I forgot that Software T&L is faster than Hardware T&L for 3dmark01 SE and the default configuration for 3dmark01SE is hardware (and the 15.6+ drivers enable hardware T&L), so I just ran another s/w benchmark with 15.7:

    Driver 3dmarks
    15.4.3 (1283) 5562
    15.7 (1364) s/w 3640
    15.7 (1364) h/w 3523

the DX8 s/w performance in 15.6+ is quite a bit better than 15.6+ h/w in some tests (specifically game test 1), but there is still a big overall decrease compared with 15.4 drivers

Hi guys. Next week i will buy a notebook. Well i am planning i will buy an acer aspire 5720 with X3100, but i am not sure i can play with the new games: need for speed: pro street, juiced 2, crysis. So my question is: intel x3100 is able to run these new games ? Thx for your answers.

    Not even close.

You will need the card in my signature to play Crysis.

Thank you so much, in the other notebook: LG has NVidia 8400. It is better than x3100 for gaming? Intel will upgrade their driver for DirectX 10 or Shader Model 3.0, or is it completed?

IMO it doesn't matter what shader model they support, if the GPU doesn't have enough horsepower to run the games that have those shaders.

Think about it. Say they support DX10 - great, but if the game runs like a slideshow what's the point?

the purpose of gettin a notebook with X3100 is just for the normal routine kind of folks not for those who want extreme gaming. X3100 is fine if you are on a tight budget but don't guarantee that it'll run the most recent games. Games from '04 to below are fine.

No answer from Intel yet.. But i understood there is not HT&L, or it's dissabled.
In intel's forums they just say "HT&L is not working yet" it's supposed to be fix with the 14.31, but there is not.
Not when 3Dmark and other programs warn me about that issue.

So i guess there is nothing to do with Intel, they just don't care about the costumers, as long as we buy they branch-new-not-working graphics cards.

However, there is not point to disscuss its performance if it doesn't work in Xp.. and in vista is just a funny joke.

andu it does work it's just crap for games, some programs are recognised and forced to run in software mode as it's faster, rename the EXE to anything and you stop it forcing program specific settings (3dmark '06 is one example,it'll run in hardware mode if renamed).
things might get faster one day, it's just not worth holding breath over, and it's never likely to make crysis worth playing, but it's still an big leap for integrated chips for a business machine.

If they improve ogl support then it'll even be ok for media production (eg maya PLE fullscreen viewport is still cut off badly on the right when bigger than 640x480ish, or maximised it gets as bad as cut in half)

Intel simply does not care as most consumers have no choice. There will never be good drivers for the x3100 as Intel is working on next gen hardware coming out in 2008.

...which it has been claimed a few times is an evolution of the current tech and will share the driver base so if it's fixed for that it'll be fixed for the x3100

Yes that's right. GMA X3000 is the base architecture for more future GMA X3100, the upcoming GMA X3500, and the next generation X4500. If they flop on the drivers, they'll flop for next 4-5 years.

Andu, stop posting BS. Maybe you are just trolling??

I'm going to test the "old" 15.4 drivers in a few minutes.

I also did a few benchmarks with company of heroes using the built in performance test. Vista held up surprisingly well compared to XP (using software mode). Tested with 15.7.

WinXP Hardware - Average FPS: 26.5
WinXP Software - Average FPS: 26.6
Vista Hardware - Did not run
Vista Software - Average FPS: 26.6

I can almost conclude that hardware mode is broken for both Vista and XP. That, or the video card is just not capable of handling such a game. I'm beginning to think however, that it is the former. For example, cranking up the texture settings and model detail setting did not put a hit on the FPS, which means there's a bottleneck somewhere, presumably the video card drivers, or quite possibly the processor. I'll be back in 25-30 minutes with the 15.4

Update: The 15.4 drivers yielded absolutely no performance benefit, and maintained an average of 26.5FPS.

In my case, i've tried in Dungeon siege II, and it's reports:

    WinXp: 24Fps
    Vista: 15Fps

I couldn't try in hdw mode, that game isn't in the windows registrity..

Xp drivers an vista were the latest. Downloaded from intel's web site.

PD: i've read somewhere that the Hdw driver isn't working yet...

Hardware shaders dont seem to be supported on either the latest XP or Vista drivers.

We just have to hope the new year brings us something good.

I actually think 15.7 unleashed H/W vertex shaders for my HL2 in Vista

I tried forcing S/W mode with the regedit trick
    two things i noticed:
    - the video stress test does no truth in game value (disabling H/W gives me better fps in stress test)
    - BUT in game situation S/W gave me ~12 fps (consistently doesn't matter what the situation is), H/W gave me ~ 16 - 30

another thing, I remember there being talk about video bios driver
    i apprantly have 1471

the 15.4.x performance was the same as disabling hardware mode

WOW I CAN'T BELIEVE IT, I FINALLY WAS ABLE TO GET THE 15.6+ DRIVERS TO WORK AS WELL AS 15.4.X (WITH S/W T&L)!!!

For some reason, even though I set 3dmark2001se to run in software mode, i guess it still ran in hardware mode anyways. But when using the trick posted here:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showpost.php?p=2763952&postcount=16

I was finally able to run 3dmark2001se in software mode with the 15.7 drivers and I'm happy to report that they run just as well as the 15.4.x drivers (if not slightly faster)! now if only Intel could get the h/w t&l drivers to work faster than the s/w t&l so that we can run games faster than the gma 950 in older games (such as DirectX 8 games)...

I Looked in the registry and i had Age of Empires 3 in software mode, and i put it on 0 so it was on hardware and guess what the game runs faster even though it runs with a little bugs.

yep, other users have reported that as well. it seems that the max framerate is higher on software, however the minimum framerate is much higher on hardware (especially during intense ship battles).

I ran a benchmark for NHL 2008 using FRAPS.

    nhl2008 (SW)
    Frames: 1364 - Time: 52737ms - Avg: 25.864 - Min: 16 - Max: 40

    nhl2008 (HW)
    Frames: 1068 - Time: 57749ms - Avg: 18.493 - Min: 12 - Max: 30

This benchmark was done from when the game begins (the cinematics), to 1 minute after the puck is dropped. Average in-game framerate stabilized at roughly 20-21 frames in HW mode and 30-34 in SW mode.

i dont know if this has to do in anything with the drivers, but i dont have nothing to lose, Does anyone of you have any problem viewing pictures in windows photo gallery in classic view, because i do the images look kinda blurry and in fade there's like white lines around the edges.

Again i dont know if this has to in any way with the drivers, thanks.

It is unrelated to your graphics card. I "think" it's because you're scrolling too fast and you're not letting the images load past their thumbnails! Try waiting a few seconds.

Has anyone tried installing SP1 for Vista? They claim they fixed a hibernation problem, but because of it, I'm having hibernation problems.

On the "Find Solutions" window, it recognizes Intel Graphics Adapter as the perpetrator of the problem. I currently have 15.7, anyone else have this problem?

Dell has the same problem, you got to use the windows device manager for that.. extract the driver.. and then find your graphic card in Device manager. Upgrade drivers, and when you find it possible, use "Have a Disk" option..

Text got quite confusing, but you can find tutorials in google too, if this post won't help.

When you run the setup, it should extract to a temp folder. Or you can get the developers zip version I believe.
