GPU Boss is typically pretty spot on. -
Just tried editing the URL to see if there were 970M stats too, there are! Interesting seeing the comparison between 980 and 970. -
I've checked GPU Boss site for unconfirmed/unreleased cards in the past, however, never really know where they pulled their information though...
-
I revieved another info about Ghost Pro 970m directly from MSI - at first only 3k screen version will be available, but at least they are going to offer it in both dark and gold color
Unfortunately they could not disclose any information about the premiere, but still i believe that 7-11.10.2014 looks preety solid -
Does anyone have the gold color and can comment on it? I'm afraid to buy it and despise it. I'm just afraid of how yellow it will look. Silver would have been better.
-
I don't particularly see those websites as necessarily reliable.
Good for basic info... but I doubt they would be a good indication on which product is actually better.Mr Najsman and Tonrac like this. -

looks like Asus has a better performance -
The 4860HQ runs only 100MHz above 4710HQ so its neglible difference. What is better on the 4860HQ however is the IGP. A ton better. So if you plan to use the IGP on gaming instead of the beastly GTX 980M, that Asus notebook will be ideal for you yes.
Me personally would pick GT72 for other reasons such as having the option to change the GPU further down the line, not to mention the easiness of repasting the GT72 notebooks. Asus G-series is hell compared -
-
ASUS isn't gonna suddenly pull an about-face. Their G Series notebooks have been impossible to disassemble since the G73JH, which I used to own. ID and presumably internals have changed little since that 5-year-old machine.
-
No but seriously i'm not evensure if the battery is removable or not? Have they hidden away some sort of lock somewhere to.. Plop out that piece of alu? Are the new heatsinks been twisted around? is it now possible to access from the bottom??
View attachment 116052 -
Yes, exactly. I am just thinking that they still will stick to their money grabbing business of using non upgradable weird MXM modules to force people to buy new machines from them instead of just buying a new video card.
I think Ive seen the bottom of the G751 somewhere and you only had access to HDD and two SO-DIMMs I think, so it looks like they are gonna make repasting still difficult.
But sure, would love to see them use normal MXM modules like the rest. Its one of the few reasons why I hesitate to buy their notebooks. Their notebooks are solid elsewhere -
Ok then, final question.. (for now:hi2
How much better preformance are we talking from that asus cooler compared to other's? if it is incredibly better and you would not have to repaste after twice+ the time? kind of balances it out tho? ( if )
It is absolutely possible to dissasemble that g750, just takes longer and you should have done it a few times before.. Youtubeftw.. -
The G-series cooling systems are top notch for sure. Low temps and low noise. In my opinion the MSI GT72 looks to come pretty close to it if you look at reviews.
Alienware are good too with low temps, just a little more noisy, except the Alienware 18, it output less noise than the Alienware 17, which was one of the reasons why I bought i. Same goes with Clevo, they are not so balanced as Asus in cooling/noise ratio.
All in all, it just depends what you prefer. If you can live with a little noise, you get much more options. Each brand have its unique trademark which makes them interesting.
Clevo - great value - many options for tweaking and upgrading and repasting. A little on the noisy side.
MSI - Same as Clevo, only more expensive and have lower noise on the GT72 models
Alienware - Expensive but great warranty options. Easy to upgrade and repaste. Except AW18 which takes a good deal of work to even get down to the heatsinks and hardware
Asus - Semi expensive, great cooling, bad repasting protocol and virtually none upgrade options except HDD and VRAM -
As someone with the P170SM-A (with an 870M), I'd like to have a chance to upgrade to the 900M series (Or beyond) a few years from now - How likely is it that I'll be able to get my current GPU replaced with a newer one? What would that depend on?

Generic VGA video card benchmark result - Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4940MX CPU @ 3.10GHz,Notebook P17SM-A
4860HQ runs at 3.5GHz and 4710HQ runs at 3.4GHz. Virtually identical.
4860HQ have the Iris Pro IGP while 4710HQ have the HD4600. Iris Pro is muuuch better, if you want to game with tje IGP.
Dont look at the numbers in the CPU names, thats how they get to you and trick you
The 4860HQ cost much more than the 4710HQ so if you are like me and buying a notebook with 980M to actually use that 980M, its money wasted.

Sager is already slashing prices on 880M/870M prices (up to $325 off). So I'd imagine October 1st is looking more realistic by the day.

Unless it's in the next hour or so, it won't be soon enough -
The leaked slides that picture came from also had leaks of the 980/970 slides that actually got used. So I would be very surprised if it was not a true leak. (That said there is no guarantee those companies will not have changed their lineups by the time of the actual release.) -

Wonder if Asus will release this with the stated 860m or update it to the new 900m series before they launch it?

I could actually see going for the GX500 !!! IF !!! they give it a decent cooling system. The nx500 it is based on was throttling on a 850m maxwell, so I would definitely wait for reviews though.
For gaming, and well pretty much in general I would prefer it had a WQHD (1440p) or 3K screen, however the 4k screen they have on it looks pretty epic in nearly every other regard.
Approx 100% aRGB and NTSC color gamut (may want to restrict it to 100% sRGB for gaming but even thats rare to find)
740:1 contrast (not the best, but very good)
gamma 2.1 (again very good)
it is really one of the best displays you can find on any laptop.
Also has a very solid build quality
and lots of other good points.
That said it WAS a Pre-Production sample, and I have not been able to find reviews since.
on it throttling too, only the CPU throttled not the GPU, but that was while gaming, not during a stress test, and a far lower TDP GPU. Of course they may have fixed the problems, and if they did it could be a really nice choice, especially if you also do things like art/video editing. -
The screen quality is important and the added resolution for productivity is welcomed. I don't need to game at 4K, and scaling to 2k works good enough. I have a 4K TV and it displays 1080 content just fine, unlike 1080 monitors/tvs when playing with 720 res.
