Well... high end mobile GPUs have always been pretty expensive. No surprise here. The 480m is still about 800$...

Any news about gtx 580m??A simple google search shows me this.
Nvidia GeForce GTX 580M detailed » hw-lab.com
GTX 580 mobile in the works -
" Performance wise, the card can be compared to Desktop GeForce GTX 560 Ti"
That's some serious performance for a mobile card. The 485m is between a desktop GTX 450 and 460, so that would be a big step up, like 25-30%. -
Well, the GTX 580M is a GTX 560 Ti, so it will all depend on how downclocked it is.
-
I really can't wait for it
, if the there's rebadged version of msi gt780r with this GPU , i will so gonna get one myself
-
Karamazovmm Overthinking? Always!
I dont think MSI do high end gaming anymore, otherwise they just lost 2 chances of putting high end gpus in there
-
So what performance increase are people guessing about 580M compared to 485M? The same as 460M -> 560M? Little more clocks and the same TDP? 10-15% increase?
-
Well i really hope for a nice and competitive price like the 6970m and not a absurd price tag like the 485m.
-
-
Man i would really like to go for a NVIDIA card but they just screw it up with their pricing.
-
^You and me both. I love Nvidia's hardware.
-
I have 2 k dollars to spend once i go to the US in August ;D
Guess which card I am aiming for. -
The only step up from the 384 shader 560 Ti would be the 480 shader GTX 570. That requires way too much power, to fit within a 100W TDP. -

Why can't the future be now already?
I want a 22NM die gpu shrink already!!!!
Power plus energy savings!! -
Forever we'll be thinking of future product because the technology won't stop improving , maybe in future you get a GPU with better efficiency in terms of energy saving but still we'll remain our "I-want-something-better-than-this" thought.

Be happy, that kind of thinking keeps this industry afloat!
Not only afloat, but thriving

Karamazovmm Overthinking? Always!
gpus always use halfnodes, so no 22nm

Karamazovmm Overthinking? Always!
aside the 65nm there were other nodes?
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
The one before at 90nm? Also 40nm is a whole node (55nm was the half node). Mostly the intel 45nm and TSMC 40nm nodes will be very similar in scale. The overall nm of a node means little until you look into the technical documents and design guidelines.

The 580m seems to be so close now....
Can't wait to see some benchmarks with this beast.
Especially with SLI. -
Well the 485m performed like a 560m (same shaders, ROPS, etc.), it was just underclocked.
If the 580m is a 560gtx, then it has the same shaders and stuff as the 485m, just newer architecture and higher clock. Then I would expect nothing more than a similar 460m->560m boost, around ~10%.
I wonder how it will compete with the 6990m -
Karamazovmm Overthinking? Always!
the 485m is a gtx 560
-
I just don`t understand why they use the 6990 name when the mobile version will have 1 graphic core instead of 2?!
-
You may get increased performance or you may get reduced power and heat (since the 485M was already a beast in performance). Typically Nvidia goes for for increased performance, but just keep in mind that some % of each is possible this time around.
-
But you are right. Would be nice if they stayed at the same frequency as 485M and released a cooler running card with GF114. Interesting. -
Mr_Mysterious Like...duuuuuude
well for people with excellent cooling systems in laptops (like mine), we would be more concerned about getting faster speeds than cooler temperatures, especially since this is supposed the new flagship mobile card from NVIDIA.
Mr. Mysterious -
They should have released both. One 485M v.2 for people looking for a cooler and quieter laptop and one 580M to boast as their flagship

True....let me have my excitement, even if it's fake, Ebenezer

Ken just confirmed the myth that gtx 580m is coming out

Edit: also a link would've helped. -

Dont know if this has been posted yet - NVIDIA teases a pair of mystery laptop GPUs running Crysis 2 (video) -- Engadget
Pretty sure that they are the 580m in SLi, if NVIDIA is showcasing them in SLi then pretty sure that the m18x will be getting them, cant think of any other laptop that will be, NVIDIA does not really use Clevo machines for showcase. -
If it is released and already demo'd on a machine in SLI then it's probably a Sager. AW never releases updated chips on release day.
-
copy paste from the thread in the sager section. the 580m is announced.

ZOMG. Is the 570M new too?
-
Well the 570m is interesting, if it can perform as good as a 6970m then it will ne a really nice alternative as its price is closer to that of the 6970m(og going by the pricing of the 470m).
-
Well, hopefully the 570M's pricing starts at where the 470M's ended, because the latter launched at over $700.
-
can't wait
, i'm going for my tertiary edu this october , do you think i can get one laptop with this gpu before that??
-
If 570M is anywhere close to 6970M and have 85W TDP (as Kevin said earlier) and is priced reasonably, I would buy the Nvidia asap.
-
Anandtech article.
-
580m is available for configuration at Sager reseller sites now. +$595 option. For NP8150 485m is only +$295 now and NP8170 +$395 now. Why the $100 difference?
So much for selling my NP8170 with 485m... -
-
All resellers have the 580m on their laptops. ETA early July.
