ocing the gt 555m gddr3 to 760 on core which max limit on after gives 3d mark 11 p score of 1649 that guy is using default drivers hopefully he will re run it using latest drivers and let us know

those of you who have 6770m plz run the 3d mark 11 at stock core then at oced 800 and 850 on core for the P score using latest amd drivers plz

and plz post some benchies here as well

It doesn't make sense at all but according to nvidia on its official page the GT555M with GDDR5 has indeed 96sp. So it's not even the same chip, and if my math serves me right it'd be an almighty GT525M with GDDR5 (1506/2.5 = 600mhz core clock, that's the GT525). Therefore I can boldly announce it definitely sucks on paper and would almost certainly be a worse performer than the 144sp / 192bits DDR3 GT555M. Surely that's the most ridiculous thing but you were right, please accept my apologies.

I had already ran 3DMark11 on my 6770M when I first got it. The result can be found here

I agree with you... nVidia has always been the worse when it comes to figuring out their GPU performance. That is utterly silly what they have done here... hehe.

One more about overclocking. I can overclock my mine to 850/950 without any 'visiable' to naked eye artifacts, but running ATI tool shows multitudes. This is the same with every nVidia card I owned as well. Meaning, a lot of the clocks people are using, are artifacting like hell but because it isn't the point of complete clusters of pixels it is difficult to find without a tool... So, just to be clear here, I'd rather compare stock with stock. Anyone can get a benchmark to run with overclocks, but they often won't tell you that it won't pass any type of artifact test.

My card passed 20 minutes of artifact testing at 775/900, which is probably where I will end up clocking it. Could I go higher and not notice artifacts? Most definitely. But whether I see them or not, they are there.

Just for fun, I ran it 825/925 in 3DMark 11. No visible artifacts, but ATI tool does pick some up after some time. I won't be running or playing games at these clocks, but others might. Mine is basically set to 775/900. I'll post a result on that one as well, as soon as I run it. Side note: my eyes are bleeding, the standard locked in performance mode has no anti-aliasing. The jagged edges are painful to look at.

    P1567 (725/800 Stock)

    P1673 (775/900 OC)

    P1750 (825/925 OC)

Edit, one more, just for fun.

    P1824 (866/950 OC)

    Far Cry 2 @ 1366x768, DX10, Ultra Settings and 4XAA (775/900=slight overclock)
    Minimum Framerate = 30.21
    Average Framerate = 38.39
    Max Framerate = 64.03

    Crysis 1 @ 1366x768, DX10, High (one down from maximum), 4XAA (775/900=slight overclock)

Average Framerate = 32.72 (second, third and fourth flyby, since first is always innacurate)

World in Conflict @ 1366x768, DX10, Every setting highest possible with exception of AA, which was chosen at 4X), (775/900=slight overclock)

    Minimum Framerate = 20
    Average Framerate = 33
    Maximum Framerate = 53

Basically, I am only sticking to games with built-in benchmarks or utilities for it. I don't want to dink around with FRAPS.

    Yes.

Here is a technical comparison, of all three versions of the GT 555M via GPU-Z:

    #1 - 128-bit GDDR5

    #2 - 192-bit DDR3

    #3 - 128-bit DDR3

    And then the GTS 360M:

The GDDR5 version has a huge clock advantage.

That is a valid point. It is like the significant difference between the 1 GB 128-bit GTX 460M and the 1.5 GB 192-bit GTX 460M.

DDR3 is usually clocked at 800mhz

GDDR5 is usually clocked at 900-1000mhz

So the bandwidth difference is likely to be 40-45%

The GPU-Z shows the BW difference as 14%.

Oops, I had posted the incorrect GPU-z shot, for the 128-bit DDR3 555M. I've now corrected my post.

This is what I put at #3:

555m is bottlenecked by ddr3 so the 6770m gddr5 naturally performs better as well as lower power consumption. Both is sufficient for gaming.

But then the 6770M is bottlenecked by its low shader count. In the end, the two are pretty much equal.

The only way we'll resolve this, is by having an owner of each run through a gambit of benchmarks.

    480 shaders @ 725mhz

    =

    800 shaders @ 435mhz

70% of the shader power of a 5850M with all the bandiwidth.

A little bit of clocking should help bring a bit closer too.

You're comparing two different arch. I believe NI achieves more with 480sp than Evergreen. But yeah I believe the 6770M despite performing exceptionally well for a non-enthusiast part is noticeably less powerful than your 5850M.

Yep but some tweaks on the uncore stuff made the architecture more efficient I think. It's amazing how the 6850 comes close to the 5850 while the latter has 50% more sp, more texture units and just a slightly slower core.

wonderful, so I take that the 144sp DDR3 192 bit might be equal to the 128 bit GDDR5 144sp, or the added speed of the GDDDr5 might be better?

Probably doubt so. GDDR5 is about 2-4X speed of GDDR3 and even with smaller bus the GDDR5 version is more like 256-bit GDDR3 bus version of GT555M.

The M14x manual lists the memory config options as 1.5GB and 3Gb, which means it has a 192-bit interface. That signals that it's #1, unless Dell pulls a rabbit out of the hat with a yet unseen 192-bit GDDR5 version.

The 144/128-bit/GDDR5 is in the MSI GT780R.

I've had a look at 3dmark vantage scores for XPS 17 (GT555M with 144cores / 192bits DDR3) and HP dv6/dv7 (6770M). They're really close, XPS 17 scores about 6400 pts stock and HP dv6 scores 6500, I don't think the difference is significant and maybe someone else would find the same results but with GT555M a hundred points ahead. But it does not necessarily mean there's no difference in game.

Agreed, 3DMark06 is only legitimate at 1280x1024 as that was the standard back in the day for all gaming platform resolution rendering. In Vantage or 11 you can use 1280x720 as gaming benchmarks switched from 4:3 to 16:9.

I am confused here. 13-14k for 3dmark06 may be correct. The benchmark really doesn't gauge gameplay ability and isn't very useful anymore. The benchmark heavily favors cpu and the 2630 is powerful for the baseline qm.

So with a mid level card and the 2630 I think that would be quite possible.

The vantage and 3dmark11 are what really I think hold more value these days.

    Just my .02

well the fastest gt 555m u can get is 192 bit gddr3 144sps i dont think 128 bit 144 sps will beat that and 6770m beats all of them at stock vs stock oc vs oc

as for m14x it wont be gddr5 192 bit as dell uses 192 bit gddr3 in xps 17 so they choose cheaper option

as got gt 780 it might be 96 sps 128 bit gddr5 i dunno why even msi chose this card as its a 17 inch they should put gtx 470m minimum even their 15.6 inch sports gtx 460m so 17inch should have more powerful gpu

Would anyone be willing to list them (555m vs 6770m) in a side by side comparison view to make it easier to understand and point out the pros and cons of each? I'm just to ignorant to understand/explain/compare with all the various benchmarks and etc. :(
