do u know what the temp folder is?

You could always re-download them in zip format as intel offer.
Or even the EXE you downloaded will probably open with 7zip or many other zip file management programs (not windows explorer) -
If you are having a black or grey screen when attempting to play back flash video's in full screen mode (on sites such as youtube.com) right click the video when it's not full screen, and select settings, and disable hardware acceleration.
I'm assuming this is a driver incompatibility with the current x3100 drivers (maybe vista only) -
Thanks for the information. From what I hear, it's also an issue for ATI users, and it's only cropped up with the newest release of flash. Hopefully a new driver or a new version of flash will fix it.

Hey guys, well, a couple hours and a naps later, I finally managed to read this whole thread, and I have a few questions.
Ok, so I just ordered a refurbished XPS m1330 with these stats:
CPU: Core 2 Duo(1.5GHZ)
RAM: 2 GB
HD: 160 GB
GPU: well, owing to the thread I'm posting this in, I think you all know.....
So, I really got this laptop because of all the amazing reviews, but I didn't have enough cash to cough up for the 128mb dedicated GPU. I'm not a heavy gamer, but I would like to know if this will play lower level games. Like rts's such as: AOE 3 and BFME 2. Plus the occasional fps that isn't that high end. Such as: CS and BF2. That's all I really care about in gaming. Is this notebook up to that.
Plus, I reall don't wanna sound like a noob(though I know I will), but is it possible to upgrade from integrated video memory if you have a friend wokring at dell. I mean, can't anything that's put together be pulled apart? The whole upgrading thing is really secondary in this post the main quetsion is the paragraph above. Anybody got any answers? I'll duplicate this Q in the other X3100 post since it seems to be a tad more lively, but I figured this was a good place to put it as well.......

not for nothing, but if i buy a laptop with the x3100, and don't update it, what exactly happens....?
Is the x3100 not efficient enough without the updates? -
The X3100 will work fine without any updates, but trust me: updating a video driver is not a complicated experience. You won't mess anything up, and in case you get the urge to play some games, you'll have a better experience. Aero should work just fine without any updates if that's all you're worried about, but I really don't see any reason to not install the new driver.

Hi, Intel released a new driver for XP/XP64 today. It's version 14.32.3.4906
Here you can find the readme and the download page for XP32. Happy testing

I tried Doom3 with the new drivers; and I lost about an avg of 10 fps...
I'll reinstall the previous drivers.
Edit:
I'll reinstall the new drivers, and I'll try it again. -
-
The frame rates in Doom 3 is around 25-50% lower with the new drivers than the old drivers.
Doom3: WinXP 14.31
Doom3: Winxp 14.32.3.4906

@unreal596
In the autoexec.cfg; you have to put
seta r_skipPostProcess "1"
Otherwise the game will have much lower FPS.

Unreal596:
Did you notice improvement or lower fps with the new drivers in DirectX games? -
-
-
Intel's OpenGL support is especially terrible. Vista makes it worse, because Vista itself has bad OpenGL support. Hope at least Intel improves it. -
Disappointing driver, to say the least. Company of Heroes is still brutal when scrolling, though I'm starting to suspect it's partly the game engine too. The extended OGL support may allow Quake Wars to work on the x3100.
-
Well do what Noxxle says, run it on hardware T&L. Hardware T&L runs faster on graphically demanding situations: eg. ships in aoe 2(in XP anyway, in Vista they all suck).
Cronos77: I get what you mean by 14.31 driver. It's 14.31.1 driver, you confused me. 31 fps is 3x faster than what I get with X3000.
EDIT: Damn it. Intel's drivers are so bad. They can't seem to do anything decent other than make x86 CPUs(READ: x86). Maybe they should just stick to GMA950 core. They done okay with the X3000/X3100 but the driver development at this rate is not gonna work. How the hell do they expect to make a dedicated card?? If they are not up to ATI/Nvidia cards, their project will fail.
EDIT2: WTF!! Quake 4 Demo seems to run better on 640x480 High with everything enabled than 640x480 Low. It's like the X3000 is optimized for higher end graphics only. And the full version of Quake 4 has more options like Multi CPU option, but Demo doesn't have it. -
Well on the new drivers i noticed UT3 ran a hell of alot better now, & almost playable. about a 5-10 FPS Gain which was very shocking!! R6 Vegas i didn't see any difference at all which sucked, Also i still have HUGE Stuttering Problem in Moto GP 07 which also sucks cuz the game runs awesome @ 1280x800, did notice a boost in FPS on Cod 4 too. but really not much of an improvement, basely like 3-6 FPS Gain on most of the games i have.
-
-
Maybe its actually a good thing that it runs better on higher settings. -
I would like to compare screenshot of these gain in FPS. (screenshot with the old & new drivers)
I posted new screenshot of Doom3 (in the x3100 screenshot thread) to compare the new & the old drivers, I notice a decrease in performance of about 25 to 50%. But people must know that Doom3 is an OpenGL games. -
-
I just tried Fable with the 12.31.1 and the new drivers... and I ran Fraps to know my fps. I didn't came across any difference... Maybe, it was running a little slower with the new drivers. ( Max FPS was lower, maybe only by 2-3)
-
Also; I didn't see any difference with Need For Speed: Undeground 2.

StarScream4Ever Notebook Consultant
well does this means that the Xp-users finally gotten the driver they been waiting for? if so, then when the hell will the Vista driver come out?!

Noxxle, how can I test the scrolling issue?? I don't know what you guys mean by "scrolling issue". Do I need to set it on certain graphic settings?? Maybe I need to play longer?? I couldn't notice on the less-than-30 sec test on skirmish
.
-
Inteluser, did you upgrade to 2.101?
The scrolling issue is just a massive drop in the frame rate when you scroll the camera around the map. Any graphic settings will do. -
-
-
Anyways, I can't test it because I can't install the 1.70 to 1.71 patch. The patch installer can't find the game location because I have installed it on another drive(I have two HDDs), which is D. But I have formatted the main drive which is C. Does anyone know how to redirect the installer so it installs it on D drive?? So here's how my partitioning goes:
1x36GB drive split into:
C:
E:
1x160GB:
D:
EDIT: Hmm maybe I'll just re-install the game XD. -
check
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ (publishers name, or developer name, or game name)
check
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ (publishers name, or developer name, or game name)
check HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall
(have to look through the folders by hand unless there's an obviously named on under all the unique id's)
They are the most common places for windows installer apps to have been told to check for original install locations. -
I can recommend that X3100 users not upgrade to the 14.32.3 drivers. They suck. CSS wont even load now, and CoH performance is slightly worse.
-
-
-
But I still can't accept the CoH drop in performance. -
-
CS:S and DoD:S are running fine with the latest XP Driver in DirectX Mode 8.1. Just add "-dxlevel 81" in the launch options.
For Vista-Users Intel released a new driver version today: Ver:15.7.3 Release Notes
Orilus -
I wonder if it's any better than the previous vista driver? SHows soemthing about openGL extension. I'll have to try it.
-
I just installed the new Vista drivers. It can run ET:Quake Wars now, but the frame rate even at 640x480 with everything turned down is still horrible.
-
-
incidentally, still doesn't fix display issues with maya preview windows
-
can anyone get KOTOR2 (Knights of the Old Republic 2) to work? when I tried to run it, the game loads fine, I can set up my character, but after Star Wars intro movie, I get the following error with Vista just before actual gameplay:
I tried disable sound because Vista sound drivers are programmed very differently from XP, no go.
I tried downloading a modified Mss32.dll that's suppose to fix the Vista sound issues, no go.
so if anyone get this running on either Vista or XP, please let me know -
"I tried setting the compatibility settings to Windows XP SP2, and ran as administrator, no go."
What do you mean by this because i have a game i want to play and i saays i have to be administrator over my WIN XP?
Intel X3100 users rejoice! It's finally here! New Pre-Beta Drivers
