I believe ArenaNet is going to keep the same character creation principle as Guild Wars where you could choose between a PvP only char or a PvE (which also a PvP char, but starts at lvl 0 and has to max out in PvE areas/arenas).

Curious enough, they will most likely not include instant PvE duels (1v1) in Guild Wars 2. Would have been nice to have those. I always liked the "right here right now" challenge. This stems from the idea that Guild Wars 2 does not want to be like other MMOs from what I understood upon looking up stuff.

ArenaNet didn't say anything about 1v1 PvE arenas though. So we will have to wait and see. Either way, it won't be a disappointment for me. I used to quench my PvP thirst without any problems in the first one anyway. :D

Guild Wars 2 could interest me if there is sufficiently interesting PvE elements. Looking at the Shatterer raid, I'd say it does...

Tera Online looks MUCH more promising than GW2 in my opinion. GW1 was way too linear and I fear that GW2 may end up the same way.

Elaborate. Linear how? Dude, the story is different for EVERY person. The fighting system is different than staple MMOs. Dungeons change each time you go into them. Random events occur! I don't see how you can say GW2 COULD end up the same way.

    EDIT:
    changed will to could!

Admittedly I don't know much about GW2, but I did play GW1. The little I do know hasn't wowed me though... Jumping to max level instantly? That disgusts me ;-; what's the point of an MMO if you get perfect characters and gear on demand? I understand it's seen as a 'balancing' point but I can only imagine that level 1s will be logging on for their first time, instantly getting max level, and qqing when they're getting spawn killed while setting up their hotkeys and keyboard turning. I could be wrong, though.

Tera is by far the most revolutionary MMO I've seen so far. Its combat system makes other MMOs look like pong. The skill required for its action combat will surely surpass the requirements for most other MMOs if not all. On top of that the graphics are better than any other MMO I've seen so far, and the novel inclusions in the game only make it that much further ahead the pack (RTS/RPG battlegrounds, political systems, rivalries, etc.).

Watch the video I posted. The "Competitive" PvP system allows players to all be on the same playing field i.e. everyone is equal. Arenanet is trying to make it so PvE doesn't affect PvP. No longer will you have to train and buy the best weapons to be the best at PvP. No longer will you lose to Twinks who only have better gear because they have other characters that got them the best equipment out there! The PvP system jumps you to max level IN BATTLE because they are making it FAIR and to actually display SKILL, opposed to players getting the best gear and just being better because of that. Sure you can level up your PvE character and get some items too while playing PvP, but that wouldn't give you an unfair advantage to other PvE's as they can get the same items the conventional way. Level 1s have the OPTION to play PvP but they don't have to if they don't want to or if they want a challenge and are fairly familiar with the game (demos and other MMOs could help give them a basic knowledge).

GW2 is not like other MMOs. GW2 combines story, teamwork, a new battle system, and fun into the MMO genre. Sure, Tera may be better than GW2 (in your opinion and others), but at least GW2 is bringing something new to the table and not being another WoW clone. I like the fact that Tera is doing that also, but GW2 is more of my game :p

I am not trying to convert you to GW2 or get you to say GW2 > Tera, but I want you to at least see GW2 for what it is and not as "any other MMO". I love GW2 and I'm proud of it :D

Yeah I totally understand where you're coming from, I just happen to thoroughly enjoy the leveling/pve aspect of MMOs (although I am much more of a PvPer myself). GW2 is third on my list of MMORPGs to look out for right now (2nd, kind of). Tera online being the first, Diablo III being the second (if you consider it an 'mmo', and GW2 being the third. :p

I wouldn't consider D3 an MMO, but it seems like you're more into the actiony games i.e. Tera being an "Action" MMO, D3 being an Action RPG. I am also excited for D3, but I am more excited for GW2 because GW1 was like my gateway game as Diablo was others' gateway game! The levels are evenly spaced in GW2 i.e. each level takes the same amount of EXP to gain. This makes it so levels don't seem too quickly gained or too hard to achieve. Content Scaling, Events, Parties, and more, make PvE great in GW2.

You can see how much I've been saying already about the game, isn't it obvious how anticipated I am for it? xD I might sound biased, and it is because I am biased! GW2 is like my perfect game!

Everyone is holding their breath for "world exclusive announcements" from NCsoft this August at Gamescom. Everyone is pretty excited about a open beta date for GW2 and there is a lot of hype and speculation on other forums as well.

Major announcements concerning GW2 usually come from ArenaNet themselves, but seeing how NCsoft is the major publisher company for them and other games this might actually be something major which also has a lot of commercial interest for investors.

Alas, we will have to wait and see. The hype train is too big for this to be a flop from NCsoft in my opinion. Guild Wars 2 is the biggest buck for them in Europe and also Gamescom would be the perfect opportunity to take the waiting game further. They used last year's event to reveal big things concerning Guild Wars 2.

So there will probably be new, big information that is released at either PAX or Gamescom (possibly both?). I don't know about betas and how close they are to game launches, but If the announce the release date, I think it might be in October (the 2 month thing, and it's before all the CoD hype) or in December (maybe the beta will be announced for like October/November and then they release it?) I don't know, I'm just having a theory xD I know nothing about Arenanet and releases.

I think my first character is going to have to be an Asura Necromancer, Just because being an adorable little monster with an huge attitude that raises corpses from the ground will be just too entertaining, and I love the Asuras' cities and origin story. Can't wait for Asura week.

It's mostly a PvE game, because there is no nonconsensual PvP. The only time PvP is forced upon a player when you decide to leave pre-searing, at least w/o expansions. You can't wardec another guild even though the game is called Guild Wars. You can't pk anyone during PvE. Also there are no item drops or xp loss in PvP.

No way you can make the claim that it is mostly a PvP game, Some people never play PvE and there is a huge player base that prefers PvP to PvE. Wasn't the only reason that PvE was added (I'm talking back when the game was still in its infancy) was because there were complaints of it taking way to long to acquire skills/equipment for PvP. Then of course PvE gained popularity etc to what it is now which is great, I prefer PvE but you can't say that it is mostly a PvE game.

I presume you're talking Guild Wars 2? It's neither. PvP and PvE are 2 separate things that only intertwine when looking at the character and it's items. You can play the whole game just by playing PvP or by playing only PvE OR play both!

    On another note:
NCsoft announces Guild Wars 2 beta - Guild Wars 2 for PC News

Can't say if this is true or not. The beta might be released around PAX! Possibly Closed Beta :(

This was just a beta timeframe announcement. They didn't give an exact date. They didn't mention if it was open beta or closed beta either. Open beta is the one we are interested in as a development milestone. Closed is not really relevant IMO for a better speculation of a release date. For all we know, it might be happening now.

C'mon ArenaNet! Just announce the open beta at Gamescom already and I will end up with a smiley face even if GW2 comes out in 2012! :D

Yeah, I was talking about GW1 but I suppose this is the wrong topic for that.

Back to GW 2 am I just crazy or did anyone else read somewhere that they were going to make an iPad app for GW2? Not to play the actual game but it was going to be like a real time map of the world which your character was in. That may sound gimmicky to some but I would love to prop up my iPad next to my screen so I am not constantly opening the map and then I could make the mini map smaller and do more sightseeing!

You could probably run it off a cheap android tablet like you said you would prefer earlier since they said there would be a web based version. And chances are that if there's an iPad app in development (or already finished) an android one will be ready at launch or soon after, I don't think the dev's have an Apple allegiance. And I doubt they would want to favor just part of their fan base especially while the game is new.

I agree on this. Thinking of how much ArenaNet cares for their fanbase, it would be a rather bad move on their part to make it platform exclusive.

Quote from first article: "At launch, the app will have tons of features available, designed to help offline players connect with their friends in-game. Along with the ability to chat with your friends and guildmates from your portable device, players will also be able to view the location of their friends via a fullscreen map, showing their actions and movement in real-time."

This just can't get any better really. I also believe it will be ported on smartphones. Chat and realtime friend follow-up is pretty cool. :D

Now I can talk to my guild/NBR-mates while in school, and tell them how much I'd rather be playing Guild Wars 2 :D Also, easier to schedule stuff and help others find stuff (tell them where something is from your map-age).

PvP unlocks came out a few months after release, so those who didn't PvE at all would've been stuck with basic skills and items, no runes or elites.

Actually with the introduction of Tomes, if you had the quid in PvE, you can actually make powerful characters in short time by exploiting Tomes with the Unlocks, making you pretty leet as you went though the campaigns as a way to get your new PvE up to Level 20. Or it could also help immensely if you did some powerlevelling methods.

I've played the guild wars trailer but never really got into it. I just didn't understand what the point was.

What is the point? I mean like WoW like it or not, has a pretty good story line which has people very into the game, and buying every new expansion. Is there even a story line and quests in Guild Wars?

Pretty sure GW1 has a story and quests. I don't know the full story, but it's about the Humans fighting the Charr (Beastlike creatures).

GW2 on the other hand is about the Charr, Humans, Slyvari, Norn, and Asura all together fighting the Elder Dragons! GW2 will have personal story (like an RPG) but will be different for everyone in the game. This makes it seem like a real RPG game rather than an MMO where everyone does extremely similar stuff and ends up with the same story.
EDIT: I don't know which you're talking about because this is GW2 thread and they were talking about GW1.

Guild Wars 1 The Story in the Nutshell (Part 1):

Base Game (Prophecy): Basically you are a citizen of the Human Empire called Ascalon who are facing the beast-like species of the Charr. However, the Charr devised a ruthless plan to obliterate the Ascalonian Empire with magical crystal meteorites causing the Searing, which forces Ascalonian survives to flee like refugees. However during the trek though the mountains, the Elder Prince of Ascalon (Rurik) gets killed from a Stone Stummit Dwarves, who are basically xenophobics.

This caused the rest of the refugees (your character included) to trek to a region call Kryta, who were ruled by the revolutionary faction called the White Mantle. At first, you discover the White Mantle to be great allies that accepts and assists the Ascalonians. However, as you later find out, the White Mantle are corrupt and worship a species of insane humanoids called the Mursaat, who kills gifted villagers in exchange of their lifeblood to power the Mursaat souls. The Ascalonians then ally with the former Krytan ruling faction, the Shining Blade and you then try to formulate a plan to overthrow the White Mantle and the Mursaat by allying with a guy who use to be the advisor to the destroyed Kingdom of Orr. The advisor crafts a plan for the Shining Blade to recover a scepter from the White Mantle that he can use to overpower the Mursaat.

After doing so, it was discovered that he was the main villain and mastermind of all this chaos that was creeping though the land and backstabs everyone. Therefore, your hero then treks to the desert to get Ascended in order to be gifted enough to face the main villain, as fortold by the "Prophecy" from the elder dragon in the desert.

Then you head back to the mountains and ally with the Deldrimor Dwarves to expungate the Stone Summit faction as well as the approaching faction of Mursaat. Then you discover that the Mursaat are the gatekeepers of the Titans and that you were eradicating the gatekeepers. Once the last Mursaat is killed, you soon released the Titans that the main villain possesses to go conquer the continent with. However, your party goes and stops him before he does so.

So yeah, the first game in a nutshell... Part 2 for Factions will be written up if requested.

ArenaNet has announced a Sylvari week that will take place before Gamescom, as well as their playability at the respective event. Seeing how everyone was expecting an Asura week this comes as a big surprise. They are the race with the least content/details/lore revealed so far. Everyone was expecting them to be last on the reveal list.

Seems that ArenaNet left the "least desired" race for last. They also said that the race went through a signifficant redesign. Personally, I had no comments on their appearance or any other thing, but "redesign" may be something else, not just looks. I'm looking forward to this, especially information concerning their starting area/their "capital" and the changes that the Maguuma Jungle went through. :D

What conventions do they go to after Gamescom and PAX? If there are no more, then I think the won't be an Asura week, as beta would need to be released, etc.

Content wise we have the Asura and the 8th/last profession which we don't know much about. It would be optimistic to assume that Asura week could happen in the exact week between PAX and Gamescom, although we've never seen race weeks being revealed so close to each other.

If this does happen by any chance, then PAX guests will have their hands on the Asura as well. Seeing how close these two events are to each other, I would say it is highly unlikely and no reason to rush seeing that beta is not even announced.

In any case, I am pretty sure that ArenaNet can deliver. I would trade the Asura week for a beta announcement anytime! :D

Ooops! My bad! I meant the other way around. :D  Just realized what I wrote now.

The best case scenario would be to have the 8th profession reveal (the event surprise) at Gamescom (with the playable Sylvari - at least this one is for sure) then have Asura week right after Gamescom (hyping up the train even more with a playable Asura at PAX) and finishing off with a mindgasmic open beta annoucement (if not the actual release date - event surprise again) at the end of PAX for the fans.

That sounds ideal, do you think that will happen? haha if not then what would be like the perfect Arenanet schedule for Asura week? I'm hoping for Gamescom because they'll have to say something big for PAX too (I heard PAX is big for Arena Net?) Now that I think about it the best case scenario seems like the most likely one.

UNLESS, Gamescom's news is the Sylvari, and then 8th profession at PAX Prime. Fast foward to Paris Games Week (October), Asura week before leading into PGW, and then Beta. Or is Paris Games Week not that important to Arena Net as Gamescom and PAX Prime is?

Wow, I just saw this video. Okay, now I'm really really interested in this game. The combat systems look awesome, being able to level from only pvp sounds awesome, the game just looks amazing.

I'm actually hoping this doesn't come out until at least 2012 though because I won't be able to play it, at least competitively, until mid 2012 and I don't want to get too far behind the curve.

KOTOR Doesn't even compare, how could anyone want to play that garbage over GW2 (unless you're a huge star wars fan).

PGW is not that big for ArenaNet, but it is suitable for content reveal. I don't remember what happened last year, but I know that they were there. If we think about it, Asura week before PGW is more realistic. :)

    Haha, another one!
Game will probably be released end of 2011 or Q1 2012
I feel like GW2 will not "kill" other MMOs but just be something different and eventually people would move over to it! I know WoW players who say Blizzard is making WoW crappy! :p
Ok now I have a better theory.
    -Sylvari Week before Gamescom
-8th Profession @ Gamescom (if not PAX)
-PAX gets 8th Profession on Demo (Did they do that with Engi? if they didn't then no 8th prof for PAX)
-PAX gets open beta release date for end of October or Early November (Paris Games Week has a DEMO, Why would there be a beta before then?)
    -PGW gets Asura week.
-Beta drops and everyone is happy :D
If Asura week is before PAX, I will brix though because open beta could be sooner than I expect it to be?

Yeah I definitely agree with this. Even if the game was "perfect" it would be hard to kill off other MMO's because everyone has a different meaning of "perfect". Some may prefer the grind of other titles or what have you. Just an additional note, I know I am being greedy but it would still be really awesome to see even more benifits added to veteran Gw1 players. Sure anyone could just go out buy GW1 right now and get ready for the second, thats cool with me. I just am getting really anxious and I would like more to hold me over :D

It is nice to know that it does hype things around here. It would also be nice to have a NBR community (future guild) ready to go when the game will be launched! :D :D

Notebook themed or just generally awesome?

    Notebook Kings! Computer Club :p
I can go to other games and check out some cool names, I'm sure most of them will be free or open .
Now I just have to decide whether i'm going to use Audience or Plague Doctor (going to snatch them both up first day of launch! along with some other cool names :p)
