Just picked this game up today. Currently installing. Not sure what class I'll be, but I'll probably be under the name Oriin, Iztak, or Catalyzt. Well as long as they're not taken.

Played the demo, but I still have one nagging question. Can you reset your skills or do you have to reroll another character. Cheers.

 

You can't reset you skills (like you could in Titan Quest). You have to create a new character if you're not happy with your skill distribution (that or level up and get more skill points).

 

Does it display a splash screen and then crash?

If you think it is an issue getting a clean install then I'd recommend uninstalling it again, removing any remaining flagship and hellgate registry keys, deleting the directories (both in Program files and My Documents/My games) and reinstalling the installshield program like it says here:

If its crashing at a different point (like trying to enter multiplayer) then it may be a corrupt update/file.

I found another one of those unique helms, bleh, it's so useless

 

I got it working again by following what someone suggested on the HGL forums and starting the DX10 file (I had just switched to DX9). Apparently I can only run it in DX10 mode right now . Oh well, at least I'm in! My summoner is almost 17.

I have warper now and everything just dies....

Those really huge guys that take forever to kill drop 1/2 there hp from just a single attack from the warper.

You need a strong machine to play summoner I have 3 fire, 3 force, 2 lighting, and 1 spectral out usually and it was lagging bad on my desktop somtimes (my notebook plays it better than my desktop...)

 

I have 3 zombie pets now.... and almost enough for a 4th one. No mask still yet.

 

I destroy all the pet parts, it's taking up valuable space

 

I'm saving my extra parts for alts .

 

24 summoner 4 pets and 2 masks now.

Will be nice when they take the subscription feature again it gives you extra storage space (not much but it helps) Things get WAY harder especially for a summoner in my opinion at this point in the game.

These guys that shoot a very strong AOE poison that insta kills most of my elementals are common and they have super range. Plus the brusers can be mean. I am thinking of going for a full fledged 10 force elementals build now instead of 10 toxic because they are the only thing strong enough to remotely survive. I wont have enough points to max it but may go for summoning circle too. I just hate needing a 3 points in blood link for it, thats half my left over points so I think I would rather just max the warper, or maybe put a few into witch doctor incase a group prefers I heal instead of making everything die.

 

Man i love this game but I SUCK at every class but marksman. I tried summoner cuz it looked great, got my butt kicked. Same with evoker and blade master

I must be doing something wrong, but oh well i'm having a blast! Wanted to start on Abbadon server but it was down when I went to start so i'm on shulgoth, so anyone see Vaath on shulgoth don't hesitate to say hi!

 

I think a few of us are on Shulgoth, I am, I think Stella is too.

 

Me aswell, its the only server I even have a choice for...

 

Went from 11 to 21 in a few hours, not bad for my only day off until next Friday....

 

Yeah I started back to work today--not much playing again until Monday or Tuesday. I'm really enjoying playing casually.

I did get a subscription in--I have about a dozen names saved . I don't know about extra storage space . . .

 

wow you guys are lvling way faster than me and I am usually super pro at games.

Summoner is becoming a real chore in higher lvls. 27 now and my entire crew can get wiped instantly every other room. Plus no gear since lvl 15 for a summoner its all evoker based stuff that I can wear, and alot of MM and BM type stuff.

Im still sticking with it tho, I hear reaper is broken right now with no cool down timer, so when I hit 30 I will definitely take advantage of that

I had my first party today too, me and a MM with dual raptors. he was saying his DPS is low but he cleaned house way faster than I could unless my warper locked on to something. Warper still just looks at things and they die, but I find his special moves are not that good so I may want to hold off on lvling them further.

 

I was questing with a friend, a blademaster and a marksman and we just TORE everything apart, it was hilariously fun. I have a friend who's an evoker but he's a few levels behind, so we're waiting. Once he reaches our level,, MM + BM = rounds up everything, and then the MM and I use our AoE traps and the Evokers goes boom boom(as well as my rocket bots - I wanted Haste bots but an Engineer's killing power is REALLY limited).

The Engineer is alright, the Drone can tank pretty well with me constantly healing it(50% every 8 secs ), but since I learned to equip armor, swords and guns on it, it's been doing much better. My guns still suck, I barely hurt them. I have a nice sniper rifle but it's way too slow, can't AoE spam

I can't decide whether or not to be an evoker or summoner either way i should have it this weekend.

 

I HATED evoker. Blademaster and summoner both came really naturally.

Hmmm, hearing that about summoner at higher levels makes me glad I made a little investment in my carnagor. I bet it's going to pay off in the long-term.

I'd love to play the game, and hearing you guys talk about it sounds like fun.

except the part where I can't even get it to load without it either crashing to desktop or giving me a flashing white screen

 

At what point is it crashing to the desktop? Is it when you first click the icon to launch, or at another point? How about the flashing screen, when is that occurring? What are the stats of your system (what graphics card, processor, operating system, etc are you using)?

 

Installing now, im gonna try evoker first, but based on this topic they are tough to play so i might switch to summoner, will be under name Zidan. Shulgoth right?

Edit: Name is Zedan, Zidane and Zidan were already taken somehow. It'd be awesome if someone could compile a list of current player names so i can start adding to my friends list.

 

Vicious, could you maybe edit your first post with everyone's in game names? If you don't have time to go through the whole thread, I'll get the list together so you can copy and paste it.

BTW 27 summoner now, and found a gun with summon reaper on it, that guy can dish out some hurt and has nearly 3000hp I think warper does more dmg still tho and is not only a 20 second summon :/

Oh if you guys want zombie pets see me. I have 8 of them now, and have tosses out 6 of those Halloween masks.

 

If i could get one of those Halloween masks that'd be awesome, im like 4 vials away from a zombie so im good there.

So far i don't find evoker to be too hard, maybe its just too early. I'm about to play to the early hours of the morning.

It crashes when I click the icon to launch. If I set it to dx9 compatibility mode I can get past the splash screen but then the screen goes black while it flashes white over and over again.

I'm on a Macbook Pro 2.2ghz Running Windows Vista Ultimate through boot camp 2.0 on Leopard.

Intel Core 2 Duo T7500 2.2.ghz
Nvidia 8600M GT graphics
2GB of RAM

 

My DX9 randomly started working again. Absolutely no changes to my system; I don't even think I've restarted it. DX10 was tearing so badly I couldn't play it without getting a nasty headache.

ETA: Nevermind--after about an hour playing in DX9 mode, my game crashed again and now it won't load DX9 mode. Again.

!Stupid Question Alert!

How do you actually CHAT in chat? I've tried /c, /chat, /chat-* (* = channel), just /, and I don't even know what else. I feel like an idiot for not figuring this out, but it's driving me crazy.

 

It should just be ` to pull up chat box and /chat then put a space and start typing. If you really wanted to you could type chat-51 or whatever the chat channel is called. Im still getting used to it all too. All Ive known for 2 years was WoW.


Edit: My game crashes in DX9 mode too, but only after 2 hours or so. Im disappointed that the norm nowadays is too release games with major bugs like this.

/town - talk to everyone in the station
/chat ## - to talk to people in a private chat

I hope the cryptic text box is there on purpose to fit the futuristic feel to the game or else they just got plain lazy

 

Im not having crash issues, I get bad hang when exiting the game at random tho and horrible performance on my desktop (I think because I have a single core cpu they did a really bad job on single core coding, that or my 2.8ghz opteron just cant handle it)

Anyways I have like 10 zombie pets now and like 7 or 8 of those masks have gone thru my hands.

I beat the game as a lvl 29 summoner, and now I am a lvl 30 summoner in nightmare mode (however I am going back to normal mode to beat quest for stat points and maybe get a lvl or 2, nightmare is so crazy I am finding loot on the first stages that requires lvl 32 to use so I am way behind to use the stuff, but its some REALLY good stuff, alot more epics and way better stats)

 

Wow, so you just don't type the "-". But you DO have to type it for /channeljoin. THAT makes sense . The chat system for this game is so bad right now. I always join chat-1--it's steadily active, which I like in an MMO.

I waltzed into the first zone in Act 3 at level 18 and got beaten up by the boss, lol. I'm kind of disappointed that you beat the game at such a low level, though--I was hoping there would be more content.

 

Argh, had trouble with Occulus. Man he was hard. The exploding summons are the hardest part, especially since I have 300 life

 

I finally received my copies of both Hellgate London and The Witcher in the mail yesterday, so far I've experienced two crashes/hangs on my desktop during loading screens when going from one station to another. I've also have my character (except for his weapon(s) and shield) become invisible when returning to the stations a few times). I'm crossing my fingers and hoping I don't encounter any of the non-play issues some of you have encountered.

For anyone who is not taking ViciousXUSMC up on his offer I believe today is the last day to get the Halloween items during play.

For now I've got a Guardian named Percivale. (ViciousXUSMC I'll take one of each off your hands if you don't have plans for them I'm trying to get them on my own, but I don't know how successful I'll be. )

Edit: When I setup my account I put my character on the Shulgoth server, since that is what it sounds like most people here are on. (My other choice was something that began with an A )

Gah! I was putting together a list of everybody in the game and was on page 8/9 for adding names and IE crashed (on a work pc, somebody probably got a virus on it or messed it up as it randomly crashes IE all the time)

So I am going to do it later on my notebook, also there are alot of people that have posted something like this "I will be X character name, or Y character name ect..." because they planned to use a name, I am not posting those because I dont know if you got that name, also I think the first few pages were still BETA, I need only people playing the full release version.

Your main characters name, and there character type, and the server.

I will organize list by the server so for me it would look like:

Shulgoth - Dierdre (Summoner)

 

Shulgoth - Imogen (Summoner) and Stellar (Blademaster)

I have a bunch of other names saved, but these are the only two active characters at this time.

 

i'm having a problem trying to run the hellgate. i got the demo to see if i would want to get it. i went thru all the install with any problems it seemed. then i go and try to run the launcher and i get this crap :



i've updated directX 9.0c, my drivers for my video card, and that vista SP1. i'm running an Anthlon 64 X2 +3600 1.9 Ghz, 2Gbs RAM, ATI Radeon X1900 GT. I looked a the min requirements and it looked liked i was good, to me at least. am i missing something? any help is appreicated. it just really pisses me off that o can't get this stupid game to run. and this is for my desktop, i know this is a notebook forum. i'm desperate.

 

How does the multiplayer works?
Is it played on LAN or requred to connect to a server.

 

There is a Vitsa fix you can get for memory space thats what that is refering too. It helps with stability with high end systems with high settings in games. I have it installed. You get it from microsofts home page.

 

You guys are tempting me to buy this game though I'm not a fan of these types of games.

I'm really enjoying this game even with all the bugs I'm encountering. I've got my engineer Oriin up to level 19. The most annoying thing, that's supposedly getting fixed this week, is my constructor bot. You can outfit it with guns and armor, but every time I logout the weapons that the bot was using disappear forever. Luckily I learned this quickly and only give it crappy weapons. Supposedly a patch will fix that this week. I've also had the game crash on me a few times, but not enough to keep me from playing. Hopefully these things get ironed out soon.

I love it when you get a 5-star item that almost doubles the damage output of your 2-star rare items.

 

Good news for you! It gets fixed today.

Also they put a fix for the memory error, not a total fix but its supposed to help.

bad news for me... they fixed the no cooldown for the reaper summon. I was just about to get lvl 32 and be able to use my handgun with summon reaper lvl 2 on it ...
