it is still a great gpu :) if your lappy is at 1600x 900 its perfect and with overclocking it really stands the test of tme :) i love my acer just a bit miffed at the fact my gpu wont ever get to the 700 core i see alot but i know what needs to be done unfortunately bios mods was no help so whomever has that modded vbios or is willing to do a bios mod using the latest acer 7740g bios id really be grateful i tried reverting to 11.9 and i was only able to go to 1 volt lol stock :p

Normally laptops with even decent ATi/nVidia GPUs were in the premium range and here we got the HD 5650! That said im more than happy with it, im fine playing games at 720p at 30fps with High settings and theres only a very few games that cant manage that.

It also helps that its pretty much a HD 5730 so boosting the speeds isnt considered OCing in this case.

exactly right, im even enjoying battlefield 3 on mostly ultra settings at 1280x 720p however when i built my acer 7740g they gave me the wrong heatsink they gave me the heatsink for the 5470 so some of my ram is exposed , dosnt seem to cause any issues, but may not help ocing much :/ ive also come to the conclusion the i7 720qm i have in it is a bit of a bottleneck so will be going with either a 840qm or if i can ill drop a 920xm in this thing . most likely 840qm just wish mine was higher binned would love to go above 620 mhz without the driver pooping out lol

    Hey seeker_moc,
I know that this is a very old threat of 2 years ago, but I've seen you replying on other threads where you seem kinda smart in these kind of things.
I really hope you can reply on this one.

I wish to have a updates bios, a modded one, and you seem good at these things.

I have a sony vaio E series with a ati radeon 5650m with a bios from AMI.
This is my DMI BIOS VERSION: R1140Y8

I'm really not good at these things,
I would wish to have a bios where I could set my clocks with and/or voltages, I wouldn't mind if it isnt possible by the way ;)

But your help would be very appreciated!

This is my mail to mail me back: [email protected]

You dont know how grateful i am if you can do this!

    greatings, Vincent

Sorry, I haven't checked this thread in about a year or so. I only came because of the new "friend" request thing I just noticed you sent me. If you could post me a link to where I can download the BIOS, I'll check to see if it's possible. Please PM it to me as I'll probably forget about this thread again. The only thread I check on a regular basis anymore is over in the Dell XPS forum: http://forum.notebookreview.com/dell-xps-studio-xps/521990-bios-modding-gpu-oc-fun-profit.html

I will do a big up to ask a question, my card wont go pass the 625/825 Clocks without freezing, does it mean it's the limit for OC without voltage mod ?

I just set my gpu at 600/800. Did a bench on trackmania and got .3 fps improvement. Temp went from 47c to 48c.

Anyways, after that I was getting flickering lines across the screen. I restarted and it went away. Anyone else have this issue?

Yes, I had that too. You need to turn off the screen. Two options:

    - Close the lid
    - Use this program: Put your monitor to power save mode, with Sleeper - Windows Freeware / Troubleshooters

That only in case your laptop doesn't have a key to turn the monitor off automatically.
