That is really surprising since I feel like they still have a bit of things to finish that could take a while... With that said, it is great that it is getting launched at the start of the next academic school year...

There is one more BWE I think and one or two more stress tests based on my prediction of how they layout the schedule currently. Furthermore, they want to release a preview of Asura and Sylvari before the actual game release too.

How much of a time suck is GW? I enjoyed WoW, but I eventually quit because anything worth doing at max level required a pretty decent time investment and I was just playing too much. Now I'm looking for that MMO feel again, and GW2 has me interested.

It seems like most things in the game can be done at any level (other than the single player campaign)

Also, i was hoping they'd have a open beta test. really want to see how it will run on my laptop

Slightly better than the last beta, the game was mostly single threaded though. Anet did say that the game wasn't optimized before the last beta.

Last beta ran great on my G73 - 720qm - 5870m. Played on max settings most of the time, only had to turn it down for large WvW battles but it was still very playable.

No, you get access to the BWE (Beta weekend events) and there is only one more event left (July 20th - I think) before the game is released in august or something.

Beta keys are different, I think they get to play non-stop up until release. They are also bound by a very strict NDA.

    thanks for the info.

Btw, for those of you that have played (or still playing) RIFT, would GW2 give me no reason to play it now? I dont think I have time to play two MMORPG, so if GW2 is going to better, I'd just wait.

I would say you could play them both simultaneously. Guild Wars has never been the kind of game where if you don't rush to max level you're suddenly behind and paying for it. Guild Wars 1 pretty much had "max armor" available to you as early as you can get to the city where it's forged (I remember seeing level 3s and 4s in max armor, fun stuff). From there you just followed the story and had fun without ever having to worry about "updating your gear". I have a level 20 monk from day 1 of the release of GW1 and he's wearing the same max armor since then. I've never had to update it. Now that doesn't mean that there aren't more exclusive armor sets to obtain. You have to pay through the roof to get your obsidian armor and it definitely shows status and prestige versus the run-of-the-mill kind of max armor you can get at Droknar's Forge for example.

If you've never played GW1 that rant probably doesn't make much sense. What I'm trying to say is although Guild Wars 2 is probably going to be very fun and very addicting, it won't be "that" kind of addicting where you know the more time you put into raiding or pvping, the greater the advantage you'll have over other players. Guild Wars has never followed that philosophy.

All my complaints about the grindy nature of the secondary "events" aside... my biggest complaint is just the lack of optimization. MSI Afterburner says that GW2 is only using around 50% of my GPU for some reason. The developers have said that the beta is CPU-bound at the moment, and have promised to optimize the game further.

All the beta events I've participated in have had performance issues. The BWE finale last month, with hundreds of players on-screen, brought my framerate to a crawl at 15 FPS.

They really need to address the framerate issues if they want this game to be successful.

Optimization is usually done before release so... expect them to be working on the final touches after this beta weekend. Maybe there'll be a last stress test as well.

Man this game has all I wanted in a FUN MMO, I sure hope Arenanet delivers :)

Also, it is the general nature of MMOs to be very CPU bound due to having many players. I'm not sure how much we can expect in terms of optimizations.

Try to create a folder where you want to, and name it GW2. Throw the GW2.exe in there and then run it.

Most mmo's only limit themselves to 2 cores on a cpu, I wouldn't call that cpu bound unless it goes beyond that.

Just to expand on that, from the point of view of a (Java) coder / application performance guy, Beta performance is probably heavily CPU bound because the beta is (likely) recording tons of extra data (framerate, function execution time, maybe even full system specs, etc.) and sending relevant and useful info off to the devs, resulting in a performance hit and bigger memory footprint. The upside is that the devs get immediate performance feedback if they, say, tweak some shaders, character models, or an element of the game code but the downside is that overall performance will generally be worse than the final code.

Now, that might not be the case and it might just be unoptimized code but code optimization isn't always an easy task and it's a lot easier for me to see any sudden performance increases as high-resolution performance gathering elements being removed rather than sudden optimizations coming into play juuuuust in time for launch ;).

Hope they done something with the Sli, I remember getting quite raged and upset that my M18X was struggling to run GW2 smoothly, then found a thread advising to disable the Sli. Then all was good in the world, well my world :)

I'm pre-ordering today to play in the BWE, but I'm new to GW. I'm trying to figure out which profession to choose, from a pvp standpoint. I prefer crowd control and disruption with some tankiness and more sustained damage, rather than burst. It seems like any profession can be built resistant to damage or as a glass-cannon dps'r. What I want to know is, which profession has the higher amount and/or usefulness in cc and disruption?

So far I've been leaning towards either the guardian or necromancer. Though other professions, say a warrior, have disruptions, such as a knockdown, and could be spec'd with a balance of defense and offense in mind.

Competitive team-play pvp is the main enticement for me from this game, so I would like the perspective on this matter to take synergy of multiple professions into consideration. However, feedback for 1v1 pvp is also welcome information. I mean, what kind of competitive pvp'er doesn't like to duel eh?

Is anyone lagging? Game is lagging real bad for me. I know I have slow internet but it still broadband yet it lagging for me? Never had problem playing any online game before. Is it the Beta or my internet?

I'm currently transferring to another world (low pop) but it taking much longer than a few minutes, might take hours. I want to play this game real bad.

My broadband dls speed is 50kps so yeah I'm worry.

Well I just logged on for a few min and there's no lag for me...not sure what to say about that though. Beta is beta though.

On a side note, I think I'll leave the two new races/starting zones untouched this weekend and save them for launch. Last weekend I played a human exclusively in their starting zone. Now I'm doing Char, so much fun! Had a smallish group (maybe 5-6) in this cave trying to down this Champion Shaman dude who kept wiping us from all the adds. People were rezzing and shouting, it was crazy! Then we maybe got 5 more guys with more stuns/blinds/slows etc. and we were able to manage the adds and rez our dead efficiently. What a blast!

Yes the game is still in beta, but performance is much improved from the previous events. At least now my 5870m reaches full usage at 1080 instead of 70% like before. I've set most things to high except shadows and so far everything is running smooth.

What program do you guys use to monitor your GPU usage? Mine seems to heat up almost to 80* C while my CPU stays relatively cool (yet in a game like World of Warcraft while I'm raiding, my CPU hits high temps and my GPU stays relatively cool).

TBH, I have not had really all that much fun with this game until tonight. I rolled an asura ele and it was extremely fun. I play a nercro, a thief, and a guardian before, but they were not nearly as fun. I even tried a guardian sylvari and was not all that intrigued. Something about the asura starting area and the ele playstyle was really fun.

I am very curious about the 650M performance in Guild Wars 2 as well, or in general performance (I am specifically asking about the DDR3 version.)
Also how would a 640M LE with a quad core processor (Sony Vaio S 15.5") perform for guildwars? (for either I would want to play on as high as possible of course!)

Wow can't believe my thread reach 90 pages long!

So they transfer me to a low population server and it no longer lag now...yet it feel so lonely. I don't see many other player around and it does feel like Guild War 1 again, which is not a bad thing. I guess things will pick up once the game release and we form my guild (TRA) lol i love coming up with that name, and I like winning just for the pure joy of winning so then it be less lonely to do instance with you guys. I did world vs world vs world pvp with like 80 players on screen and no lag so I'm thankful for that but I don't like playing in a low population server. It so lonely, can't wait till I party with my friends and/or you guys.

BTW how you like the game so far?

So in the end it my internet that screw me over.
