I would like to play with others from NBR. What is the name of the NA server(s) everyone is playing on?

would it be a lot more beneficial to run GW2 using 7970m than a 660m? Or would a 660m already run GW2 great?
I am debating whether I should return my laptop with a 660m for one with 7970m... -
660m: Run great at 1080p, yeah but not at maxed out settings 7970, maxed out goodness.
-
I'd be surprised if a 660m couldn't handle it pretty well maxed out once it's been optimized. The Asus G51VX-A1 I'm on right now (Q9000 CPU, 4GB RAM, 260M GPU w/896MB VRAM, 1920x1080 screen) played it "OK" at full resolution with middle-range settings during the last BWE and the stress test. I'd definitely play it a bit on the 660m before returning it. That said, the 7970m should surely play it maxed out without much trouble. I just ordered a new Sager NP9150 / Clevo P150EM with the 675m rather than the 7970m due to me running Linux mainly and Nvidia's better Linux drivers, but I full expect to be able to play GW2 maxed out once it's out of Beta.
-
GW2 is continuously being optimized still, so whatever framerate you got in BW1 is almost 100% likely to be lower than what you will get today in BW2, which will be lower still for the next BW and for release in the near future. GW2 devs explicitly stated (over on Reddit ask-me-anything thread a few days ago) that they are taking a gradual approach at optimizing the game performance.

On Yak ( which is full ), unfortunately I am not seeing any real improvement in performance from the last beta.
Bigger events dropping into single digits. How are peeps with 7970m doing? -

Does anyone else feel that GW2 kind of throws you into the world without any guidance? I feel like the NPC's are giving me quests to forward my characters story (which is great), but there is no mention of crafting or other skills. My inventory is filling up with a bunch of stuff for crafting, but I cannot use any of it because I cannot figure out where the trainers are. I am obviously only highlighting one issue, but maybe you GW1 veterans are having an easier time? I thought it would be easy to be accustomed with this game after playing MMO's for 3-4 years...
-
Well I know when I hit level 12 on my guardian this afternoon a little pop up thing told me about crafting and how I can specialize in two of them, just go talk to a trainer yadda yadda yadda.
I don't know what level you are but so far it's been a "learn as you go" experience for me. I didn't play the last beta weekend nor have I been keeping up to date with any info about the actual gameplay, but through basic trial and error I seem to be doing alright. And of course if you have a specific question you can always ask in-game. I've probably asked over a dozen or so and have gotten great responses that helped clear things up. -
AlwaysSearching Notebook Evangelist
Dont have to be a certain level as far as I know.
I think I was a level 3 when I entered a camp with trainers. A local came running up to me and gave a quick overview and then pointed out the trainers. -
Got back online and found the city with the trainers lol. Anyway, I would like to comment that the crafting system is very interesting. I am enjoying the salvage process and the discovery stage. Cool stuff.
-
There's too many stuff to do and so little time in the beta...
Anyways, spent today playing with my GW1 guild mates, so i'll have to spend tomorrow playing with the NBR crew. Too many people to play with too.
Also, the SSD in my desktop is having write problems, i'm pretty sure the controller is dying which doesn't help things. Regarding the 5870m, i personally have a rather fluid experience with high settings, no AA at 1080p, having a 920xm probably helps things since as far as i know, the game is still rather poorly optimized from the CPU side of things so i wouldn't be surprised if 720/740qm owners were experiencing issues due to that. -
I've been pretty burnt out on MMO's. I really liked WAR til the endgame turned out to be a complete mess. SW:ToR was awful. GW2 brings me back! -
I'm not much of a MMO fan myself (I don't like WoW, for example), but this game looks intriguing.
Is it better than the first Guild Wars? Because the first one felt somewhat bland and almost 'too balanced', if that thing is possible. No matter how much I leveled in the first game, I never actually felt powerful, just chipping away at my enemies' health.
How good is the second one in that regard? -
Both games are very different so it might be worth giving it a try, you can find some gameplay videos on youtube, that should give you a good first impression. I don't know if ArenaNet will take new beta requests though so it'll likely be impossible to try it unless you know someone who pre-ordered irl.
-
I still have problems about the performance, but i'm almost sure that are related to the eGPU config (and that is a real pity). I still don't understand how games like this stutter and p.e. Max Payne 3 (or TERA that is more GW like) run @ 60-80FPS :-\

[eGPU x1.2Opt Internal Screen] Max Payne 3 - YouTube
[eGPU x1.2Opt Internal Screen] TERA - YouTube
Anyway TODAY the game lacks of everything is needed to drive the player through its mechanics and if it isn't fixed before release this will be a huge mountain to be climbed to gather people. -

I enjoyed this weekend a lot. I didn't get to play nearly as much as I wanted but I got to explore a lot more of the areas and versatility of the world.
My first impression of the game was it was bland but that was due to being stuck in the grassy plains of the human area. Now that I completed the entire starting area for the Norn & Charr I see a lot more diverse areas and the game feels more alive.
It is still kind of lacking in mob types I think, but I guess its not much better/worse than other popular mmo like wow.
Crafting system seems fine to me, it didnt feel too hard to level, I had no trouble figuring it out, at this point in the game where I can craft lvl 20 green items it has no real purpose as I could buy lvl 20 greens on the AH for 6 silver or so and I probably spent 10x that leveling my craft but it was not about the money it was more about just having something to do roaming the world chopping down trees and farming for mats.
It was a good time killing process that didnt feel grindy or unfun (yet lol)
One thing I would like is the ability to craft from the bank and not have to constantly transport my goods from the bank to my inventory every time I craft, that is a bit of a pain, and to let us bank weapon parts and other materials that are crafted as parts for a final item. -

My config is more an Optimus Setup rather than a SLI/CFX anyway I hope for the future BWEs
The game seems nice at least if you understand how to play it -
This game really has a ton of potential. -

I also enjoyed this weekend more than the first. Split time between the story line and exploring this time. Mostly explored the first weekend.
Seems they made good progress on many performance issues. I experienced almost no lag and no freezing. Made the experience much better. -
I really did enjoy this week-end as well, got to see some places i hadn't seen yet and while my GTX570 with 301.42 drivers did seem to have a few issues with the game here and there, it didn't tarnish the experience.
I got to experience a bit of the charr story (one variation anyways) helping my bro in law leveling up his charr and it was pretty good. There i at least some small level of choice available as well. For example, at one point i had the choice to go after bandits or crash a minister's party to get some information about kidnappings. I'm pretty sure the end result is the same for both choices, but it's nice that you can play it your way.
There are still a lot of kinks to work out and i feel that dynamic events reset too fast at times, but the game feels refreshing compared to your standard MMO. You still gotta kill 10 rats at times, but i like how their questing system works, it doesn't feel as fedex as other games i've played. -
Everyone, remember that there is a stress test tomorrow on the 27th for four hours! this is a test to stress the servers so no immediate changes since BWE2.
The balance backwards. They are buying old machines off ebay to test on hardware from 3-4 years ago. once they have optimized the game for that, they will move forward and optimize for GPUs, for dual cores, for quad cores, for SLI, for Vram, and so and so forth. Guild Wars 1 had amazingly low system requirements. Even though it was one of the best looking games of 2005 it ran on a 800 mhz pentium 3 with 64 mb vram. It was marvelous.
But GW2 is not a "technical masterpiece" like Witcher 2. GW2 looks gorgeous because of it's art design. Take a look at this: Little Things that make Guild Wars 2 Special - YouTube < This guy is really cool. Check out his other videos too.
Things to note;
1) ArenaNet knows that some things need a better introduction. It's regarded that the biggest problem is the weapon swapping. At lvl 7 you get the ability to swap weapons (except for Engineer due to kits and Elementalist due to atunements!). Weapon swapping is CRITICAL to playing guild wars 2. You are supposed to switch constantly, but a lot of players don't realize this because the game doesn't tell them. They think it's a convenience thing.
A lot of guardians and Warriors suffered particularly during the beta because of this. If a Warrior is hacking away with his sword and shield, once he gets to low health, he needs to roll out of combat, switch to a rifle or something like that, and just fire from range, until he has used those skills, and when they are on cooldown, he might pop his heal, perhaps his elite (if neccessary) and then quickly switch back to his melee weapon.
It is why the weapon skills have long cool down. its because players are constantly supposed to swap. it's very important and th game doesnt explain well enough this to the players. Right now it is just kind of "hey you unlocked this feature bye bye"! They are aware of it.
As for crafting I am not sure. There was no crafting in GW1 so it's not something they are used too.
2) Being thrown in the world without guidance is sort of the point. In reality the point of guild wars is just to go out and explore without any direction. the idea is that you explore without direction and just discover things happening. its supposed to be unique to you as different things are going on in the world.
the cool thing is that if your walking around alone and you fail to do what is asked something else will happen. Me and two others tried to stop centaurs from building a bridge. we didnt make it. but instead of re-try event, we got a different event because the centaurs launched new attacks against a nearby village, so we had to defend the village. we defended the village, and then we unlocked the chance to destroy the bridge again. we destroyed the bridge and then we attacked their barracks. then we got a new event for another place to kill a local warlord. after we did that we ran around and met a centaur emisary that wanted to make peace with the humans.
so events move around on a chain.
The problem is. The big problem is that we have become stigmatized by games like world of warcraft. we dont want to explore and instantly get killed by a lvl 99 dragon that is spawning halfway down the street. so we just stick to the on-rails quests. When ArenaNet had testers in for the first time they didnt understand how to play. they didnt get that they just had to go out and explore. It was really sad.
That is why there are "scout" npcs. they are for people who simply need directions. who dont like the elder scrolls go-anywhere. that's okay, but I personally feel that the spirit of the MMORPG is the freedom.
Skyrim last year made a better virtual world. It was a better living breathing world than any MMORPG released in almost a decade. that is sad. it speaks to the negative direction from everquest and world of warcraft, while good games are not very MMORPG-ish. they are static and retract the gameplay to single player narrow minded paths of following a strict path that turns everyones experience into the same thing. GW2 is a honest attempt at making every players journey feel unique. that is why you feel thrown into the world.
as for skills, you dont need to learn skills. you merely open your panel and learn new skills as you level. the game doesnt want to waste your time by running back into town to talk to a trainer. this is time-waste. it's time sinks. this is common in subscription based MMORPGs because the developers need to extend the gameplay experience for every player. the longer a player stays the more he pays in subscription.
GW2 has no subscription fee, so no need to waste the players time by asking him to walk 10 minutes to learn some skill.
Learning crafting is easy. you walk into town and talk to some npcs. they will give you directions on the map. you can even quick travel to general locations.
Crafting is very intuitive an complex. it's not EVE/SWG, but it's good. if you go over to another crafting profession you dont have to start over. your progress will actually carry over. so if your a lvl 25 armorsmith and you decide you would rather be a leatherworker, once you pick leatherworker you will instantly be lvl 25. pretty kewl.
They started Anet in 2000 and began working on it immediately. James Phinney joined the team. He was responsible (and legendary) for balancing the three factions in starcraft. They decided to go with low values in guild wars. it was why you only could become lvl 20. it was why you could get a maximum damage sword without 2 hours of play. its why you never gave more than 32 damage per second. all this was too make balancing tight.
But your right. For right or wrong players felt that when they didnt give 2477 damage in one fireball attack it didnt feel powerful. they didnt like just being lvl 20. that felt weak. Numbers played a psychological impact on players.
That is fixed in GW2. You will feel really powerful, but also because the combat is highly action based. its like a mix of mount and blade, battlefield, wow, diablo, dark age of camelot and several other games. you can attack while moving, you can aim you sword, you dodge out of projectiles way, you have to constantly move, swap weapons and so on. and the spell effects are crazy. almost too crazy. very good. high praise to the combat. your not rooted like in TERA which is great. It means the animations doesnt lock your character. so you can run backwards wile slashing your sword, or jumping while making it rain fire! -
When is this game going to be release? Also I take it the guild name will still be the one I came up with is that correct?
I can't do any of the beta cause i have super slow internet so I'm missing out I can't wait for this game. -
Star Forge Quaggan's Creed Redux!
Guild name is still [TRA] for now even though we are having issues unifying NBR under it. -
The Royal Assembly!
Even if they are done with the game, there is no way they would release it in the summer when they could make more money releasing it in the winter, am I not wrong?
I'm guessing you have already try the beta, how is the game? Has it meet or exceed your expectation?
Also have you pre-purchase it yet for some of the bonus? -

I'll try to cover the stress test event with a live stream on my twitch.tv channel, but Wednesday is a bad day so it may not fit into my schedule.

But they have been working for a long time on GW2. It's based on a GW1 expansion that was scrapped, so work has been conceptiualized since 07-08. so it's been 5-6 years. Thats a monumental cost for the publisher (NCsoft) and they do want to make money of the product.
It's also a matter of not going into Duke Nukem Mode. It's very expensive to pay for 200+ staff full time. I think August/September is the most logical bet for release.
I think there will be one or two more BWE's in july/early august. The game still has some ways to go. No game is ever perfect but realistically you cant finish a MMO. It's impossible. It took WoW five years at least before they had cleaned up most of the bullcrap. GW2 is amazing as it is, but any sane person who knows anything about these types of games knows thats its too much of a task to ship bugfree or balanced. It's never been done. Impossible. Game is amazing thou, so dont get it twisted. -

Though GW2 is not my most popular game since so many other big name casters play, over time the fanbase will grow just due to higher quality videos as compared to those with only higher reputations. -
anyone tried gw2 with ati 7970m? i was wondering how does the gpu perform in wvwvw, especially fps when there are 200 ppl doing spells around you.

Release date: Tuesday, August 28th!!!
ref: http://www.arena.net/blog/announcing-the-guild-wars-2-launch-date -
saw this earlier today when it was posted on the blog. great news ive been waiting impatiently for way too long. with everything ive seen in the bwe's and stress tests the game seems more polished than most other games have been at release in the past 3-5 years or so
-
Anyone played Tera Online and compared it to GW2? Just interested in your thoughts.
-
will a laptop with a gtx670m be able to run it at max settings??
-
a 7970m or a 670m will 100% run GW2 at max settings. the question is, will it be able to do 30+ fps when there are 100 ppl around? cause im sure it can do 100+ when nobody is around.
this problem is for all MMORPG, the card is only stressed in mass events and for gw2 it will be in wvwvw -
Yessssss!!

I got a announcement for this too.
It did mention pre-order now to get in on beta events so there must be at least one more.
Anyone hear when that might be?
